if you’re looking for something that works & cheap, this is for you. keep in mind, you get what you pay for. the switch box isn’t water proof so keep that in mind. to switch modes, press power button & it’ll cycle through. it will not stay on your preferred mode if using a timer, you’ll have to do it manually every time. the sliding brackets used to keep the light in play are sturdy, however there’s no bumper to keep them from coming out so keep this in mind as well. i applied about 5-10lbs of pressure on it, no bending, didn’t move so it works for me. i’m sure there’s better lights out there, but you’re just like me, looking for a deal due to whatever, this is actually worth the cheap price. all the other reviewers talk about how it doesn’t last more than a year, which is kinda expected with this price. i’m using this as a place holder until i can afford to upgrade my equipment so i’m ok with it lasting 6 months or whatever. if it broken any earlier i’ll return to this review & make it the title ... show more

    • Good cheap light, but not very comparable with timers

The light is nice, works as advertised and is plenty bright. My plants agree this is a nice light too, provides enough light for ample growth. Not the greatest light you’ll ever get, but for this price, that’s not a complaint. My big issue is it’s (somewhat) incompatibility with timers. Once this light loses power (not turned off, but when the electricity is cut off by the timer) it will not retain it’s settings and will default to the full spectrum half light. Not an issue if that’s preferred, but if you prefer white light only or all lights on and use a timer, you will have to manually change it every time it comes back on. Not a huge issue for me, my fish and plants don’t seem to mind, but the full spectrum coloring looks a bit odd so it can be annoying at times. But hey, you get what you pay for. ... show more

Aquarium lights have come a long way since hoods with incandescent tubes. And remember genuine fiberglass filter floss? Right, your secret's safe with me. Anyway, this light is nice and bright. So bright the fish go into hiding whenever I turn it on. So that would be my only complaint. My fish don't like it. They think the Earth is falling into the sun. ... show more

Es muy bonita tiene tres tipos de matices de luz, desde que la compre hace unos dos meses más o menos mis plantas an crecido el doble de su tamaño. Un tip, si te interesa , en vez de compras una luz larga cómprate dos pequeñas de 9$ las pones las dos en la pecera y hacen el trabajo de una de 40 😄 no se si me saldrá peor el recibo de la Luz pero a mi me funciona. ... show more

The reason I didn't give it 5 is that from what I can see, when the light goes out, you have to throw the whole unit away. That means the cord, plug, everything. Unless I'm missing something about it. But it's very bright and expands easily. I have it on a 20 gallon tall tank. I'm not sure how much more it will expand. ... show more

It made my plants colors pop a lil better than the standard aquarium kit lights. I love that it has a selectable mode 1 button 3 settings. I wish it had a 4th meaning a lower white light setting. the on/off switch could have been a little futher from the ac plug end just my preference. all in all its a great light for a planted tank.
