    • Great monitor for gaming
There are a few reports of dead pixels and defective units, but I'm happy to say the monitor I received a couple days ago was in perfect condition. The screen is perfect- it's wide, far wider than my last screen, and I'm running it at a resolution of 1980x1080. I'm a gamer (what I'd consider a "Hardcore" gamer, in that I'm very specific about building my own computer and picking the proper hardware), and was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a monitor that would fit my needs. This one fits them perfectly. It's sleek and stylish, with glossy surfaces (which are good and bad, as they can scratch rather easily if you aren't careful) and some buttons that I'm too scared to press because I don't know what they do. This monitor also has speakers, but as I play with a pair of fancy turtle beach headphones, I don't see a need to use it. I have heard (from other reviewers) that the built-in speakers are pretty much worthless, so if I were you I wouldn't buy this thing because you read it had speakers. Again, I can't offer my personal opinion on them because I have not (and do not plan to) used them yet. Now that I've gotten all the good out of the way, I'll move on to the bad things, which are very few in number. I have only two major complaints. First, you can't raise or lower the screen. This, for me, is a rather big deal. You can tilt it, but only a little. Due to the fact that this thing has a poor viewing angle, it can be difficult to find a good spot on your desk for this without some space adjustments (my desk is a mess, so perhaps I can't pin my messy habits on the screen). The inability to raise or lower the screen brings me to my second complain, which is that the HDMI port (and, from what I've seen, all the other ports) is underneath the screen. The monitors I've had in the past did the same thing, but they were on the BACK of the monitor, raised up, so that there was more room for your cords. This is not the case with this monitor. As I have not had many newer monitors in the past, I do not know if this is considered the norm or not. If you have a thick HDMI (or other cables) cable, good luck getting it to stay safely and securely plugged in without bending or breaking the pins. Oh, and as an afterthought, that instruction manual (if you can call it that) is totally worthless- it makes no sense. This might be an ASUS thing though, so again perhaps I can't complain about it in this one specific case (I've only had one other ASUS product before, my motherboard, and the handbook for that was very well done) All in all, this is a great monitor, and I would recommend it to anyone whose monitor budget is around 150 bucks- I don't think you can find many better options than this. To summarize my points.. Pros -Nice features, although the manual is absolutely worthless in teaching you how to use them. -Sleek, modern look. -Speakers. Although I haven't used them, I know most monitors I've had in the past don't have built-in speakers. -Beautiful resolution, very high definition indeed. -Easy to setup- in my case, I didn't find it necessary to fiddle with any menus or options, I just plugged it in right away and it worked perfectly with my brand new video card. Cons -Easy to scuff the monitor's surfaces. -Cable ports on the far bottom of the monitor, resulting in potential bending of important cords or pins unless you elevate the monitor on something like a stack of books (I'm too paranoid to raise my monitor more than needed) -Can't raise or lower the monitor, only tilt. -Awful instruction manual. ... show more

FOR THOSE REVIEWS WITH DEAD/MALFUNCTIONING PIXELS: Sorry people, I've seen you're pictures and is well within ISO 13406-2 guidelines for Class II LCDs of "four dead pixels and ten dead sub-pixels would be within tolerances". Asus specifically, has a 'zero dead pixel' policy -that is all three sub-pixels, but allows up to 5 dead sub-pixels. So, if you have a green dot in the center of the screen that means there's two dead sub-pixels.. it sucks that you got one of these, but what else can I say -all manufactures are like this on Class II devices. You want a guarantee, pay more for a Class I and find the manufacture that has a zero-defect policy. MY EXPERIENCES: I put this TV through a lot of use. Primarily, my laptop's second montior. Each of the ports has been used in a variety of scenarios as I tried to find a configuration that worked the best for me. The default colors are very bright (florescent even) including the blacks which tended to wash out the entire screen. It's very noticeable when trying to use in MS Office applications or when readig any other text document. It was absolutely horrible on my eyes drying to read PDFs. And because of this, regardless of how I adjusted brightness / contrast I just couldn't use it for its intended purpose and give me a second monitor for my school work. Images worked splendidly, videos as long as the background was not white. I FOUND A FIX: After 18 months I finally found a graphics card setting that fixed the washed out colors. This HOWTO describes the Intel Graphics card (Nvidia/Asus will be similar however). make sure to reset the color preferences on the TV itself first. Then, go to your graphics properties (typically right-click desktop -> graphics properties). Your card's control panel should appear. Click "Display", click "Color Settings" and then select your display in the drop-down menu. Down at the bottom under "Color Enhancement" set GAMMA all the way to the left for "All Colors". The settings I found acceptable for black text on white background are: Brightness = 0, Contrast = 40, Gamma = 0.4 --Next click the "Advanced" tab and Make sure that YCMC is enabled (or something like that). Have a text document open on the TV to find the values that suit your preferences. Audio is pretty decent too. The caveat is that my laptop automatically switches audio output to the TV when I use the HDMI port. Its secondary role, as PS4 TV, I have no words to express how awesome my experience with this TV is. I've used a 48" and 54" TV and this TV outperforms in every way. First, it allows me to play guilt-free without hogging the TV (which I'm sure my wife really appreciates). Second, its response time is really good. Input lag seems down considerably too. And TBH I play FPS much better, so much so that my Kill Death ratio increased even playing objectives. I used to average ~0.8, but now I'm averaging 4 per match. Maybe its because I can focus better sitting 16" - 18" away from the monitor, maybe more crappy players are online than before? I can certainly tell when there's better players on the other side, but at any rate I used to be able to tell how crappy the my team was depending on my position on the board.
