If you have been using those $80 shredders, this thing will amaze you! It does one thing, and does it well. In a week, I have shredded three garden trash bags of paper, including over a dozen old cards. No jam or stopping from heat issues, yet! . I was using two old & cheap Fellowes shredders that had a 10 minute run with 60 minute rest rating. They would slow me down jamming and overheating. Then, one just failed and the other started sounding like the motor was giving out. . This Bonsaii has already done 3 times the shredding in less than half the time! I am about half way done and expect this shredder to keep going for years. . The 18 sheets warning is probably for #10 paper. I am shredding thicker stock, usually old bank statements and bills. I'd say about 10 of those sheets is the limit, but my old "8 page" units could only do about 5 of them. Pros: - It is relatively quiet. - It just keeps going. - It shreds two credit cards side-by-side. Cons: - The basket was broken just above the clear plastic window, making removal and insertion feel a bit flimsy. I went ahead and taped the break, because this thing is so much better than what I was using, and I wanted to get this shredding job done. I have started an email with Bonsaii to see if I can get a new basket. - Nothing else, really... Gripes: - I just bought this for $169.99, and 10 days later it has dropped to $142.79. Do I go to the trouble to return it and reorder it just to save $27.20 (~16%)? Maybe... I need to get this shredding done and this Bonsaii is doing it (:>) I would suggest this unit to any heavy shredder in the home and small office environment! ... show more

I have only used this once since receiving it yesterday, but I am so well pleased by its style and function, I had to add my review right away. I have a smaller version by the same brand/ company that shreds fewer pages and doesn't have wheels. It is okay, but noisier than I hoped and doubted it could manage the amount of shredding I need to tackle, semed a bit stressed after a short session of shredding and therefore I have only used it a few times. I decided to try this upgraded model. So far very pleased with my decision. The pages feed smoothly and quietly, more than any of the other shredders I have used (one my husband had that we gave away before we moved was not too noisy but was not a cross cut and it was a bit heavy and cumbersome) This is much lighter and the wheels area grat benefit. I love the pull out drawer and greater capacity it holds with the window to see as the the bin fills up. Plus I can open it to spred out the pile and push it down to keep the paper from blocking the blades and allow.it to hold more and more paper. It handled a full shopping bag of bills, documents, mail etc. in about 20 mins. Probably could have taken even less time, but I wasn't doing a full 18 pages each time. Love that I could do a variety of paper types and not have to unfold everything. If a small portion of a smaller paper didn't completely shreed it stopped and stayed where I could easily flip and feed again without jamming. There was no jamming, but I feel the reverse switch feature would handle if needed. And no smell of a motor being overly worked. This model makes this chore a breeze., almost fun even. I've been using this shredder for a couple of weeks now and it has met my expectations. My old shredder gave up the ghost a few years ago and this one has helped me turn a mountain of papers into numerous trash bags of confetti. PROS: 1) It is quieter than I expected 2) I was able to feed 6-8 pages at a time with no problems (I didn't actually try to handle more) 3) It easily handled heavy weight paper (and it even handled a few credit cards) 4) It seems to be quite a bit faster than my previous shredder 5) It isn't prone to jamming (no problems with standard staples, slick papers, etc.) 6) I used it for more than 6 hours straight before it shut down (for about 5-6 minutes) due to overheating CONS: 1) The input slot for the shredder should be redesigned to make it easier to feed the papers 2) It's a bit more expensive than the competitive models 3) Capability may be overstated because I'm not certain that it would routinely handle 18 sheets of paper 4) Container fills up pretty quickly 5) Some shredded bits always seem to end up on the floor when emptying the container. CONCLUSION: Best home shredder I've used so far. I'd give it a rating of 4.5, if Amazon had the ability to do that. ... show more

Needed a Shredder that could help me shred 50 years of our 1040 tax returns and associated file document support as well and stock transaction confirmations going back 25 years. yes, that was all stored in a closet and I'm getting old and need that stuff gone. It took 4 days of 3 hours each day running those piles of docs through the shredder while parking out which of the docs I should keep.. I highly recommend this shredder and I'm so happy my old one died forcing me to get this new one. This one handles 18 pages at a time..it really does munch through the pages.. This machine is a BEAST. I call it the mini giant. I own 3 shredders and this one works circles around the others and it was cheaper. Not once had it overheated on me and I shred boxes of docs at a time. Just wish the bin was bigger, but the motor is super strong. Highly recommended.

    • Give this Shredder Serious Consideration Before You Buy One!

Recently received my new Bonsai C149-C, 18 sheet shredder. I was looking for something that was heavy duty as my previous shredder was our first and it was a much lower capacity shredder and thermal heat-up was issue if you got into significant volumes of shredding. My old shredder would thermally overload after about 15 minutes, and at least a 30 minute wait was required before the thermal overload cleared. It took quite a bit of time to process. So, when I looked for a new shredder--one of the biggest factors for me was getting the most shredding time before thermal overload, as well as being able to handle the maximum number of sheets with a large enough receptor bin so I did not have to constantly stop the process to empty the receptor bin. The Bonsai C149-C did all that---the shredder is rated at 18 sheet load capacity depending on the thickness of paper product you are shredding--plus as in all shredders--there is a recommendation to run at about 70% of capacity for better wear and life expectancy, so that equates to about 12 sheets. Compared to my old shredder of 3 sheets maximum, that is a big jump as in at least 4 times the process volume. Additionally, I recently put the machine to the test--I had 3 phone book size (2" high) stacks of shredding material--I ran the shredder and varied the feed anywhere from just a few sheets to up to 12 sheets at a time and the unit continued to shred thorough all that material for a period of just about up to an hour--without issue. With a 6 gallon bin, emptying was reduced and the cross-cut shredding actually allowed for even more volume to be accumulated within the bin before emptying was required. The unit appears to be quite heavy duty and comes with casters to make it easy to pull out closer to your work area and simple to return to a storage area. Using the unit is simple and emptying the bid is also simple. As I have only had this unit for a matter of weeks, I cannot quite report on long term durability however, judging from the heavy duty look of the unit, I am hopeful that it will bring many years of good dependable service with ease. At this point, I would highly recommend this unit. I will continue to use the unit and provide updated reviews as time progresses. One more note, the unit was manufactured in China, with a USA subsidary and I did have some questions so I communicated with Bonsaii via email. That experience was a complete joy--Their response was within 24 hours, detailed, polite and very accommodating. They are quality and customer oriented. All these considerations, led me the conclusion that a 5 star rating was warranted. ... show more
