  • Love it - but you must clean the filter every 1-2 weeks
I need to give this fountain some love. I was hesitant buying it because of all the bad reviews, but I’m glad I did. I’ve had this fountain for 3 months and use it 24/7 and I love it. There are a few things to keep in mind for it to work effectively though. Firstly, you must clean the filter every 1-2 weeks. The filter is the little black spongy thing in the pump. Just take it out and wash it with soap and water. If you do this, the water will flow great, if you don’t, the water will stop flowing and it will make weird sounds. Secondly, a lot of people complain about the flow of the water - some people say it’s too much, others say it’s not enough. To achieve a nice flow, after filling up the fountain, plug it in and while the water is flowing, pour more water in until you have your desired water pressure and flow. I love this and so does my kitty! I hope this helps anyone who is either struggling with theirs or are on the fence about buying it! ... show more

  • Poorly engineered
I have a persian cat who tips his head when drinking from a bowl and always get the whole side of his chin/jaw wet. I was looking for a small, shallow fountain thinking he wouldn't get so wet. I got the fountain today and had to go online to follow the directions. Took me a while to figure out how to open the pump and then find the "button" - which isn't a button. It's a slide and I pushed it fully open. Then, because the bowl is rounded, the pump doesn't sit on the bowl bottom directly below the top part. It sits forward of the top so that the hose is slightly angled toward the back. Consequently, when I plugged it in a fountain rose up and went right over the little cup at the top and right onto counter/floor. Very poor design. I played with the slider and at one point got the water bubbling in the top cup but then the drain was slower than the bubbling so it overflowed toward the back again. Too small of an opening and it flows down the side of the top cup and runs off the bottom bowl - you guessed it - in the back! It's amazing that it could be engineered so poorly. I finally found the right opening but am afraid to experience the clogging that other reviewers have experienced. I also cut the plastic hose shorter and angled it so it was lower in the front. I'm going to see if it solves the problem but will probably order a different one. So many are plastic tho and I try to avoid that. If anyone knows of one that is shallow, I'd appreciate the help. ... show more

  • Good idea, bad execution
Most bowls are too big for a household of only one pet, and I needed a non-plastic bowl to avoid cat chin acne (which happens to some cats from plastic). When I saw this, it was just the right size and ceramic, so I bought it. I found it had a relatively small footprint - just what I wanted. However, assembly was very tricky and frustrating. The pump just "floats" inside the water, rather than having a specific place to affix it. It made assembling this bowl a nightmare, because the pump just keeps moving around. This causes loudest, worst high pitched noises I've ever heard from such a little thing. If I lower the water level, try a better placement of the pump (almost impossible for something that freely moves in the water), and place it on a towel, the noise does go away. It is such a pain, because I have to do this every time I clean it out. If only the manufacturers had designed an anchor for this pump, this would have been perfect. WIthout, it is just not worth it. ... show more

  • A fountain of headache - suitable more for decorative purposes
Its beautiful, very beautiful. The ceramic is absolutely beautiful but the fountain set up was an absolute pain- a total headache the pump works beautifully- its strong but definitely too strong for this product. I spent about an hour adjusting everything to function in a way that the dang water didnt spout out over the bowl! The pump itself was definitely not meant for it, it's a rectangul shaped pump ment to go on a rounded bowl but it doesnt align with out kinking the provided hose causing the fountain to shoot water toward the back of the lotus bowl making a mess everywhere. The ceramic water reservoir doesn't come with any way to seal the lotus or stabilize it aside from the hose that attaches to the pump- tou will need to cut the hose to avoid the the fountain overshooting the lotus and spilling everywhere. This product is great for decorative item but unfortunately the fountain pump provided makes this product non-functional for its intended purpose. If you could find an more suitable pump and maybe a silicon gasket to seal the lotus bowl to the water reservoir then this product would be lovely! ... show more
