I’ve been using this shredder for a little while now, and it does exactly what I need it to do. The paper feeder makes it super easy to shred multiple sheets at once—up to 7–8 sheets like it says—without having to feed them one by one. It handles mail, paperwork, and even credit cards and CDs without any issues. I love the micro cut feature—it shreds everything into tiny pieces, so sensitive information is completely safe. One thing I really like is that if it overheats, it automatically stops until it cools down. That gives me peace of mind knowing it won’t burn out or get damaged. It’s also portable on wheels, which makes it easy to move between rooms, so it’s just as convenient for home as it is for an office setting. I bought the 8-sheet capacity shredder. At first, I was thinking I had made a bad purchasing decision, but after having used it for several months, I have completely changed my mind. I would describe myself as a low- to moderate-level user. Some days or weeks I might only use it occasionally to shred a piece of mail or receipts, but at other times, like when I’m cleaning out files or working on taxes, I give it a good workout. At first, it seemed a little slow and awkward to feed papers into what looked like a very narrow slot at the correct angle, but once I got the hang of it, all was good. While it doesn’t shred extremely fast, it’s fast enough for my needs. One thing I have had trouble with is emptying the bin. It is certainly easy to pull out the bin for emptying, but I have made plenty of messes trying to dump the shreds into a trash bag. It can be difficult to get a good, comfortable grip on the bin while holding open a trash bag. The best technique for me thus far has come from “Ask Rufus” who suggests putting a large kitchen trash bag over the bin and inverting it to dump the contents. I still manage to sometimes make messes, but this has been the best technique yet. I tried using thin liners (I bought a roll of 4-gallon plaster liners), and while they work fairly well, the ones I ordered are too long and have to be folded over the bin rim before closing it, and I don’t like the looks of the plastic showing on the outside of the shredder. Bottom line: I think it’s a decent shredder for moderate use at a relatively low price. For me, the value is there.

Just received this paper shredder and tested it out. I was not sure how the 5 minute run-time might affect things, but I ran a bit over a few dozen pages through it right after one another and it wasn't complaining. For the price, I'm very happy. Arrived well packed, safe and sound, unlike the last shredder I had ordered from Amazon that came cracked on the main unit. My initial criteria was a shredder with wheels that didn't kick out a ton of dust & a large continuous run-time. Wheels are nice so you can put it under a desk or out of the way and easily roll it out when necessary. Despite this Amazon Basics shredder not having a large run-time (5 minutes runtime and 30 minutes off) I figured for around $65 it was worth a shot. More often I'm shredding just a small stack of papers and for those rare times where I'm facing shredding a few hundred pages I can just shred smaller stacks over time. Not a big deal. If it breaks prematurely I won't be annoyed having spent 2-3x the cost. Honestly for $65 I'm super impressed so far!

This Amazon Basics micro-cut shredder works well for everyday home use. It shreds paper into very small pieces, which is great for securely destroying documents, and it also handles credit cards and CDs as advertised. The pull-out bin makes it easy to empty, and the unit itself is compact enough to fit nicely in a home office. The only thing to keep in mind is to stay within the 8-sheet capacity. If you try to overload it, it will slow down or struggle a bit. As long as you feed it the recommended amount, it works reliably and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Great shredder for light to moderate use.

8 Sheet Shredder with Disc Slot The shredder works great. The shredder is smaller then my previous shredder. I was worked that the bin would be too small and fill up quickly. Not the case. Shreds into small pieces so bin doesn't fill as quickly as my previous shredder that was larger. Shredder allows for 20 minutes of shredding before thermal protection kicks in. Bin was not full at the 20 min mark. Comes with casters/wheels for moving around. I didn't install them so shredder could be more easily stored. Has an AC cord not adapter. Cord is adequate length. Shredders do need to be oiled. Perhaps why my old shredder died. I didn't oil. Instructions say to use ONLY shredding oil. Unlike some reviews that said you could also use vegetable or cooking oil. I believe instructions recommend oiling once a month. However I have read that a best practice is every time you empty the bin. Oiling a shredder is required no matter of the brand you select. You can also buy lubricanted sheets also mentioned in the instructions. I have read the sheets are not as good as using the oil. Shredding oil is not included. Highly recommend especially given the performance for the small footprint.

I did a lot of research on finding the perfect shredder for our home office. We had a version from Amazon that was great since 2020 and it was a work horse. It sadly perished and for the last week, I have read so many online reviews that my eyes hurt. I spent more time than needed but sometimes I go into the rabbit hole easily. So, we finally selected this and when it arrived I was super excited because I was backlogged with itema needing shredded. Out of the box, I knew something was up because my older, less expensive version just had 2 pieces and this had 3. Not a huge deal but it caught me off guard and it was much heavier than my original one. The plastic pieces that hold the base together felt flimsy but it locked into place without much effort. I began to shred and the pace at which it took the paper and shredded one page was so much slower than my old shredder. They are both 8 sheet however my older model is cross cut and this is micro. Perhaps that is why it was so much slower. I did another test where I race the shredder and insert one page at a time from a stack and with my old version, if I had to lick my finger to grasp the paper to seperate it from a stack, I lost. I would NEVER lose with this machine and actually had to stop because I was wasting my time sitting there waiting. It is going back. We wanted this because it was 8 sheets and had a cd shredder but I don't have the time to wait. Also, it stopped 3 times due to the overheating function and the waste basket, while technically a little bigger than my old model, stops if it gets close to being full. So I had to empty the wastebasket several times more than I would have with the old shredder. Add in the downtime for overheating and cool down and a 45 min project would have taken 3 hours if I continued. So, it is going back and I am getting the same one that I had before. It is an 8 sheet Amazon Basics 8 sheet cross-cut and credit card shredder which is on sale for 37.00 (Aug 2024). It is fast, reliable and doesn't need emptied every 100 sheets or less. This is a perfect example that proves just because something is more expensive, doesn't mean it is better quality. In this case, less costly turns out to be the best. Returning this item ASAP. BTW, i can cut my cds with scissors and don't need the cd shredder. It just isn't worth the headache for the slow pace of the micro cut paper shredder. Update: i forgot to mention that the top of the shredder must be assembled to the body and trash bin. BE CAREFUL.....the plastic pieces that join them are thin. Thankfully, mine snapped into place with little effort but it is something to ensure you are careful with. I am trying to disassemble mine to return and there are no instructions to do this and the AI chatbot with Amazon even says to do so could run the risk of breaking it, which then voids your warranty, etc. Since this cannot be taken to Whole Foods to return, you ship it back via UPS (Amazon provides the qr code/label). Since it arrives disassembled, it won't fit in the box when you return it. So, plan on buying bubble wrap to ensure it ships safely.
