  • so far so good

As it often happens, I've ordered this plow after the heavy snowfall, and there wasn't another one, so I haven't got a chance yet to try it in proper action. But I've had piles of snow still sitting around next to the driveway, so I've set to moving them farther onto the grass. It took me some time to learn how to do things right, but on the second attempt it was eventually a success. And when I've got the tractor stuck and had to do some manual shoveling, I've discovered that the snow was very dense and heavy, I could not even throw a shovelful of it, so I've got pretty impressed with the blade. So, how to do it: The instruction says to set the spring for the automatic release of the blade for the weakest position, and then tighten when needed. Well, it's always needs to be tightened, the weakest position is way too weak. Tighten it to the half-way position right away. Then, to move the heavy snow, tilt the blade to the left (or right, mirroring), accelerate and break off a chunk with the right edge of the blade. Then back off, shift to the left, and drive this chunk away. With the higher pile, sometimes you need to break off the chunk with a partially-raised blade, to avoid grabbing too much. The blade slides well over even the bumpy the grass without digging in. The instruction says to remove the mower deck when plowing, and I now know why: not only it's sticking out to the side, but this sticking-out part also rides over the compressed snow, lifting the rear tire, and making the tractor stuck. But if you take care to avoid doing that, then the deck doesn't get too much in the way, and there seem to be no structural reasons. The blade also worked well on the compost but not to scrape the unevenness on the grass, the whole package just either gets stuck or the blade flips on the spring when trying to straighten the grass. The rubber cover on the blade lifting handle doesn't stay put, needs to be glued. But the handle feels too short anyway: it's OK if you just lift or lower the blade once in a while, but not convenient for adjusting the blade to an intermediate position. I plan to extend it with another tube. Packaging: not very good, the bag with the small parts got broken, and the parts spread around the box. Fortunately, only one pin got lost. Installation: Fit well on my Craftsman 247-series garden tractor. The instruction is easy to follow, but the instruction gets the assembly order backwards: it's much easier to start with placing the mount on the tractor and then adding other parts piecemeal onto it than to lift the whole assembled blade onto the tractor. Unfortunately, once you place the mount on the tractor, there is no easy way to put the bumper back on, other than by unbolting and bolting again. I wish the bumper had the same quick-mount system as the blade. ... show more

  • Quality MTD plow blade

I purchased this plow for my Cub Cadet LT1042 19hp Briggs repower 3 years ago and it has been awesome. I had no trouble assembling it and actually enjoyed it because of the simplicity, and plus, knowing that my shoveling days were over...I couldnt wait to try it out. For 3 years it has been great at pushing snow. Powder and heavy wet stuff...as long as you have enough power and traction, and it doesn't have a bit of rust. I do keep it garaged and coat it with WD-40 after each season as a preventative measure against corrosion. I also purchased this with a set of rop shop tire chains and tensioner springs. I don't currently run any weight on the rear, because my property is pretty flat, but I should for extra traction. I recommend tire chains, wheel weights or some kind of weight as well though, especially if you have a graded property so you can get the most out of it. The only con is that you have to get off your tractor each time you want to change the angle on the blade to manually pull the angle lever and push the blade to the left or right because it lacks the cable/trigger assembly that some other similar snow blades have on the drop lever handle. I've got some cable and some ideas to remedy that little inconvenience, but that is really the only con for me, and it's not really a con because that doesn't affect the operation of the blade, the angles lock in tight, and the blade spring works perfectly if you run into a solid obstacle or uneven terrain. People complaining about the poor instructions were not wrong, but c'mon...as long as you have an exploded parts view figure it should make enough sense that you don't need step by step instructions. It's an MTD product so if you purchased it for your MTD product it should fit. Even if you don't have the right mounting holes on the front of your frame, a little creativity, angle iron and welding could fix that problem 😁. ... show more

  • Works great on my 2019 Troy-bilt Bronco lawn tractor.

I have had mine for 3 years now. Installation was straight forward after assembly. We get mainly very heavy, wet snow here in central Ohio, so even my gas snowblower can bog down and get a clogged discharge chute with the really wet heavy snow. Use is simple, but I have learned to go slowly on sidewalks due to the uneven surface you get between sections and with soil heaving. I wish there was a better option for turning the angle of the blade except stopping the tractor, getting off of it, manually turning the angle and then getting back on the tractor and taking off again. I do not use the skid shoes, so that I can get right down to the surface and not leave any snow that will freeze into ice after a couple of melt/freeze/thaw days. The blade setup itself is fine other than the blade angle process. I am very glad I bought this setup. Well worth the money for me. ... show more
