Important Tips If you have a lot of minerals in your tap water, it is recommended to use distilled water, filtered water, or a Crane demineralization filter (HS-3161). Place humidifier on an elevated surface and not on carpet, towel, or sensitive wood furniture. Cleaning and Storage Frequently cleaning your humidifier is very important. Crane recommends emptying the water in the basin daily, making sure you pour away from the fan air-outlet. Disinfect the water basin and tank weekly by using a white vinegar and fresh water solution, let sit for 30 minutes, then rinse. For convenience, the Crane Descaler solution HS-1933 is also available. It is important to disinfect and dry completely before storage. • Good value, attractive design, works well
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I like this humidifier. It's relatively compact since the design is more vertical than horitzontal and the design doesn't screen "I'm an ugly humidifier". It's very easy to 'assemble' out of the box and to refill the tank. The top piece easily rotates 360 degrees so that you can point the steam in whichever direction you'd like. I can't imagine using this on the highest setting. I use my all white model on a low-medium setting (there are no clear markings as to what level it's on since it's a simple turn the dial for more steam set-up) and it easily lasts 14+ hours with extra water left in the tank. I also do not have to fill the tank more than 1/2 full to run it through a 10 hour night. So in my experience, I think I could run this for 20+ hours at the setting I like if I filled up the entire tank. It does create a very low noise that I equate to the volume of a ceiling fan on medium or high. It's basically white noise and doesn't bother me at all. It's much quieter than a stand-up room fan or a window-mounted AC. Unless you need absolute quiet, the sound from this won't bother you. However, when turned on, this humidifier does have a small, green light that illuminates the inside of the humidifier slightly. It's not very bright, but it's definitely more noticeable than the numbers on your digital alarm clock. I want to note that I ordered this model in the solid white for myself and the white/blue for my boy friend. If you scroll down within the profile of this item and view the large photo of all the colors side by side, you will see that the dial on the white/blue model is different than the dial on the other models. It works just as well, but it's fairly obvious that the white/blue version is an older model (with the only difference being the dial). I've also found that the white/blue model emits more steam (heavier jet of steam) so that I barely turn the dial at all (I put it straight up as if it's at 12 on a clock face). If you want to run this humidifier for long periods of time and are worried about the water running out, don't order the white/blue model because it produces more steam and therefore depletes the water level sooner. The all white model is more conservative with the water. However, if you have a larger space, then I think the heavier steam flow of the white/blue is helpful. For reference I use the all white model in an approx 11' x 13' bedroom and the white/blue in an 11' x 16' room. In both rooms, the humidifier does a great job of adding humidity without ever making the room feel damp. ... show more

  • Great Product That Does It's Job Well With Just A Few Things To Look Out For
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
My wife and I purchased this because the air at home is very dry which really aggravates my sinuses leading to sometimes intense pressure and congestion. I wanted one that did not require replacement filters or high maintenance. This product stood out to us because of it's cool tear drop design and high number of positive reviews. I have to say, it's been great. Using it nightly and during the day in my office, I've slept better, haven't woken up congested and next to no sinus pressure issues outside of significant weather changes. I love that it's super quiet, has a gentle glowing LED light to let you know it's on and has water in it's tank. Speaking of which, I think it's also great that it turns red and shuts off the function when the water runs out. Noise level is really quiet. I hear a gentle whirring which is actually relaxing to me. I barely hear it. The only other sounds that I hear is when water is being directed into the base to keep the supply flowing but it's not so loud that it's disturbing at all. Please be advised that if you hear a dripping sound, your tank may not be 100% secured onto the base the way that it needs to be. It's super easy to fill up and to clean. Simply taking the mist spout off, lifting the tank up to empty and clean and emptying out the base to let it dry takes all of 2 minutes. I rinse mine and dry with a paper towel or other dry cloth just to keep any film or mold from developing. One small thing I need to mention is regarding the red rubber O-Ring under the tanks screw cap. Mine came fully inserted from the factory but somehow came loose and despite inserting it correctly with the ridged side facing up, it would not allow me to reinstall it into the underside of the cap. It's as if the diameter of the ring was too large. After several days of trying to squeeze it in and thinking I had it only to have the other side pop out, I decided to cut a small section of the ring off. Now the ring stays inside of the cap without coming out and all is good. I do not necessarily recommend anyone else do this and to be honest, I was able to use the unit without any issues from not having the rubber ring installed at all. It's there for a reason so my recommendation is if yours comes out and won't go back in, just order a replacement tank cap with the ring pre-installed. This was just my solution to what I was dealing with at the time. All in all, I'd like to say Great Job to Crane and I would recommend this product to my friends and family that could benefit from having a small profile humidifier for their needs. ... show more

