the app almost immediately connects to the scan tool. the interface is clean and easy to use. it allows you to run trouble codes, view live data, freeze frames, monitor your trips which will provide you very detailed info at the end of trip like speed, braking distance, RPMs, distance, etc. each mil code will show all possible reasons it may have been thrown. in short if you don't have a code reader buy this now. if you do have one, buy this now. ive been through several and this beats the pants off those. It paired up easily via Bluetooth, and worked immediately when scanning trouble codes. I had no trouble accessing any of the features or doing any of the performance tests. Some of the data on the features dashboard are for more advanced mechanics, but I was able to muddle through them. I don't know what a few of the features are for, but I will get to know them in time. The app has a help function, and you can also send feedback to the company if you have a problem installing or connecting it. Trouble codes are defined for you, so you don't need to look anything up, and you will know what the problem is immediately. "Pending codes" are also displayed. My only gripe about this device is that none of the dashboard functions, including DTC history can be accessed in the app unless the device is plugged into the vehicle. I wanted to go to my mechanic and show him what the device actually read. When I got to the shop and opened the app, all it said was, "Device not connected"! For this reason alone, I give it four stars. So for all intents and purposes, the app itself is useless if you aren't actively using the code scanner. It should at least retain the trouble code logs! Also, while you can leave the device connected when you are doing trip performance functions, you should not leave it plugged in permanently. ... show more

I use a strictly middle of the road rating because it will not work in my 2000 Nissan Frontier 4x4. It hooks up fine, the app seems OK, but there is absolutely nothing that shows anything is working. I do not, at this time, know if it is a lack of support for the 2000 Frontier in the database or if there is something wrong with me OBD connection, or even if the unit is somehow defective. ... show more

Additional information: In the past few weeks I've been emailed repeatedly with offers of up to a $40 Amazon gift card to remove this review. I have replied that I will not remove an accurate and objective review of their product for monetary compensation. This is being written by a network security engineer that has worked in the automotive aftermarket and has designed and built Bluetooth devices... RUNAWAY from this one. I chose this after going through the documentation for the various apps and finding that the devices recommended are either no longer available or have been redesigned to save money and don't work as well, and was finally left with what the different standards mean and "try to buy a name brand if nothing else." OK, by their blurb this one meets all the standards that I was interested in and a friend of mine has another by the same brand that he's owned for 6 years and been happy with. Further, I noticed that most of the devices leave you to look at the different apps out there this one has its own in addition that the manufacturer provides which seems to be a standard for their scan tools..., good, a baseline that it could be judged by not needing to rely on 3rd party stuff that could be sketchy. OK. No, not OK. I actually followed the instructions in the packaging and even downloaded with the QR code. It won't connect. Plug it in, unplug it, reboot the phone, restart the car, disable the car's Bluetooth (Ford Synch System). I got a connection... no, it's gone. I finally got a connection using a 3rd party app, well I got a yellow "connected" light but no green "communicating." I finally got it talking... I try Ancel's app again, and it connects. I guess it's working, it stops, but the green light is still on. I turn off everything with Bluetooth, the green light is still on but the app doesn't see a connection. Unplug it, reboot, restart the car, and drive to a park over 1000' away from the nearest building/car in the middle of the night, every time I plug it into the DLC I get a green light with nothing Bluetooth turned on. After 4 hours (it became a beer-drinking event with 2 computer engineer/car guy friends) I managed to get a connection 2 times intermittently, once with their app and once with a 3rd party, I never did find out what was wrong with the car. I ordered 2 devices from another manufacturer, one cheaper and one more expensive. The cheaper one comes first. I plug it in, and in 5 minutes I get it connected to both old school and new Bluetooth (2.0 and 4.x/IOS interface). I got it working with every app I tried except 1 that required an account and I never got the activation email. Maybe the one that I got was defective, I doubt it since it powered up correctly and was able to talk to things at times. I suspect it is just a horrible implementation of the Bluetooth 4.x/5.0 standard/hardware. ... show more

I have used a few of these over the years this one is the quickest one I have had so far! It doesn't feel like cheap junk even though it was 30 bucks. I really like this tool works great with my android s21fe phone.
