I had the 7 pieces finger tightened together in a jiffy. Seems sturdy and the pieces went together with no issues. Measures 9” high, 31” inside. I do wonder about the quality of the steel. A similar ring at Lowes weighs 34#. This one weighs 14.5#. I’ll give it a try as a ground fire ring to check on durability before building a pit to size as there are no specs given for the steel (“heavy duty”) used in this ring. ... show more

Great start for a well built fire pit. There are panels that come disassembled and in need of putting together. They are nice, strong and heavy duty enough to withstand high long term heat and fire. The set doesn't include any kind of top or bottom which is understandable, this kit is more for a main start for you to build a custom fire pit. We dug out a hole in the yard where we wanted to put our pit, lined the whole with lava rock and inserted the fire ring down in the hole level with the ground. This allowed us to place our stone wall around the top edge and build it upwards to make a nice setting. Works well and has many uses for you to design your own style pit. ... show more

This is a nice fire pit ring insert made of heavier than usual plate steel sections that are bolted together. The finish appears to be thick and durable, but won't really know how well it holds up until it gets more uses. My only gripe are the bolts: the product includes a hex key and a small flat wrench which I found terribly uncomfortable to use so I gabbed a 1/4" ratchet and socket. I initially assembled the ring with finger tight bolts so that I could then put it on a flat surface to make sure all the panels would align well. I then proceeded to tighten the bolts using the ratchet. I intended on torqueing the bolts tight since the heat cycling causes the bolt to expand and contract so I wanted them tight but even with a small 1/4" drive wrench and, IMO, not too hard a turn a bolt snapped. Obviously I didn't attempt that again with the remaining bolts. I also found out that there is not a single extra nut or bolt. ... show more

I had been looking for a secondary fire pit ring for awhile and when I saw this I thought I would give it a try. The pieces seem sturdy, but my lack of five stars (and I wavered to make it 3) was due to just that "pieces". I have a lot of concern regarding the longevity of any screw when it comes to extended fire use. It seems like there could be problems down the not to distance road. Fall in KY is the time for sitting around the fire, so this ring will be put to the test multiple times. Base on how it holds up will impact this rating in a couple of months. ... show more

This is heavy duty. I am using it in a fire pit that I already created with river rocks. I do not need a bottom, so it works perfectly for me. It adds more security and structure to my fire. The pieces are not hard to assemble and hopefully it will not need to do anything further. The reason I rate it 4-1/2 stars is that I really don't think it is ideal for camping -- transferring from one place to another. This is a good ring for your firepit setup. The sides are a bit shallow and there's no bottom, so you'll just use this as a protective ring around whatever you choose to use for the circumference. This comes in about 8 panels that you bolt together to form the circle. Assembly is easy, although I recommend gloves because I got a metal sliver thanks to subpar hardware. I also would easily round off the bolt heads because the metal used to make them is way too soft. The ring itself though is heavy duty, durable, and heavy. We have always had those cheap fire pits and they always rust out on the bottom. Got this because it’s a foundation for a real fire pit. Received the product and was pleasantly surprised at how heavy it was. It is the perfect size for a family fire pit. This 31" firepit insert is great quality, and a good size. The steel is thick and unbendable. Super easy to put together. The hardware is high quality too. It looks good enough to use as is, or put stone or brick around it....I'll be using stacked stone. Can't wait to light this baby up!