Color: Clear & White Size: 1 Gallon
I'vw been sick and didn't expect to get this until the 29th. Got here 5 days early and in protective packaging. Opened it right away and set it up. It works fine. This is my second Crane humidifier. Had the last one several years and used it nightly. I am very impressed, not only with the product but with the care with which it got to me. I order many things on line and that is often not the case. Thanks for doing a great job. To those with sinus issues...get one for yourself. Life changing. ... show more

  • Really nice!
Color: White Size: 1 Gallon
Here's my skinny. It's really pretty good. Very quiet. Yes, there is a small high pitch whine, but only if you're real up close; and I would not recommend having any humidifier up that close. I don't think it's that good for you. It's super quiet (I'm noise sensitive). An occasional gurgle but not enough to bother me (they all do it). I have the humidity set for just enough to see a steady stream. About 1/2 way? I live In a cold house with a supplemental oil enclosed electric radiator to warm up my bedroom. Cold mist makes it feel colder. This unit is really adjustable! I can set it just enough to give me humidity without making me cold. Here's the lowdown from my pediatrician 20 years ago to today, add 1/4 tsp bleach to Your tank when you fill it. No germs, no bacteria, And no CLEANUP! The bleach is so minimal, It does you (babies too) no harm. Google it. Bleach is the most harmless, oldest, easiest, and cheapest form of water purification. I have done this for 20 years with my children with never a problem. Just rinse and swish, a 1/4 teaspoon of bleach and refill the tank. You're good to go. All humidifiers get some discoloration over time; A slight yellowish tinge on the floater, it's no big deal. Doesn't harm you, doesn't affect performance. It runs about 36+- hrs on one tank at about Halfway. I line up the dots on the button with the up icon on the front, that way I remember the setting and it 's enough humidity for me. I use regular tap water, it refills and cleans nicely from my bathroom sink. The sink holds it and I just hold it a little to fit under the running tap. Yes, it drips a little when you remove it from the base, but so did my old one (another brand). I don't know, big deal. Wipey, wipey with a cloth, so what. I really think people just want everything to be so effortless. So it's not, really! Is everything supposed to be perfect, come on. The teardrop shape is nice, but yeah it is a bit tricky to carry. But that's the tradeoff for the pleasing shape. Kind of a partially functional handle. If that's your sticking point, easy carry, then this might not be for you. Personally, so far, the pro's outweigh the con's. Price is good. Shipping was fast. How long will it last? Who knows? A long time, I hope. I'm really happy with this product so far. Update: Dec. 2016 I've always packed it carefully in original box in a box. Unpacked it this year, set it up, dead as a doornail. Nothing, nada, zippo. I think it's the knob, no reassuring click, no light. Tried another outlet, nothing. I guess 5 years and that's it. I bought the same color but the new 5301W Model. It works but much cheaper build overall inside and out! Kept the old one for spare tank and top. But I probably won't be able to use them. They really changed it. Design wise, cheaper lighter plastic and maybe a bit smaller. Idk why they messed with it, it was great. This ones works, its quiet, just not as sturdy. We'll see how long it lasts🤔 ... show more

