Wanted to love these. Seriously. I have been on the hunt for this style of barstool, but all of the ones I found that I actually liked were at least $300 a PIECE...until I found these bad boys. Was so excited for them to be delivered. Got them out of the box and everything was going smoothly. Assembly is super easy, no extra tools necessary. That’s where things started going downhill. Fast. I flipped the chair up onto its feet and it was EXTREMELY wobbly. I’m not sure if one of the legs isn’t the right length or what’s going on but I tried reattaching the legs in a different way and it didn’t help. I put a magazine under one of the legs to make it sturdy, and then sat down. And it got worse. I am an average sized human being. 140 pounds. And I was honestly afraid to put my entire weight on this chair. It just seemed so flimsy and unable to support my weight. I’m so sad because aesthetically, these are exactly what I was looking for. I guess that’s what I get for buying the $90 stools instead of the $300 ones. They’re sadly going back. Side note: the leather on these is BROWN. It says it flat out in the description, but I clearly didn’t read it. Just by looking at the pictures in the reviews, I thought the leather was black, which is what I wanted. Definitely my fault, but wanted anyone else considering to be aware. Don’t be ignorant like me :) ... show more

Please take all of the reviews you see for this product with a grain of salt, Armen is offering a $5 Starbucks giftcard for reviews. With that said my first impressions of this stool are that it's solid, not spectactular. It looks fantastic, mostly as pictured and that's great. You'll notice if you order the cream, as I did, that the color you receive is actually a cream and not white as some of the stock photos show. I've included photos for reference of the color in two different lights. I was hoping this was the case so that was a huge plus for me. If you're going for the mid century look on a budget I don't know if you'll find any that are more aesthetic for the price, $86 at the time of this review. They are also pretty comfortable out of the box, though it remains to be seen if that will stand up to semi-regular use. The negatives are apparent if you've received your stools or read some of the other honest reviews. First, one of my parts did arrive somewhat damaged. There was about a 8 inch gouge out of the wood on one of the stool legs. Fortunately it was on the interior of the leg and it will be kept under the counter so it is not noticeable at all. Armen does offer a phone number and email for replacement parts however I decided the hassle to not be worth it for such minor cosmetic damage. The option is out there though if reading the reviews of damaged parts has made you skeptical. Putting the stools together require a bit of trial and error. If you follow the instructions exactly you should get most of the way there, however if you want the stools to be sturdy you'll need to manuever a bit. Once together, the final product will likely be sturdy and sufficient enough for a person of an average build. At 5'9" 160 lb, I can say the stools are proportioned well for me and hold my weight. There is a bit of "give" when you sit down even with everything tightened properly as you will note in other reviews. I can say if I was approaching or over the 200 lb mark I would be cautious as the build quality isn't the greatest. Overall I would say this is a sold buy for anybody wanting the MCM look without spending a ton. Think IKEA furniture quality with more of an upscale look. ... show more

Theses Armen Chairs Are Amazing! They fit our kitchen counter tops perfectly! We purchased the Gray seat faux leather cushion with the darker wood. The chairs came seperately And disassembled. They were easy to assemble with clear Directions. One of the chairs was missing the hardware but we called the manufacture and they sent it right out to us. The chairs are light and easy to slide out from under the counter! We recommend it! ... show more

    • A nice style, but not that sturdy

I read the reviews before buying this, and some reviews said sturdy and some said wobbly. I couldn’t find any other bar stools that had a mid century look, low back, and could be pushed all the way in, so I went out in a limb and purchased two. My husband who is good at building furniture put them together. Well, one was wobbly and one sat firmly on the ground. So I think the problem is that they aren’t consistent on the manufacturing end. I put an extra felt pad on the shortest leg of the wobbly stool, and it’s good enough now, but both stools still don’t feel totally sturdy. People over 200 pounds may not feel comfortable on these things. I’m using them for my kids, and they’ll do the trick for their little frames. They look pretty good, although the faux leather needs to be wiped down after greasy little kid hands or spills. ... show more

The caveat to my review: I am very frugal and a minimalist. My purchases are well thought out and become almost painful. I had been pursuing these stools for a few months, always out of stock across numerous merchants. I was excited to find them on Amazon. So, these stools are very simple. Low profile. Modern. Comfortable. Solid. Easy to move around, it's not scraping the floor, it almost glides. They do not swivel, which is great if you want to avoid smashing your counter. Much wider than I expected, hopefully we don't grow to need that space. In case anyone is wondering, the leather padded sections can be unscrewed. This is important if anyone plans to re-cover them. We have cats and they're jerks, so we'll probably go that route in the future. They will all need to be adjusted after a bit. That's just a part of life I think. ... show more
