  • Trusted dehumidifier!
Style: Sentinel HD35P
This thing is a real workhorse! It consistently keeps the humidity in our boat at the perfect level and we've been running it constantly for many months. We have it set up to drain into the galley sink and it is a nice size to sit right on the counter. It is solid and heavy. Since it is draining directly into the sink, we don't have to bother with emptying it. It is not excessively noisy, and it is an excellent value. We had gone through three smaller dehumidifiers that did not last before buying this one. ... show more

  • Great customer service
Style: Sentinel HD35P
This item has worked wonderfully for us for the last year and a half. Excellent performance, easy to operate and no moisture issues whatsoever in our basement. A month or so ago, we experienced a product issue and I contacted customer service at Alorair. They replied extremely quickly and worked with us to resolve the issue. Very satisfied, with the product performance itself, but also in the customer service standing behind their products. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • works like a charm
Style: Sentinel HD35P
my basement was a damp horror show til I bought this! Man my laundry/utility room were all the water pipes are centralized... oh BOY... just horrible in summer. I do not have central A/C cause I live up north and don't really need a lot of cooling... so.. I knew it was no use using a common dehumidifier. THIS UNIT WOW. that basement is dry now in summer. does the trick very nicely. I have a drain so did not need to use the pump out feature. the laundry "room" is not enclosed totally, so really the whole basement gets the benefit. It is 900 sq feet and I am VERY pleased I bought this. ... show more

  • Status of repair (13 March 2024) - SAFETY ISSUE??
Style: Sentinel HD35P
The media could not be loaded. 13 March 2024 Update: ALORAIR sent me an email asking me to do some testing for them. When I went down stairs an hour or two ago to turn the machine off in preparation of getting the starting humidity for the test they asked for, I noticed water pouring out of the casing again, meaning to me that the plastic condenser tank is overflowing into the casing again - meaning the case is (again) full of water (video I attached today - could not add videos from last week due to Amazon one video limit) - as I had described on 9 March (last week). Yes, that is the 120 volts plug where the water is pouring out (it was a live line). I immediately cut off the electricity to the unit before coming upstairs to send them an email asking for a call. I told them in email and on the call that this point I do not feel safe turning this machine back on without draining both the condenser tank and the housing and letting the housing completely dry before attempting any more testing. They are sending me a shipping label to send it back for testing by their engineers. My gut feeling is poor design compounded by poor QC. I will say the company reps are polite. As always, I will let you know what happens. 12 March 2024 Update: ALORAIR replacement pump did not fix the issue. I sent them an email on 12 March stating that after replacing the pump the machine still did not seem to be working properly. I could hear the compressor but could not see any indication water was leaving the machine via the pump. If I manually pushed the button to force it to drain it, it did make the correct sound, but I could not see any water going through the hose. I did not see any error messages. The pump just wasn’t working… 09 March 2024 Update: ALORAIR shipped me a replacement pump a week or two ago, but I did not install it until today. I'll let you know if the problem is fixed in a day or two. Looking at unit with cover off was informative. Short version is (IMHO) ALORAIR needs to warn buyers who buy a model with the pump that if they configure it to use the pump, and the pump fails, IMMEDIATELY disconnect the power and re-configure the unit for gravity drain to avoid someone getting electrocuted or the sensitive electronics from getting damaged by water. Reason why is unit is designed so water from condenser drip-drains straight down into a plastic tank on that side (your right as looking at unit with cover off) of the unit (electronics are on your left as looking at unit). If pump is configured, the pump suction drains that condenser tank. If pump is not configured (you are using the gravity drain instead), a rubber plug is removed so water in the condenser tank leaves the unit through the hole the plug was in and out the hose you attach. IMPORTANT - if NOT using the gravity drain (plug is in) but instead using the pump (gravity plug must be in for pump to work) AND THE PUMP FAILS, then the water in the condenser tank keep rising until it OVERFLOWS the condenser tank -- and then floods the entire floor of the entire unit (literally creating a pond of conductive water mere millimeters from the 120-volts electronics -- if configured for 120 volts), creating the "leaking from the corner" unit many folks are reporting. The danger here is if you accidently unlevel a non-functioning pump equipped water-filled unit (say by trying to pick it up) while it is plugged in, and the volume of water inside rises in a corner faster than the unit's seams drain it, I believe you stand a better than even chance of being electrocuted. IMHO - the unit needs an unexpected ground sensor that cuts the electricity if a unit configured for pump experiences a pump failure in conjunction with water reaching the unit's floor. I'll post videos taken today of my (first) draining the condenser tank by removing the gravity seal (power was disconnected beforehand) and then my accidently draining the floor of the rest of the unit when I tried to move it and getting deluged by the volume of water sitting on the floor (video shows water overwhelming the 120 volts plug area). Finally, performing the pump replacement procedure per the video I was referred to, it seems to me the QC issues I had opined about before opening the case were proved correct. One water pump clamp was missing (never installed) and the water pickup hose from condenser tank to pump intake practically fell out when I followed the instructions. I suspect that this loosely mounted hose may be the primary source of water exfiltration from tank to floor of entire unit (and possible corrosion issues for electronic components millimeters above a pool of water down the road). Best recommendation I can make at this point is do not attempt to use the pump and configure pump-equipped units to run only in gravity mode. If you need to pump the water elsewhere, I recommend use gravity drain to a separately procured water pump from another company. As I said, I'll let you know what happens. 22 February Update: E4 code and nothing pumping... I have contacted support for assistance today. I'll let you know what happens. Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend anyone buy this machine. 17 February 2024 Update: I got a hose I purchased from another company to fit the compression nut at the end of October. I've checked every day since then before I head for bed. Everything worked great until three days ago when I noticed a puddle of water in the room. Traced source and the device is leaking INSIDE the device and out the corner - just like all the other folks reported. I am so mad I cannot see straight. If I manually push the button to force it to drain through the powered hose it will -- however I have no plans to sit in that room for the next ten years and push that button every five minutes to get it to work, nor will I switch the drain to the unpowered method for gravity drain - that is NOT what I paid for. Once I calm down, I'll call them about sending their machine back and getting a refund. I'll let you know how their customer service work out. Until then, I cannot recommend anyone buy this machine. 21 October 2023 Update: The new compression nut shipped by ALORAIR arrived today. It was exactly the same as the first (supplied with dehumidifier) compression nut and fixed NOTHING. Same exact issue. I still have an expensive dehumidifier that I cannot hook up the supplied drain hose with to test... I will call them back tomorrow and ask to talk to an actual engineer. My guess is they will ship a new hose -- that also will not fix what looks more and more to be a SERIOUS QA problem. If ALORAIR cannot get its act together I may have to do a video with precise measurements (haven't used those gauges in years) that explains the physics of compression nuts and tolerances... Earlier (first) post: I paid extra for the version with the internal pump to push the dehumidified water someplace else. However, the supplied compression nut, when the supplied hose is inserted through the nut onto the dehumidifier's nipple - that the compression nut should screw onto, no longer reaches the screws. Either the nipple ring is mis-machined to be too large a circumference when the hose is attached to pass the nut, or the hose is too thick - causing the same issue, or a combination of both bad engineering on the nipple or the hose. I called tech support today and after the insulting, "no one else is having that issue" reply (I am a retired engineer - am guessing most buyers are simply switching to gravity option... I on the other hand want what I paid for); the tech person is sending me another compression nut - that unless the one I originally got on the dehumidifier was known not to work but shipped anyway - will likely not fix the issue. If you search enough for this issue, you will discover the issue is referenced in the manual for a different ALORAIR dehumidifier - the recommended solution there stated for the user to find a different (thinner walled?) hose on your own... IF the shipped compression nut fixes the issue, I will post that here and change the rating. BTW, if you view ratings in reverse chronological order (newest first), it seems to me that ALORAIR may have a serious QC issue in their product engineering? ... show more

