We live in a very humid coastal area and were struggling to get the indoor humidity under control. Before using this dehumidifier, this room was measuring 71% humidity, even with the air conditioning running. I was honestly impressed by the difference. After running the dehumidifier, the hygrometer in the same area dropped to 51% humidity. I included before-and-after photos because the numbers really speak for themselves. Beyond the reading on the hygrometer, the room simply feels more comfortable and less damp. This has made a much bigger difference than I expected and I’m extremely pleased with the performance so far and only in just a few hours. I have emptied the larger tank twice today! Not because it’s small (it’s pretty large) but it’s just because the room was so humid. It’s really done well. The only drawback is that it does make a little noise but it’s worth it for the results. We had another basic dehumidifier and it didn’t make a dent with our humidity levels. The other nice thing is that it is on wheels, so you can move it around without too much struggle on a vinyl floor. If you live somewhere with high humidity or have a room that your AC struggles to keep dry, this is absolutely worth considering. I know it’s a bit pricey but it’s worth it considering it does the job well and I don’t have to be as stressed that mold will build up.

Competitively priced, acceptable sound (not too loud as some reviews mentioned, but my unit is 4500 sq foot size model for large home and basement applications, and it’s in our basement) Works SUPER EFFICIENTLY, we empty it 2 times every day and our basement is at a walkout level meaning 1 of 4 cement walls is not underground. With all the rain we’ve had in MI this year it was reported that we had 5” of rain during the month of June alone which is much higher than MI normal June rainfall calculations. However, on Saturday July 24 there was a torrential rain storm with 4 tornadoes to surrounding towns between 10 and 40 miles surrounding my town and in the 25 years I’ve lived in my home which has heavily wooded and hilly topography in our subdivision where the home lots average 1/2 acre, we had so much rain it was unbelievable. It was reported to be 4” of rain in just under 45 minutes of time. My back lot which is hilly and wooded had a 3 foot-wide swale of water rushing across my property, even going uphill at times to finally be redirected and emptied into a huge culvert running under the side street on my property’s western border. I have a corner lot and that rushing water was truly shocking to observe! My dehumidifier has been operating just AWESOME keeping up with all our surrounding soggy yard from on top of our grass, but also underground as well. Our soil also contains a lot of clay, making run-off and soil reabsorption even more of a challenge this year. My unit arrived within the estimated delivery expectations and even though the box had an area on one corner where the box was smashed in a bit, the dehumidifier was extremely well packaged so thankfully there was no damage to our unit. My husband assembled the parts and wheels with ease and he reported that it was easy to set up for your individual personalized setting choices as well. This dehumidifier comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty, but if you register your unit online at hOmeLabs.com website you qualify for an additional 6 months of Warranty coverage through the hOmeLabs manufacturer. Additionally, you have 30 days after purchase to decide if you would like to purchase any additional third-party warranty coverage as well. What has me on the fence regarding buying additional product coverage is two-fold. First, one of the third-party insurers starts their 2-years Warranty beginning on the date of the product purchase, so hence; their coverage runs concurrently with the manufacturer warranty which in my opinion is stupid AND in the other third-party insurer coverage it is not “clearly stated,” nor can anyone answer my question about who pays the “return shipping” fees if this product has to be sent out for repairs and if I’m recalling correctly I seem to remember that this dehumidifier weighs about 30 to 40 pounds. So if it’s the homeowner who has to pay return shipping fees to get it to someplace to be repaired those return costs will be exorbitant, so probably not worth buying additional extended warranty coverage. But it’s available to buy if the customer chooses too. Overall I’m extremely impressed and pleased at the functioning of this dehumidifier, I’m just hoping it’s going to keep operating this efficiently for several years. We take care of our products so if you do the required maintenance and keep the filters washed and cleaned as directed it should last for many seasons. In Michigan I only have to run it during the months when my furnace isn’t in use since the months that my furnace runs totally keeps any potential dampness from Spring rains or Winter snowfall dampness from developing in my basement. I do highly recommend this product as we’ve had it in use around 3 weeks to date and not a speck of wetness, or any damp smells or musty odors at all can be identified at all…. And I have a nose like a hawk when it comes to noticing anything like that in my lower level PERIOD. So far, so good! Great purchase all around!!! It’s built for large 4500 sq foot areas but obviously it also is working totally and equally efficient inside my basement cedar closet too, so perfect for small spaces in my very large sq foot overall basement space!!!

