  • Going on 4 years & still works like a champ. NO install issues with Xfinity either.
I bought this S33 modem in January of 2022 (today is June 26, 2025) and the thing has worked like a champ. Never did one problem occur. It was also easy peasy to set up with Xfinity. I use it exclusively wireless (I have the 1.3 gig speed from Xfinity) along with two Amplifi Alien routers (one is used as a mesh point) and I get great speeds and have around 35 wireless devices on my network (the Aliens are 1 Gb only but can speeds over that if I plug in my Macbook Air M2. But again, not one problem with the S33 and zero problems with Xfinity to get it working. I would buy a new S34 if something ever did happen to the S33 but the S33 meets all my household requirements. ... show more

  • Work great and holds fast speeds with MEDIACOM
One of the better modems on the market. Even my IT department recommends these and they typically work with any ISP. I have Mediacom and was tired of paying an extra $15 a month renting their outdated and refurbished old hardware. Got this and crash and stutter WAY less... and save money on my monthly bill. Highly recommended and works great with mesh networks like Eero. THIS IS NOT A ROUTER. So you will need a separate router or mesh network to broadcast your Wifi signal. ... show more

  • A very fast, and so far reliable modem
I should start out by stating that I am an IT professional, and have been in the industry for 24 years. I have a family of 6, all of whom are doing school remotely in this COVID world, and I've worked from home for the better part of the last 8 years, so home Internet is my livelihood. I also have one gamer in the family who tests bandwidth and connectivity to its limits for me. We moved (in town) November of 2020, so I have been on a Netgear C7100V for the past 5 months. Which, granted was its own Wifi router (2-in-1) and had a smaller price point, AND was an older model than the Arris S33. For the last 45 or so days, while on the old Netgear, my Xfinity connection had been dropping periodically. Turns out the Netgear C7100V was recently removed from the compatibility list. I figured I better buy a new modem that was on the list before I call Comcast and complain because the first thing they're going to say to me is go buy another modem before they'll support my problem. Buddy of mine in IT had the Arris S33 Surfboard, and raved about it, so I thought I'd give it a try. And because my old Netgear was a modem/router combo, I had to purchase routers too, so for context, I should disclose that I also upgraded to an Eero 6 pro 3-pack tri-band mesh wifi6 router system too. BUT, I can say unequivocally, that I never got anywhere close to the 1Gbps speeds I was paying for with the Netgear C7100V. 600mbps, tops, which is a bandwidth limitation of that device that I lived with and dealt with because no one ever got 600mbps TO the modem over wifi anyway, so the bottleneck was before the Internet egress before anyway, and still is, and probably always will be with wifi, but I digress. But with this Arris S33 Surfboard modem, I get a consistent, all day, everyday, 900+mbps of my 1gbps service. And, so far, no drops in service either since installing the Arris (fingers crossed it's only been 3 days). But even if I do, this review is still relevant because if I continue to experience drops even after the new modem and router, pretty sure it's the service provider at that point anyway. It's smaller, easy to use, quick simple setup, and if you have the Xfinity app on your phone there's no need to even call Comcast. You don't need to be an IT pro either. It took, like 20 minutes to setup, using the included quick setup guide, and it's been "set it and forget it" ever since (again, so far). I'll come back and revise this review if that changes, but I have no complaints. ... show more

  • Arris S33 0 durability
Was wonderful in the start. We have Xfinity 1Gb speed plan and I wanted to take full advantage since I work from home and like to game. Worked super well with the 6E Eero's I got. It's barely a year old and it has failed. Overheating and intermittent connections were the start. Then it started to constantly just shut down. For $200 I expected this to be much better and have more durability as well as better support. Arris support has been useless thus far even though I am under a warranty with them. Don't waste your money on this. I wish there were better alternatives for cable modems like their are fiber, but sadly that is not the case. I bought an S34 since I needed something fast and so far it is okay, but I am not hopeful. Avoid if you can and sadly I don't know a better alternative at the moment. ... show more

  • A good modem with possible limitations
*The modem delivers high speeds for a good price point. It does as advertised. *It is very compact and much smaller than I would have imagined. *The setup was easy. No issues. The app is not the greatest. It feels laggy most of the time, no matter the phones signal. *My main concern was the connectivity access to the internet when using "both" the 2.5 gb port & the 1 gb port at the same time. For me it was a deal breaker. I want my main work station to have a direct ethernet connection to my modem while extending the internet via a wifi router throughout my home. I currently have Xfinity and after some research I would need another IP address to gain access to both ports. My solution for me was to find a modem with a built in router. I hope more people are aware of that issue. As I am not sure other internet providers are similar to Xfinity? Yet it's information that should be shared. Lastly I cannot rate the fault of the modem if it's a service provider issue (feature). If it's an industry standard than Arris needs to advertise on their product you cannot receive service via both ports simultaneously. ... show more