  • I love the cool mist!
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
I really like this thing! I wanted to get a humidifier for my room because i noticed that when i wake up in the morning, my throat and nasal passage often feels insanely dry. Also a lot of times i have sip water while i'm trying to get to sleep, because my nasal passage felt so dry that I couldn't swallow. I like this particular humidifier in that the mist is instant and it's cool - it's also such a fine mist that you can put your hand 4-5 inches away directly in line of the output, and your hand won't get all drippy with condensation. This means it's such a fine mist that you don't really have to worry about everything around it becoming wet and drippy if you run it for a long time. This is particularly great if you're resting this on wood based surface, or it's placed in such a way that it's got other things around it. I put it on my night stand next to my lamp and i put my phone and my handheld game system right next to this/near where the mist falls down/settles without any fear of my phone, game system, or even my lamp shade getting wet. I also like that this has such a large container, so i can fill it and let it run for quite a while. On a completely full container, I believe I can run it for over 12 hours on highest setting. On 3rd of a tank (bottom third), it can go all night until morning when i get up and turn it off. It also has auto shutdown/stop setting so when it gets too low in the water, it automatically stops so I don't have to worry about burning or whatever that happens when it gets low on water if I have it running overnight. There is a light inside the tank that tells you its water level (i mean you can see through the water tank but the light also tells you stuff too. Green means it's got plenty of water. When it flashes green and red it means it can still run but it's starting to become low. Red is when it auto shuts off. The light isn't very bright/blinding either, so running this at night when you're trying to sleep won't be an issue. My nightstand is higher than my bed, so even though I have so close by, I don't really notice the light (it helps that the color of the tank is blue so it mutes the green light a lot. This thing also runs very quiet - but you WILL hear some random burbling of water drops. If you have this in a super silent room, you're going to hear it burble. However in my case I have an air purifier that I have running on low 24/7, as well as a fan that I run whenever I'm in the room (so overnight as well) because it's hot during the summer. With those two, there's enough white noise that I don't really register the water burbling. I do still hear it some because it's on my nightstand therefore really close by, but it doesn't cause me to unable to sleep. The water holding thing uses the same kinda mechanism as your toilet water tank - it's basically a stopper that when you put it onto the stand, it raises the stopper to let water through. But instead of pulling at the stopper from the top (like your toilet water tank), the base of the humidifier has one part that sticks up, which forces the stopper to be raised when you have the tank properly placed on it. So far I haven't noticed any leaking problems with mine. If you do have a leaking problem, you should check that there's no leaks in the base itself, and make sure that you're fitting the tank onto the base properly. If it's misaligned, it would easily leak. ... show more

  • Very good for a bedroom/office
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
The good stuff: 1. QUIET! I can't hear it over my computer fans and my computer is not very loud at all. You can definitely sleep with this thing on no prob. 2. Pretty easy to set up. The instructions tell you that you should rinse it out a bit before you use it. 3. Not too big. It's 13-14 inches at the top where the mist comes out. 9 inches wide/deep. Remember it's round. 4. Reasonably priced for what you get. Some of the humidifiers may very well be better than this, but they also cost $200 or more. For the modest price this is wonderful. 5. It doesn't look too 'medical'. A lot of the other ones have that hypochondriac/invalid look to them. This teardrop shape is kinda cool, but not childish. The not so good stuff: 1. You will need to clean it once a week. They tell you to use white vinegar or bleach. NOT soaps or detergents. So anyway, you will be sloshing in the sink/tub at least once a week. 2. The add the convenient little note: 'It is recommended you use distilled or filtered water'. A lot of tap water is 'hard' and there are minerals and things in it. So it will eventually clog up the nebulizer inside this and it won't work right. There will also be a lot of white dust that will result from the minerals as well. 3. Because of #2 I got the optional filter to use. They say to use the filter for 30-40 refills - and you refill it every day. Filter life is approximately 1 month. And it was $12. 4. YOU CANNOT ADD MEDICINES TO THIS THING. MEDICINES ARE FOR VAPORIZERS not humidifiers. 5. The title of this should be changed to ONE GALLON humidifier. The output is 2.3 gallons since it's a mist/vapor. This is definitely misleading to put 2.3 in the title. I did my homework and I knew it was only 1 gallon, but still it's not cool to have that there to make people think this is bigger than it is. 6. THIS IS FOR A SMALL ROOM. Bedroom or office size. Don't get this if you think it will do the living room or kitchen or some bigger room in the house. 7. You have to be careful that you adjust the moisture right. If it is too high then it will get on things and make them wet. If there is wooden furniture around it could ruin their finish. I have mine sitting on a big plastic cutting board. 8. It needs to be on a level surface. You can't sit it on a towel or carpet. There is a vent on the bottom and that would block it. 9. Keep kids and pets away from it. If you have curious kids or critters there could be potential messy disasters in your future. Even though I listed more in the not so good column I think this is a great buy. I just wanted to list the stuff to consider and that isn't mentioned/listed here in the description - or in the promo video. My big concern was noise. We have a Holmes humidifier which is really big and works great, but it's like being next to an airplane. Not even close to reasonable for sleeping. With the dryness of the winter I asked my Doc about sinus stuff. She said that a humidifier is essential and some saline nasal spray. So I needed one that could run while I was sleeping. This one is ideal for me. Just remember to consider the stuff you need to do to MAINTAIN a humidifier. Some of the reviews here were complaining about white dust and that things got too wet - both of these things are clearly explained in the instructions. If you want one that will be sitting there and you don't have to do anything then this ain't it. But for one of the super duper ones you will need to drop some serious dough. If you don't maintain the humidifier it will not last. ... show more