My old dehumidifier "died" and I needed a new one for my 1500 sq. ft. basement. I did a lot of research before purchasing this unit. It checked off all the boxes of quiet, efficient and probable long term reliability. As per the instructions, when the unit arrived it suggested that you leave the unit sitting upright for 24 hours before starting. That done, I used a short length of garden hose to run the condensate to drain. The unit was able to drop the humidity 12% in a 24 hour period in my 1500 sq. ft. basement. Its' operation is quiet, particularly so for a 50 pint dehumidifier running on turbo mode (fan is going faster). Even quieter turning off turbo mode. Then about 2 days later, after first starting it running, I noticed the unit had shut itself off for no reason. Thing is the bucket had filled and the unit, as it should with a full bucket, shut itself off. My problem with that was, I was running the condensate to drain using a garden hose to do so AND I had observed condensate water trickling out of the hose going to drain. So, some condensate was going to drain and some was going to the bucket. Not acceptable and you may be wondering why I gave this product 5 stars and not 0 or 1. Please read on. I immediately contacted (email) customer service and in a very timely manner, they responded. This was about 10 or 12 days ago. Basically they wanted to be sure the unit was setup correctly... level, no kinks in the drain hose, drain hose is running "down hill", basic stuff. So just to be sure, I checked the setup again and everything was as it should be. They also suggested that I very slightly tilt the unit back a bit which I did. That (the tilt) seemed to slow down some of the condensate going to the bucket but didn't stop it. At their request I did send some photos of the setup and, after seeing them, they agreed everything was setup correctly. Now, here's why I didn't take off any stars. Customer Service is superb and exemplary. They sent me a new unit, with no charge of any kind to replace the one I have. The new unit works great with no issues. So, I didn't take off any stars because: 1/ every manufacturer on the planet makes a "lemon" every now and then; 2/ HomeLabs stood behind their product and sent me a new one and did so without hassle and the problem was solved in a very timely manner. Cudos to Homelabs (particularly Jay) for great customer service. Bottom line, I highly recommend this unit based on how well it does its' job and the great, hassle free, customer service.

The first unit that came to my home was not in an shipping box, but had been sent out in the manufacturer's box alone. This was a little surprising as I thought something mechanical should be protected better than that. When I opened the box, I noticed that one of the wheels was not attached to the bottom at all. Also, the float that is located in the collector bucket, to signal when the bucket is full, was detached on one side (broken). I called the customer service number provided, and without hesitation, they sent me a new dehumidifier. (This time it was in an outer shipping box). (They didn't want me to ship the other unit back...they said just keep it or dispose of it). This unit has been working perfectly for about a month now. It takes a lot of moisture out of the air quickly and thoroughly and is pretty quiet. I am happy with it. UPDATE: June 2018. I am happy with this product with one big issue: it frosts up A LOT! I have owned 3 other dehumidifiers (different brands) and I’ve never had this occur. I have to keep an eye on it so it doesn’t try to operate while frozen which would kill it I’m sure. It’s not in a cold location so not sure why this is happening. The only thing I can see is that the filter, which looks well made, doesn’t allow enough air in to circulate in the back of the unit. Not sure but if someone can shed some light on this and how to alleviate, would be great. UPDATE 3-2019 I think I figured out how to mitigate the freezing up issue...I had controls set to “continual” and, apparently, this was causing the problem. Turned off cont and no freezing since. Unit cycles on and off rather frequently, but so far this hasn’t bothered me too much. We’ll see how things go when the weather gets hot and humid. So far, this seems to be working. 👍