  • Skeptically Optimistic
Style: Sentinel HDi90
This unit replaces a SaniDry CX that ran out of refrigerant after 4 years. Folks should know that most crawlspace dehumidifiers do not have service ports for refrigerant, making them throw away items. I also have a 2,000 sq. ft. crawlspace, and most commercial grade dehumidifiers that are serviceable in terms of refrigerant handle around 1,300 sq. ft. Wanting to get at least 5 years from my next $1,000 + disposable dehumidifier, I went with the HDi90, and, after reading some other customer comments, purchased the Assurion warranty for backup. I like that the HDi90 is much more serviceable than the SaniDry, certainly easier to take apart for cleaning and maintenance. The unit did not come with a manual, but I was prepared for that. I am using AlorAir's website community forum to ask questions about the unit, and so far responses have been OK, but slow. The picture shows I have it installed in the corner, draining into the nearby sump pit (we live on the edge of a flood plain). The exhaust pointed to the open part of the crawlspace. I purchased the remote control, which is mounted outside the crawlspace door in the garage. I gave the remote 4 stars b/c it is overpriced and cheap plastic for what you get. I hope AlorAir will make their crawlspace line wifi capable to match the wifi humidistats I use to monitor temp and humidity. So far I am impressed with how quickly it brought the humidity down. Right now it is very humid where I live, with plenty of rain. The humidistat monitor furthest from the AlorAir shows a repeating pattern of the unit running for 20 minutes (bringing the humidity down to 3% below the set point), then shutting down for an hour. Very much like an A/C thermostat with a wide swing value. The SaniDry was good, but not this efficient. Why skeptically optimistic? There is no distributor for AlorAir anywhere near me. AlorAir appears to run everything out of China, with brick and mortar locations in California, the UK, and Australia. They are not registered with the BBB, and there are two complaints that have been marked as resolved. ... show more
