When they briefly worked - they were great. Most failed after 1 day and some after a few minutes. Some flickered before dying and some just stopped abruptly. I powered them first with a brand new 12VAC landscape lighting transformer (failed), then switched to 14VAC (failed), and lastly with a new 12VDC power supply (failed). All power supplies, lines and connectors were tested using my Fluke DMM and all voltages/resistance tested fine. I thought I had a bad batch, but the replacement lights that Amazon sent failed the same way. Some showed signs of LED burn, but most did not. I went with a different brand and those work just fine.

These lights showed up in my Amazon Vine feed just a few days too late for me to use them on a 150-foot retaining wall we had installed along the back edge of our yard this spring — timing I still regret. Unfortunately, the contractors glued the cap on, making it impossible to add them after the fact. That said, I've already found an equally good use for them. I'm planning to install these on a pergola in our front yard to illuminate the walkway from the front of the house, around the corner, and into the backyard. The pergola isn't built yet, but we snapped one light into our existing low-voltage system to test it, and it's going to work beautifully. The light output is just right — enough for safe walking without flooding the yard with unnecessary brightness. What I love most is the ability to rotate and aim each light independently, which means I can orient them one way along the front of the pergola and redirect them as the path turns into the side yard, keeping the light focused exactly where it's needed. The build quality is excellent. The mounting plate offers numerous hole placements for flexible installation and can be trimmed down if your application calls for it. The housing and rotation mechanism feel solid and durable despite being lightweight aluminum. The light color is warm and natural — exactly what outdoor lighting should be, in my opinion, so your home and landscaping look inviting rather than harsh. Each light comes with a generous length of wire, and the connectors are included, which is a welcome bonus since those costs add up. Note that additional wire and a transformer are required; pay close attention to transformer sizing guidelines, as getting that right matters. The included instruction booklet is clear and straightforward. As experienced DIYers, this will be an easy project for us, but I think it's approachable for newcomers as well. We'll be integrating these into an existing system, which will also require a larger transformer since we're converting some 24V fixtures to 12V at the same time. At $80 for the set when I ordered, these were a great deal. They've dropped further since — making them an even better bargain now.

These hardscape lights look really well made and seem like they would create a beautiful effect along a retaining wall, steps, or patio. The 7-inch size feels substantial and the warm 2700K light would give a nice soft glow for outdoor spaces instead of a harsh bright light. The ability to rotate the light is also a nice feature for directing the lighting where you want it. That said, these are definitely more of a true low-voltage landscape lighting install than a simple plug-and-play setup. They require a 12V low-voltage system and some wiring knowledge to install properly. As someone with little experience in landscape lighting installation, I realized pretty quickly that this was going to be beyond my DIY comfort zone. Thanks to Rufus for suggesting an affordable transformer, but I also needed to source the cable wiring and there were so many options. The installation guide provided a thorough conversion for the transformer but didn't offer any suggestions for the wiring. I didn't want to make a mistake, especially considering exposure to the outside elements. Because of that, I can’t fully speak to the installation process or long-term performance. However, the lights themselves appear sturdy, weather-resistant, and thoughtfully designed. If you already have a low-voltage landscape lighting system or are comfortable with outdoor wiring projects, these look like they could be a really nice addition to a retaining wall or stair lighting setup. For beginners like me, though, this may be a project that requires a little more planning or possibly professional installation.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, my friend who is helping me redo my back patio has started rebuilding the wall and steps. I showed her these lights and we talked about placement and I’m so excited to have them installed while rebuilding the patio. Everything needed for installation is in the box except the writing they will be connected to. They are the right brightness for illumination without overpowering. We did a test placement and they look very minimalist. I don’t mind the black color, but would probably have preferred a copper look. No big deal. The black blends in. My friend says they seem like good quality. She tested all the lights and they all work. I’m really glad she is helping me, because even though there are installation instructions, this requires some basic electrical wiring knowhow, which I don’t have. So just be aware that some wiring knowledge is needed. I think the price is great for these. I would have paid a lot more for the same thing if I purchased them from our local landscaping store.

Update - I have had 2 more lights go bad. That makes 6 or 7 out of 12. But seller did reach out and offer support. I appreciate the customer service. It must have been a bad box. Hopefully, the others last. Extremely defective lights ! I installed 7 lights, checked each light as I connected them and put them on my retaining wall. I got to #7 and then all of the sudden 3 or 4 stopped working. I tested them against a light that did work, and the light itself would not work. Update - 5 lights no longer work. Running on a 300w 12V transformer (has the ability to run 15V) but these lights are on 12v with 12/2 wiring. Bought 2 cases of 12 - and 5 are complete trash.

The first thing I noticed when I unpacked these lights is how solid and durable they feel. The aluminum housing is solid though lightweight and the rotating hinges are firm and feel like they will hold their position easily. The mounting plates are sturdy. The second thing I noticed is how versatile they are in several ways. You can screw them into railings, recess them into masonry, stonework or under the treads of stairs, mount them under eaves ... lots of possibilities. The mounting plate can be cut to three different sizes depending on your installation. They are more or less perforated to facilitate cutting them. I gently tried bending them to see if you could sort of break them apart like the perforations suggest and it seems you can do that. But to avoid distorting the mount, I'd just use snips, or at least use pliers to bend them only at the perfs. If you don't cut them, they're still very sturdy however. Another aspect of their versatility is that they run on 24v or 12v AC/DC (see note below). And another is that you can rotate these fixtures 180 to customize your lighting exactly as you want it. I haven't installed them yet but I can tell they will be very easy. I'll be using them without altering the mount, attaching them under the top horizontal railing of my deck. I am probably going to find some sort of durable weatherproof molding or such to hide the cables, just for esthetics. The wiring can also be stapled in place or attached using clips. Each light has plenty of wire so you can place them as far apart as you'd like and cut the wire to the length you need. The connectors are durable and weatherproof. The only thing you'll need to do is carefully split the double wire apart at the point where you are attaching the connector. Everything you need for installation is included. The warm color temperature of these lights is very inviting and cozy, not harsh. All in all, this is a great kit at a reasonable price. - ABOUT THE POWER SUPPLY: As the product description and instructions state, be sure that you have a transformer with enough wattage to power these lights. Each light is 3w, and a rule of thumb is that your power supply should be rated at to supply wattage equal to 1.2 times the rating of the lights. So for each of these 3 watt bulbs, you would need 3.6w. Transformers are often designated in amps, and to calculate amperage, you divide the wattage by the volts. So using a 12v supply, each of these lights requires 3 / 12 or .25 amps. If you install all 12 of these lights, you will need an adapter that can supply at least 43.2 watts or 3.6 amps. That's easy to find and not expensive.
