Oh my word, how did I ever live without this! It seems accurate (... I don't have lab eqpt to acutally test, but values and variance between changes in load suggest to me it is). It is SOOOOO much easier to use than other systems I've used (shoot over, shoot through, magento thingie....). Set it on the table, turn it on, BOOM - fire rifle. Put it on a tripod and shoot a pistol over it and it's good there too. It misses very few shots (unlike other chono systems...) and has only missed when I don't get it pointed down-range well. I can't say how it does with someone right next to you, but I shot the other day down a 30yd range with someone about 10-12 feet to my right and it got my shots but not his - nice! It does a good job storing data and it's easy to retrieve them. I have not pushed the battery with a marathon session, but I've taken it to the range about 6-8 times for 2-5hr each time (NOT full running time - I turn it off to reset targets, reload mags, etc.) Until I figured out the phone thing, I was then copying down data for 20-30 min each of those range sessions. After all that, battery still says 75%. These "little" uses are easier on batteries, for sure, so it might drain faster if used hard for hours straight... but I have confidence if I topped it off, it'd run solid for as long as I'd shoot in any given day! One thing I did not see when I bought it was that if you get the app for your phone, you can EASILY download and view on phone. That makes it so much easier to record info back at home - it syncs in like 1-2 sec, and I can scroll up and down looking over data, giving names to strings of shots, seeing graphs, etc. You can even export it on your phone as a spreadsheet and I guess you could put it in the cloud and grab to your PC if you want... I don't bother. The app actually does far more than sync and download data though... it's a nice little ballistics calculator that lets you use the data, your REAL velocity data, to calculate sighting adjustments. For instance, I can put in details about my Ruger M77 - barrel length, twist, etc. Then add a load, say a 55grHornady FMJ (putting in details about bullet, like ballistic coeff, etc) over XXXgr of XXX powder. Add a few more details like zero point and then link the velocities from the range ... now you have a rifle - bullet pair you can use. You can put in multiple rifles each with multiple loads. Then you can select a rifle + bullet, and then add conditions, such as temp, wind, angle to target, etc .... and it will not only give a ballistic table, it will show hold-over. To take it a step further, it gives visuals as it would appear ON YOUR SCOPE if you have an athlon scope (... which I do happen to have...). If you don't have Athlon scope, it still gives you MOA/MIL (or you can pick one similar to your scope) so no problem. End result is, I see exactly where to hold on the reticle ON the actual target (you can pick from targets like a deer, a coyote, prairie dog, bullseye etc.) given set conditions with set rifle-load combo at a given range. So yeah, it's an awesome tool by itself BUT this shooting 'ecosystem' you can get/use with the FREE app makes it so much more usefui (and fun to tinker with...) than I ever expected. SUCH a cool system! If it sounds like I'm a paid advertisement - it's not!! I bought it, without a discount, on my own. I just love this thing THAT much. Yeah, it's expensive, but it is SOOOOO nice, so easy to use. It saves me time, makes my life better when shooting, and makes me a little bit happier when I'm at the range! ... if only everything did that! Negatives? Well, with the unit, none really. It was easy to figure out, easy to operate, does a great job, seamlessly fits into my shooting sessions... it's great. THe app has great features, but isn't particularly smooth, though. It took a couple tries to get it paired to my phone. It tried to replace/remove my car as a Bluetooth device (???!), then for a while it self-identified as a Ford Mustang ... whatever floats your boat these days, I guess. It works fine whatever it thinks it is. It's not the most intuitive to add rifles, loads, etc, though once you figure out the quirks it is very usable. I did have an issue when i did a firmware update where it messed up dates (even though date was set correctly in the unit) and as a result was not syncing data. I deleted all shot data in the device (but NOT rifles and bullets/loads as mentioned above) and it's worked fine since. I guess when I update firmware I'll just plan to delete/clear out the shot registers. Fortunately it has not forced firmware updates - i have to go in and ask it to check. I like that :)

I received the chronograph two days ago. It was nearly packaged by the manufacturer and came with a charged battery. Out of the box, all I needed to do was set the date and time and the date/time formats of my choice. The provided tripod is sturdy and weighted to hold the chronograph in steadily in place. I took the chronograph to the range today to checkout a percussion revolvers I had accurized. The chronograph registered all 48 test shots quickly and without error. It was easy to set up and to read the screen. I loved having the chronograph on the bench next to me instead of out in front of the firing line. With it next to me, there was no risk of accidentally shooting it, and I didn’t have to wait for a ceasefire to adjust it. I had previously considered buying a Labradar (too big and expensive) and a Garmin ($100 more and slower). I am glad that I went with the Athlon.

Very impressed with how easy this is to use. Just charge it up using a USB cable, set it down next to the muzzle of your firearm (about 4-10" away) with the screen facing you, and start shooting. Never missed a shot. And now I have an accurate average velocity for each of my rifles with their preferred ammo which I can use for more accurate DOPE cards. And this thing is super compact. The mini-tripod legs detach from the actual unit, and both fit into a small, durable zipper case. I haven't even tried to use the app and bluetooth connectivity yet, but even without any of that, this thing is awesome. Glad I bought this one instead of one of the other more expensive brands. I can't imagine how they'd be any better.

I was a bit hesitant to spend this money on this item, however pleasantly surprised at the performance, ease of use, and battery life. Other models have batteries that do not last near as long as this chronograph. Carrying case offers significant protection. Clear display with much more data than just velocity. Would highly recommend this item for long distance shooters as well as hunters! Rugged and durable design.

After a year of use, I’m very pleased. Have had very few missed readings and no surprises with the data recorded. The speed of readings is impressive, way faster than the Garmin models (I’ve had a friends Garmin and this Athlon side by side and the difference in reading time is significant). I’ve even forgotten I was recording a time or two and fired rapid strings, with nearly all shots recorded. Also very forgiving in read distance. I sit it on the bench at the range and fire a handgun or rifle standing - so way further away than instructed- and it still picks up the shots. Even no issues with picking up tiny and fast 17HMR. easy integration with the Athlon app on my iPhone as well. Battery life is great…after about 2-3 hrs use time it still has over 50% battery left. It’s been well worth the investment since all my DOPE cards are accurate and hand loads are easily evaluated and adjusted. Recommended.

I shoot 22LR competition. I wanted a chrono to help sort out some issues. After seeing the slow speed of the Garmin compared to the Athlon, I was convinced this was the one for me. And it works really well. I get quick and reliable readings to help adjust my shots. As for the Chrono. I can take it out and the battery will last all day at the range provided you don't leave the backlight on constantly. The tripod is solid even on a windy day. Setting up a session is pretty straight forward on the unit. The screen offers a decent size. The different data points are selectable and well thought out. For the price, it's a really nice unit. With regard to the accompanying app. One of the reasons for choosing this over something cheaper like a Caldwell was data management. I was looking forward to the App to help with data management. But the app... seriously it is terrible. despite going through so many steps to label sessions with very specific details and profiles, everything just gets thrown into a pile. It will save sessions. But if you are looking for a specific session, you had better write down the time of the session because later, despite creating profiles and everything about the bullets, it won't sort a thing. I think the sort button is just there to entertain someone. So, just be aware of that limitation. The only really good thing about the app is that it will export in reasonably good detail, once you find your session. It does have a ballistics calculator. But I found if you are not using Athlon friendly optics, you results may vary... a lot. Would I buy it again? Yes. But Athlon really needs to pay some high school kid to do a better job with the app. It's amateur hour.
