  • Nice Chair
Color: Light Gray
For starters, this was bought to replace my wife's upholstered desk chair which is probably 15+, maybe pushing 20, years old. It was still going strong - sat well, everything worked - except for one thing: the material on the back on one of the top corners was literally falling apart. So, with that, although she picked the old one out and used it all this time it was a large chair which I always thought would be more suited for me (6', 200lb). It had a much higher back and longer seat (she always used it with a back pillow). This new one is a much smaller chair - which I would characterize as more of a ladies or smaller person's chair - and (my opinion) more suited for her size. The fabric is much softer as is the padding. I wouldn't like it for me but the few times (so far) she has used it she (shorter, much lighter weight) says it is very comfortable. I hope it lasts as long as the one it is replacing. So, the above are initial impressions as it has been in the house less than 2 hours. From slicing open the box (assembly required) taking out the bits (back, seat, two arms, seat base plate, hydraulic lift piston, base, casters and hardware) to completely done was under 45 minutes. Pretty basic assembly. The instructions use no words, only pictures (although those pictures are in numerous languages) and, after a bit of consternation about the lack of words, it really was straightforward. All the necessary bolts are in a blister pack along with a nice hex driver. I generally use my variable speed/clutch drill for such assemblies but this driver did such a nice job there was no need. The bolts are nice coarse thread ones - which they should be - and appear to have a coating on the end to keep them from backing out once tightened. The base plate and seat are labeled so all that is needed is to match the front label on one with the front label on the other. The arms are the same (no right or left) - each would go on either side. Really only two assembly suggestions: 1) Once the arms are attached to the seat, lay the back on the seat and put the 2 lower back bolts in first, then pivot the back to it's upright position and put in the top bolts and 2) Use a putty knife or other tool with a flat blade and a rubber mallet to put the plastic plugs in the arms to cover the bolt heads (although the bolts are so far recessed in the arms and painted black they pretty much do not need to be covered) as, try as I might I could not push them into the holes. The putty knife holds them in the hole (saving my fingers) while I whacked the blade with the mallet. Of course, it goes without saying - especially for the arms & back - but will say it anyway, don't tighten the bolts until all are in place and well engaged. Then go back and tighten them all. ... show more

  • Nice overall
Color: Light Gray
Pros: It came in good condition, it looks really nice, the fabric is soft, and the padded arm rests are nice. It makes me have better posture than my old chair. Relatively easy to assemble by myself in about 30 minutes. It would have been easier if the instructions had you put the arms on before putting the seat onto the pole thing ( btw instructions were hard to locate at first - they were in the bag with the chair back). cons: I don't know if this would work for anyone tall. I'm 5'5" and I think it's just the right size for me. But even I wish it had just a slightly deeper seat. I'm not sure about the neck rest area. It kind of hits right at the top of my shoulders and not sure if that's comfy. The cushioning is a little firm but that might be okay or soften with time. The seat padding kind of dips down towards the back of the chair which might be comfy for some but I can kind of feel it when I'm sitting and not sure if that will be annoying. ... show more

  • Great Chair for the Price
Color: Light Gray
I got the silver gray and the fabric is very soft and the chair is for the most part very comfy. The price was certainly a deal. My last chair was a 30-year-old Steelcase with many ways to adjust the arms, seat, pitch, etc., but this feels great right out of the box and I hope it will keep feeling that way, as I use it daily. I will update. ... show more

  • Has its problems, but nice chair.
Color: Light Gray
This chair is an exact clone of the Serta Hannah executive office chair I used several years ago. If you want all the nitty-gritty details, you can hunt down my review for that product, but here are some general comments. Over the years, I have come to the determination that this chair is intended for females. Maybe that's why Serta calls it the "Hannah" model. I'm 6'3", and the chair is way too narrow... don't believe the dimensions at the top of the product page for a second. This chair is NOT 26.5" wide; more like 19.5" across the seat, and less at the armpads. The outsides of my thighs scrape against the armrest frame when I'm sitting... worse if there's anything in my pants pockets (and there's always something in the pockets, right?). Often times, I can't get in/out of the chair because the pocket items catch on the armrests. Speaking of the armrests, they sit a little too low for me to work comfortably typing on a keyboard. I can still do it, obviously, just not ideally. As for the back, the very top of the chair back is about 1-2" below my collar bone. The padded "headrest" is squarely at my shoulders. I love the microfiber fabric. It's what drew me to the chair in the first place; but if it's like the Serta--and I assume it is--then it's a thin material and will rip easily if bumped into a desk corner or any brackets underneath (the voice of experience). This is primarily a home office chair and needs a gentle touch. At the time of purchase, the Serta was under $100. Those days are gone, but this Amazon Basics chair is comparably priced to what the Serta once was, and as I've said, this Amazon Basics chair is an exact clone, probably from the same manufacturer (in China). Ah, there _is_ one major difference between this chair and the Serta: the Serta chair came with a warranty, whereas this one does not. All that said, this is a comfortable chair for the most part. It would be much better if it was wider, though. Adjustable armrests would be a plus, but then you're moving into a higher price range. The seat is firm--maybe even extra firm--and while it supports well and is quite comfortable, it also kind of numbs my rear end if I sit in it too long. The lumbar support is decent. Assembly was easy, though it was tricky at times getting the chair back holes to align with the armrests. Some of the screws were difficult to start in correctly. Tip: Don't force the screws or you'll damage the threads. They'll screw in easily when they're straight. Tip 2: Don't tighten down the screws until all eight are in position and partly screwed in. It'll help when assembling the back (you want the armrests to be wobbly). Once all eight are started, then tighten them down. Overall a nice chair for the price. ... show more

  • Comfortable cloth instead of leather/vinyl,
Color: Light Gray
I needed a new office chair and chose this cloth chair for comfort, which is important to me. My husband was easily able to put it together. I'm quite happy with this chair.
