This is a GREAT air conditioner. Got it installed and turned it on. It was very quiet and was throwing out VERY cold air ! Set the temp at 72 and went back downstairs for a few hours. My wife went upstairs and said it was freezing up there !! Turned the temp up a bit, and noticed that it had cooled my ENTIRE UPSTAIRS. This is a very nice machine and I give it 5 Stars. I bought this a few weeks ago & installed it last weekend. So far I love it. It runs super quiet inside but is loud once you step outside. I love the shape. I replaced a portable ac unit & will never buy one of those again. I'm thinking of getting one of these for my bedroom because of how quiet it is. Just be smart & buy the warranty just in case, this isn't a cheap ac unit. ... show more

The AC unit works well. It was NOT easy to install. Beware if you’re wanting to put this on anything but a ground level floor. I wanted to submit photos of how this arrived. I doubt it left a store in this condition. I would guess this is the shipper/driver responsibility. The box came with a huge tear where the AC opening is. It was also dented in the same spot.     • Finally, Quiet AC AND I Can Still Use My Window!

I was dreading another summer with a standard noisy window AC unit that completely blocked my view. Then I saw these U-shaped or "saddle" style units and was intrigued. This Antarctic Star one seemed like a good balance of features and BTU for my ~400 sq ft living room. Installation was actually surprisingly manageable. The design lets it 'hang' over the windowsill (with included support brackets, definitely use those!), which felt much more secure than balancing a traditional heavy box. The best part? Once installed, I can actually still open and close the window a bit! The biggest difference, though, is the noise level. Oh my goodness, it's SO much quieter than any window unit I've ever owned. Because the noisy compressor part sits outside the window, you mostly just hear the fan blowing inside. It's a game-changer, especially for watching TV or just relaxing without that constant drone. The 10000 BTU rating seems accurate – it cools down my living room really effectively, even on hotter days. The remote is straightforward, and it has the usual modes (cool, fan, energy saver). I haven't had it long enough to see a huge difference on my electric bill, but it seems efficient. Being able to keep my window mostly functional while getting powerful, quiet cooling is fantastic. Just got this unit installed and I'm trying it out. I'll update if anything new happens over time. Update: One problem I'm having is around 72-76F temperature settings the unit smells bad, musky. Since the unit is new and no smells are in my room or outside, I'm assuming it's because of water not evaporated or something like that. I read some units are using more aluminum instead of copper which can allow more bacteria. Either way I'm not sure, but new out of the box the unit at higher temperatures produces bad smells. Pros: This unit is not too loud, I've tried a Midea unit and the Midea is quiet, and this unit is quiet or maybe slightly louder but has a quiet mode that is probably around 40db give or take. I've also tried the standard $150 small window unit and it is very loud so I put it in an area where the volume doesn't matter. Nice cold air. Cons: The screws you extend on the outside for support are a bit on the flimsy side relative to the weight of the unit. I'm setting some weight on top of the inside portion in order to balance it out a bit and keep the screws from almost bending from the weight. A picky thing that doesn't really matter: unit does not seem to come with a piece of insulation to shove in the top window crack. Information: So my window only opens to about 13" or so. I have a fold out style window, so I really went nuts and disassembled part of the window in order to get this unit in. So by taking out the bottom glass, and taking out the screens, I was able to get like a 13.5" opening which just barely fit this unit through. So just be aware that if you have a smaller window and might try to fold the U shaped unit through, it can be tricky and you can't get much extra space even utilizing the saddle shape. Might be able to do it from the outside, I'm not sure. I had to just straight shot it through from the inside. ... show more