Very pleased to report this hOmeLabs dehumidifier is one year and one month out of warranty, but is still pulling filling the 1.8 gallon receptacle every twenty hours or so. Just as it has been doing - every day for over three years - without a break except for periodic, nearly effortless filter cleaning. As our home is half-contained in a hillside, black mold used to be a real issue for us. Not any more. I purchased this on the strength of its Amazon reviews, and I’m pleased to be able to add my own strong endorsement. It just works, day after day. There are two minor negatives. First, the unit is loud. Not jet engine loud, but possessed of a hum loud enough to be heard, if faintly, even through a wall with 12 inches of dead air space. Second, it generates a good deal of radiant heat. The room where it is located is easily 10 degrees F warmer than the remainder of our home, and in the summer, it can be 15 degrees. But these are excusable faults, and largely to be expected. It does what we need it to do. It's still a bit amazing to empty all that water from the unit every day, knowing all the problems that much humidity has caused in the past. So this is a an unqualified endorsement. Even if it died tomorrow, we will have gotten our money’s worth. (Update January 18, 2023) It’s now Just over FIVE years of constant use, and our hOmeLabs is still running perfectly. Or, it is at least still doing its job well. I don’t know it’s still as efficient or effective. But it still fills the water disposal unit to capacity just as quickly and reliably. It’s minor failings are now almost endearing quirks; certainly, they are long forgiven ones. This is an exceptional product, and we will definitely buy another one when ours, at length, finally dies. (Update August 1, 2024) Well, after 6.5 years of essentially uninterrupted use, it finally gave out. The fan still runs but the condenser is kaput. We purchased this in November, 2017. It ran 24/7 until mid-July, 2024. That’s 79 months. Absolutely outstanding performance and durability. We have, of course, replaced it with another hOmeLabs dehumidifier.

*Five Years Later Edit* It works fantastically still nearly 5 years later. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. *Original Review* First id like to point out a few things wrong about other reviews. The radiator/condenser fin damage seen in one of my photo's is a perfectly normal occurrence during assembly. If it bothers you or is so bad it affects the machine, or even if you do it yourself by accident, there is a simple fix. Get a condenser comb. I know they are available at Lowe's and Autozone, but they are also available on Amazon and a few other stores near you most likely. Check home improvement stores or auto parts stores for it. The comb's are easy to use and figure out how to use. Id also like to point out that a running condenser is not silent. On any appliance. If you run this device (if it isnt defective) next to a refridgerator, the fridge condenser will be louder. My mini-fridge is about the same volume when its condenser runs. If you can hear it from several rooms away, you have a defective unit probably, and an exchange is what you need. h0meLabs has excellent customer service. I left it out of the box, upright and unplugged for 24 Hours as the box says (the oils in the condenser may have shifted during transport, or may have even been laid on its side, which is why it must be upright for so long). I put a drain hose (Lowe's sells 6 ft female/female leader hoses for $8). If you are using continuous, unless you want to constantly have to lug a bucket to a bathtub or outside or whatever, its going to be heavy when full, hence the drain hose. I cut the 6 ft hose down to about 1 foot give or take an inch. The hose leads into a "Little Giant 554425 VCMA-20ULS Condensate Removal 1/30 HP Pump with Safety Switch", which is connected to a Vinyl tube that leads into my bathroom. The pump is like $50 and a wise investment. Its optional, but you can wire the secondary safety switch to a water alarm (ive seen them in the sink/shower aisle at walmart) which will sound if the pump safety feature kicks in, warning you to remove the hose so that it goes into the bucket, or else you will have a wet floor. I also have it more than 8 inches from a wall on all sides, even though it only requires 8. Im guessing because the humidity reading might be off if it is in a corner. Alot of people are saying the house thing is flimsy, but it really isnt as long as you arent a brute with it. Other people have said that it doesnt drain out the hose and that it keeps filling the bucket. Well, I used a level to make sure my floor was flat. If you have it on carpet, but a piece of plywood or something flat and sturdy (not cardboard) and make sure its as level as possible. If it isn't level, the float that makes it go into the hose will not function correctly and you will have a full bucket eventually. Below is my actual review based on usage. I will update it at certain milestones to tell about whether or not it is still chugging along as efficient as it was out of the box. First Hour: The first hour i continuously checked the bucket (turning it off first) in order to see if it was definitely going into the hose, and i remove the hose to see if it was wet (it was), so it was definitely collecting moisture. In the first hour alone it brought my house down from 86, to about 45-50. First Day: I already know it is better than my old DH (Hisense brand) because the old one was lying on the display. I was about to unplug the old one to plug in the new one and the humidity was allegedly 32. When i plugged the new one in, it went from 50 all the way to near 90 really darn quick. Then it slowly decreased down to 33, which took about 3 hours. First Week: I have definitely noticed a difference between my 2 dehumidifiers and this one is definitely better than my old one. Using the continuous function and a drain hose into a condensate pump, this machine has been running nonstop since I first plugged it in, and the bucket is as dry as it was when I first opened the box. To all those that are saying this function doesnt work and its not going into the hose, double check to make sure that the dehumidifier is as level as possible, and the drain hose is going horizontal and at a downward angle. If there is any "Up" angle in the hose, the water wont drain properly. It uses gravity, so the only directions it can go is down or horizontal.

