Nice Router
I had to upgrade my old router, and this is a good choice. So far, it's been a beast, with all the devices that are connected to it, usually 25-30 devices. I went with it because it also supports 6E for wireless, and it shows when cellphones are connected to it. This should be able to go right up to Wi-Fi-7 & 6G network, from the current 5G, which so far isn't planned til 2030. I noticed a difference in the speed on my phone. It was easy to set up as well. It's a bit pricey, however, I figured it should last us for the next 5 years at least. ... show more

Hot trash. Dumpster fire. Defective by design.
TL;DR: Two 10G ports does not 10G throughput make. The details: So, you finally, after years, get the call that 10Gbit fiber is going in and they'll be by next week to install it. And then they do! Yay! But obviously you need a better router-- that old router doesn't even have 10Gbit ports on it and you need not one, but two, right? One to plug into fiber, and one to plug into your house's 10Gbit switch (that you just bought because the fiber dude is coming, yay!) This thing is not that. I mean, yes, it has two 10000baseT ports. It doesn't need annoying SFP+ adapters, so you're not ponying up another $20 a port. But the usefulness ends there. You will, no matter what, never ever ever get 10Gbit routed across this device. It's physically not possible because Asus underspecced the CPU/SoC. If you turn off all the features and tweak a bunch of settings AND you overwrite the firmware with asuswrt-merlin, you still won't get close. On a good day, going downhill, with a tailwind, it can manage to talk 4.5Gbit/s to the fiber port. Everyone on this side of the router is going to be lucky to get 3. It tends to be more like 2. Because the router simply doesn't have beefy enough hardware to do it. Asus routers rely on something called NAT Acceleration, which is a feature of the SoC chip they use. And, well... other than the different ports, this is actually the same guts as their 2.5Gbit ("multi-gig") router. They didn't actually upgrade the hardware enough to get 10Gbit on both sides. They didn't even manage to get a third of that. This thing is hot trash if you, y'know, want to use the 10G ports as 10G ports. If you still have a slow ISP and you just want a new router, well, this thing's way more expensive than the same thing without the 10000bT ports. You might as well just get something cheaper that is the same guts with just the ports you need. In fact, the RT-BE88 appears to be -- for a hundred bucks cheaper -- Asus's only router that actually can do 10Gbit (which in the real world translates to about 8.5). I really like Asus, the AiMesh works great to cover more of the house and has support for ethernet backhaul. With asuswrt-merlin, you can add tons of great features like proper reactive firewalls based on ipsets, or better guest networks, or ad-blocking, or DNS resolving and caching, or... you get the picture. Asus makes hardware that does this stuff easily. Usually. But the AX16000? Nooooope. You have to disable all of that just to get bad speeds. They're even worse (believe it or not!) if you actually run software on it. I've been pleased with every Asus router I've bought for years. Every time I get a new one, I just keep the old one and add it to the AiMesh. This one, though? I'm not keeping it. The underlying design is inappropriate for what I need: an actual 10Gbit router. Semi-upsides: the tri-band thing seems to work just fine. I only have one device that cares about the 6GHz band but it works fine. The other... 20+ devices all only care about conventional bands and they have no trouble with signal stability or connection speed. In fact, I've seen it where I sit next to the other router upstairs and I wind up connecting to this one downstairs. Once you tweak the "Professional" wifi tab, it works well. It's just that, y'know, wifi isn't that big a deal to me. I have several wired devices that can and absolutely will use the full 10Gbit of my fiber... once I get a better router. ... show more

Fast Router. Very powerful!
This router is amazing. It replaced my TP-Link AX5400 WiFi 6E router which was constantly giving me problems with internet shutting off and making my ping really high but it held up until I got this router. This router lowered my ping a lot actually. I went from 80-90 ping to 30-35 ping just because of this router. I absolutely love it. If you want a router that is good for gaming this router is perfect for the job! ... show more
