Been looking for a convenient code reader with the ability to clear codes. This does that. I also needed one to monitor a few parameters on my current daily driver (coolant temp) while driving. This is a first-use review so I can't say how it would hold up to hard use, but it did work perfectly right out of the box. I got a check engine light on my 2011 Hyundai Elantra and decided to buy this unit from a CNET review. It was really easy to use: 1. Download the app. 2. Find the plug on the car. 3. Start the car. 4. Plug in the unit. 5. Start the app. I didn't try to use the built-in screen and buttons on the unit itself. The app was fairly straight forward, though. I quickly found the error codes and it turned out to be a bad gas cap. There is a lot of other stuff in there, too (what you see might depend on your vehicle). I bought this because I had a check engine light flash very briefly on my way to work one day. Because the flashing check engine light in my vehicle was brief this device was not able to find any faults but my father also had a check engine light come on that stayed on and not only did it find the fault it was able to clear it so he can get his air conditioning back on in the Arizona heat. This kept happening until he was able to get it in the shop so I was able to clear his error codes and keep his air conditioner running until he was able to get it fixed. ... show more

Easy to set up. Wish it would give you the normal range parameters for sensors reading so you can compare that to the actual readings. Instead I have to go look up what the normal readings are on a website

What I liked was I didn't have to pay to have some mechanic charge me 3 times as much as OBD2 cost me and then charge me even more to "fix" the problem.

Hooked it up and ran it through it's paces. Seems to work well but the readouts are a little too technical for me. I kept having to go through google looking terms up for definitions and interpretations.

This is our second Car Code reader. We had a Foxwell, I think that was the brand, one prior that we liked a lot but stopped working while my husband was out of town and our car had thrown three warning lights. So I took the opportunity to research OBD readers (I think that is what they are called) as I figured we would need a new one. This one we ended up buying was on a “best of” list not only for price, but for ease of use and the display. The function of it was highly rated, but I also liked the fact that u could use the bluetooth function to connect to the device, download the free app, and easily read the issues from your phone! So much easier that the display we had on our prior reader. And then to have other options for trip readings, battery life, VIN verification and more along with a great price made this an easy purchase. Then the fact I was able to easily get it hooked up and diagnosed the issue with our car by myself reinforced it was a great buy. With the info, I was able to order the parts and then we fixed the car. Cleared off the codes and the warning lights in the car with it.