Update 06/09/21 After using the dehumidifier for one partial summer, I kept the unit empty and unplugged in my basement over fall/winter/spring. My basement is finished and doesn't get any colder than about 61 degrees in winter. Keep in mind during this time I was not using the dehumidifier, it was empty and unplugged. This year as the weather/basement got warmer and more humid I plugged it back in to use it. It runs and makes noise, but no longer removes humidity from the air. $240 is a lot of money to pay for a device that works one season. For that I am changing my rating to one star. I purchased this to replace a 70 pt dehumidifier that dies on me after only like two years use. I have a finished basement that is about 25 by 30 but is not temperature controlled. It tends to get humid so I like to run a dehumidifier. I purchase the 50 pt or 4500 sq ft size model of this homelab dehumidifier. I have the humidistat on it set to 45. It does a good job of taking the moisture out of my basement. It brought the humidity down from about 65% do to the 45% range that I set it at. I think it is quieter than my old model, but I attribute this mostly to having a lower cfm fan so it is not moving as much air. The tank on this model is slightly smaller than my last model. It will fill up with a 1.5-2 days of running in the basement. My complaint is that the build quality is less than the previous models I have owned. It is made out of very soft flexible plastic instead of hard rigid plastic. You have to be super careful taking the filter screen off to clean it and replacing the tank after dumping the water. I will update on how well it holds up. Pros: 1. humidistat works seems accurate and shuts off when targeted humidity is reached 2. Seems to do a good job taking the moisture down from 65% down to 45% range it is set at. 3. Quiet when it runs. You do hear compressor more than fan with lower cfm, but not unpleasant 4. Easy to access filter on the back of machine 5. Blows the air out the side of the machine instead of out of the top Cons: 1. the water collection tank is smaller than one on my past model of this size. It fills up within 1.5-2 days 2. Doesnt seem to reduce humidity as fast as my last humidifier but I attribute that to lower cfm on fan 3. Fan only has two speeds low and high 4. Made of soft plastic that flexes and threatens to break when removing filter screen. Water tank can be a little awkward to remove since it flexes and light weight of machine means you have to hold machine with one hand to pull/push water tank out/into machine Overall I am happy with the machine and try to delicate when removing the tank or cleaning the screen. I am hoping they will hold up to extended use. The fan speeds are slower so lower cfm which takes a little longer to remove the moisture in air, but makes for a quieter machine. Although with only two fan speeds you have less choice. It has been bringing the humidity down to the 45% level I have set it in my medium size basement. I will update later on how well the soft plastic holds up to use. At this point in time I would order this humidifier again or recommend it to a friend.

We bought two of these units in the spring of 2018. We run both about 12 hours/day during the humid spring and summer months in a 1,400 sq ft renovated brick row house in a major east coast city. Our place is right on the harbor. The humidity level here ranges above 90 percent for part of the year. After eight years one unit finally failed this month, July 2025; the other unit is still working. We run both units out of outlets that have local surge protectors, and there’s a commercial level whole house Siemens surge unit on the main electric panel. The only thing we’ve ever done to maintain these dehumidifiers has been to clean the air filters and occasionally to clean the collection tank. We did pull the plastic cover off the unit that failed just to see if we found anything obvious that could be repaired. Other than some mold on the evaporator, the unit was completely clean inside. In looking at the internals, the material and build quality seems excellent—copper piping, good brazing, heavy duty components, etc. Better than we expected for an electric device that everyone says is designed for a useful life of one-two years. 😊 The bottom line is that both of these units seem to have outlived the Home Labs dehumidifiers from the majority of other reviewers by 6-7 years. So why have our units lasted for eight years plus when the norm is apparently one or two years? I have no idea, but given that every home electric device now has at least one microprocessor, including dehumidifiers, and given how sensitive microprocessors are to power supply fluctuations, I’m wondering if our whole house surge protector and/or the local outlet surge protectors may have been a major factor. All in all, we’ve been pleased with Home Labs hardware and level of support. The only time we’ve had reason to reach out was recently when we asked if Home Labs had any info on how best to remove the machine’s outer shell (they don’t). But they were easy to reach and answered our questions in a professional way. Just wanted to share this since most of the feedback on home dehumidifiers from Home Labs and for that matter any other dehumidifier brand is so much more negative than our experience has been.
