ASUS RT-AX3000S AiMesh Home Network - Excellent Product

I purchased three of these ASUS RT-AX3000S Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Routers to set up an AiMesh network in a family member's home. Setting up the first was very easy, just creating a new SSID (network name), username and password, then connecting to it with my Windows 11 PC. Next day I set up the second, connecting it via the on-line web app without problem and then connecting several devices in the house, including several TV, an iPhone, a second Windows (10) PC, and an HP printer, all without issue. Since the house is fairly large I have the primary router in the basement next to the Network modem/router, and moved the second one almost directly above it on the first floor living space. Given the overall length of the ranch style house I want to increase the WiFi signal better by adding a third RT-AX3000S router, which is on order. Hardware installation, firmware upgrade (recommended by the manufacturer) and connecting devices all went very smoothly and with minimal input from me. Since the old hardware was 7-8 years old we've seen a dramatic increase of network speed from a slow of 15-30 Megabits/second (yes, that's correct) to an average of 100, with some devices hitting over 150 Mbps. The home's current Internet modem only delivers 300Mbps max, so this is an incredible difference. I expect to replace that modem in the next few weeks when time and availability occur, and get closer to the 600Mbps speed she's paying for monthly. That old modem (July 2019) and 2 Network Extenders were the bottlenecks. The two ASUS RT-AX3000S routers cost $80/each on Amazon and, couple with the easy problem free installation and setup is a no-brainer way for improving any home network. The ASUS devices are well built and well programmed, handling everything almost by themselves with minimal input from the user. I'd added an ASUS Zen-Wifi to my own home several years ago and will continue to purchase and recommend ASUS to anyone. An excellent product. ... show more

Great Range and VPN Support

I love this router! The main reason I bought it was the ability to run a VPN directly on the router, so I do not have to install a VPN app on every device. The range is great too. Very happy with my purchase!

More Than Adequate for Most Users

I had a Netgear AC 1750 Wi-Fi 5 router for the past few years, and it was time to upgrade. I don’t have a need for Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7, so Wi-Fi 6 met my requirements perfectly. The provider was replacing my outdated modem, so it was an opportune time to replace the router as well, as I prefer separate pieces of equipment instead of a combined modem and router unit. I just had to make sure that the modem was set up to operate the router in bridge mode so that there is no conflict. The setup was fairly straightforward. I did encounter some connectivity issues, slow data rates and a need to frequently re-boot after installation. However, this was unrelated to the router and had to do something with the way the technician originally set up the modem. The provider sent another technician, who fairly easily identified the issue, and everything was working fine after that. You don’t realize how many items are connected until you look at the app, and while we have anywhere between 12 - 15 items connected at a given time, not all of them are in use at one time, and none of them require heavy data consumption. Most of our use is related to TV, phone, computer and some light gaming. Router refuses to stay online

Router worked fine until a firmware update was released for it a few months ago. The router itself stays up, but it loses connectivity over the WAN port at random times, so internet access is lost. Doing a scheduled reboot sometimes keeps the problem away, but other times it goes down several times a day. The issue as far as I can tell appears to be a problem with the Mediatek driver getting hung up and timing out. Stay away from this model. ... show more

I have xfinity. I use to use their rent to use modem/router. But I was not getting NEARLY the speeds I was paying for (1gb). Upgraded to a modem and this router and my speeds are just about what I pay for. Also I get fantastic signal strength through all three levels of my house. Solid device but the app always has trouble connecting to the device. App needs a lot of work, but this router really expands the signal to my 1000 sq ft 2 bed 2 bath apartment. Highly recommend
