After using my new Ativa shredder for the first time, I have to say it's comparable in every way to the NoviTech shredder I've been using for the past 15+ years. I haven't had any problem with the unit overheating in the short time I've been using it. The collection bin doesn't hold a huge amount of shredded material, but is fine for a "personal use" shredder. The one glitch I've run into is that the shredder doesn't always shut off after shredding a document. I've had to manually move the switch to the "off" position a couple of times to stop the shredder. I haven't used the shredder enough yet to know if this is going to be an ongoing problem or not. I am deducting one star from my rating because of this. Otherwise, I'm happy with my purchase. Several months later...I've been using my Ativa shredder for nearly 4 months now. The initial problem I was having with the shredder failing to shut off automatically has thankfully not persisted. It seems to have been a temporary glitch as the unit was getting "broken in". I can now give this shredder an unconditional 5-star rating.

I recently replaced my Ativa that shred well for twenty years! So far, so good with this new one. I recommend this shredder for someone who just needs to shred personal documents to prevent privacy issues.

Tried it with 6 pages, it shredded it fine. Put in one of the pesky envelopes with credit cards inside - handled it perfectly. The only downside is you need to put it in vertically as it doesn't fit envelopes. So this does what I want it to do... and for a cheap price. It feels sturdy enough that if I were to knock into it it wouldn't fall over like my old one. And this one cost 15$ less. It's still too early to tell if it will hold up like this but if it holds up for at least a year I won't edit this to lower the stars. If it's still 5 stars, get it! EDIT: 7 months later and this thing is still kicking butt! like it's brand new still. Double EDIT: Year and a half later, still acts like its brand new. Honestly very impressed since I use it often. Triple EDIT: Moved out and left it behind. I miss it dearly, that bad boy was still doing its thing like the trooper it was. But there was no room for it, farewell you beautiful shredder. Will be buying it again once it becomes available. Some people are saying get the oil and this and that. I've never gotten any of that and it's still doing its thing.

Finally - I looked through all the options for small shredders and reviews were mixed, and I was getting discouraged. Finally I came across this one near the bottom. Not too many reviews but they were all good. And price was less than what I expected to pay, on sale. It's worth noting that this product came from Office Depot. When I looked at it on their Web site, it was $5 more than on Amazon, and I wasn't in a hurry to get it, though it came in just a couple days, probably because it was in Dallas and I'm just a few hundred miles west of there. But the point is that it works! It was simple to put together, and it works! I've given it a nice lunch of bank statements, and it works!!!!!!!!!!!

This shredder replaces a recently broken, long-used home office shredder. It fits the space perfectly and works well. I chose this model because of the fold-down handle feature and I love it!! The sleek design doesn't detract from my office decor.

As a part of downsizing, I reviewed all of my old records, i.e. Tax returns, old billing statements, and any records that were no longer needed that had a SS#, and put them thru this 6 sheet shedder. I did not find that it actually shredded 6 sheets well and reduced number to 2 or3 at a time, then 1 or 2 at a time. Even with sharpening and oil sheets used to aid progress the next sign of trouble was that the directional toggle switch would no longer function in Reverse. Then it had to be set just slightly to the left for Automatic feed to work and slightly to the right for Forward to work. The layout is Forward, Auto, Off, Reverse so the toggle needed to be balanced just right between Forward and Auto to work at all. Eventually, it just died. Luckily I had completed my task by then for anything “Critical” and could hand shred or redact any remaining documents. The adage is true, “you get what you pay for” . I threw the shredder away and the bottom basket is now a perfect size for y office trash can, so it’s not a total loss.
