  • Great Quality!
I did a lot of searching for what I wanted and this under-sink water filter is perfect, plus the price was right. Only thing I can suggest is make sure your hardware store is open when you install this. I replaced an old reverse osmosis system and some of the parts didn't fit. But it works perfect, has strong pressure and makes the ice-cubes too. Extremely happy!! ... show more

  • Better than refilling a pitcher
Water tastes better than tap, and is easier than filling a Brita pitcher or Berkey filter. Install was pretty easy, just follow the directions. I only had to get a new shutoff valve because my original one was a straight, and using the included adapter would have made it too long to attach my faucet supply line. Took a day or two for all the bubbles to clear out, even flushing the gallons that the user manual says to flush. This was cheaper than a competitor, and I have longer intervals between my filter changes, and replacement filter elements are cheaper also. ... show more

  • Works great. No specifics on what is filtered.
So far, we are pleased with the APEC WFS-1000. The installation was straightforward, the faucet nice, and the flow impressive. My only complaint is the lack of transparency concerning WHAT exactly is filtered. This is the third system we have had. The other two both included with the system and in every replacement filter box a highly detailed, extensive listing of what contaminants are reduced or eliminated. They had outside testing companies that test the filters and report results, then the manufacturer shares with the consumer on a piece of paper in every box. With APEC, so far all I've heard is sediment, chlorine, VOC's, and "other chemicals". That is highly unclear. This leads me to wonder if the lack of testing, or at least to the extent of where it is shared with the consumer has something to do with the comparatively low cost of this system, even more so the replacement filters. Their 3-filter replacement set is half the cost of the last similar systm we had. Also, lead removal or reduction is not a feature of their standard filters. They do have available a separate filter that can be purchased if lead is a concern. I also found this to be strange, as lead and chlorine are usually the main targets of drinking water filtration. Other than these details, the system seems very sturdy, and with new filters, the flow is great-comparable to a regular faucet. I would feel better knowing the details as to what is being filtered out. ... show more

  • Not the best & not the worst
It doesn’t leak so it has that going for it. I was having high TDS readings when we first set it up & the water was cloudy looking from all the bubbles in the system & it was leaving a foamy crud on the surface of the water. So I purged it for a few extra minutes a second time & that cleared it all up. Our water quality isn’t horrible w/o a filter it’s just full of chlorine & it smells of that & I am sensitive to it so it gives me a sore throat if I drink from the tap. It removed the chlorine taste & smell & no sore throat so that’s another win. It isn’t the best tasting water I’ve ever had but it’s sufficient. This is our second APEC water filter purchase & we specifically looked for this brand to purchase again. It should last for several years with minor maintenance. So if this is your price range I would recommend it. ... show more

  • The filter is good, plumbing was tricky and mounting could be improved.
This is a decent water filter. This is the third similar filter I have purchased, the first one was a 2 chamber string/carbon unit that came from an eBay seller and it never stopped tasting like the plastic cannisters after several months. I replaced that with a Kenmore 2 chamber unit that worked fine but one of the chambers cracked and started leaking after about 4 years. Sears discontinued that model. The Apec filter takes the same 9-3/4" cartridges that the other models use, which is nice if you have a stock of replacement filters like me. The installation was fairly easy, although the adapters were not the same as shown in the manual. As with most plumbing projects, I had to go to the hardware store to buy parts to get it up and running. My setup already had a separate ball valve and 1/2" male pipe thread connection, I had to buy a 1/2" female to female brass elbow and a 1/2" male to 1/4" brass compression adapter to connect to the filter's tubing inlet. I did not use the supplied needle valve. Compared to the Kenmore's 3/8" tubing, the water flow through the Apec's 1/4" tubing is a bit slower, it would be nice if they used 3/8" tubing. The only other issue was mounting the filter, the flange had two slot-hole mounts, but they were behind the cannisters and mounted sideways. Vertical slot-holes would be much easier to work with since they could hold the filter steady with gravity. I installed a small piece of wood that was spaced from the cabinet with washers and fits under the mounting flange. I installed another piece of wood that keeps the cannister bottoms in a vertical position. Now everything can be lifted in and out with no tools, which will be nice when it's time to change the filters. Despite the various issues, the water tastes good and the quality of the filter is good so I would recommend it to others. ... show more