  • Chinese junk lasts about 1 year.
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
While most reviews are going to say good things because they were written within a couple months of purchase, I'm writing this review 14 months after purchase. In the first year or so, we loved this humidifier. It was quiet, adjustable, and very easy to use. We even carried the full container of water by the obvious handle that the instructions say not to, and that others have complained about. The handle is plastic-welded or glued to the clear water container, so I think the manufacturer is not confident enough in their design to trust the weld to hold the weight of 2 gallons of water. Worked fine for us. But after about 12 months, two modes of failure appeared. The first is that the water regulator float has a little spring in it. For some reason, the spring started rusting, and now coats the entire vaporizer area with a reddish film that we have to clean every refill. Why they didn't use stainless steel, I'll never know. Second, and the most important, is that now when we turn the unit on, the fan vibrates and buzzes very loudly. There's no way our 1 year old daughter can sleep with this thing buzzing away (about at the volume of your phone on vibrate while sitting on a coffee table--but constant). For about a month, we resolved the buzz by banging on the base with our hand until the fan settled into a normal, quiet spin. Now, we have to bang on it for 5 minutes or more. And of course the warranty is 12 months. Designed to last 1 year. For nearly $50, I expected more. [UPDATE 4/2013, 16 months] For those who experience the annoying "buzzing" sound I described, I resolved that problem. I took off the base using a long small Phillips screwdriver (I think 4 screws) and used a can of compressed air to blow out the fan area. Apparently, the fan accumulated dust and became imbalanced, causing it to buzz as it spun. You may be able to blow the dust out without taking off the base with a carefully pointed nozzle straw through the slots in the base. Yeah, now that it doesn't buzz any more, we still love the darn thing, but the spring is still rusting and causing the container and bottom bowl to get that red film (and bleach does NOT magically make the rust turn white). Not sure what's going to fail when the spring rusts to pieces. [UPDATE 2/2014, 26 months] Product has all but failed now under very light use (a couple weeks at a time, once or twice a year). The fan buzzes regularly now, although I can temporarily get it quiet by using a can of compressed air blown strategically upward into the vent slots on the bottom. The spring that was rusting has completely broken to pieces now (see my uploaded picture), so the valve in the screw-on lid no longer has a spring to close it when you fill the container and turn it upright. It will mostly close after blubbing out water a couple times due to gravity, but what a mess. So now the routine is to carry the entire unit, base and all, into the bathroom to fill the container, quickly inverting it onto the base, then carrying the whole thing back to the room. This is all caused by a cheap fan and a steel (not stainless) spring that is designed to be immersed in water--and obviously bound to fail. This would be a good humidifier if the manufacturer had any sense of quality. Look for another brand if you want something that will last. ... show more

  • Read the instruction manual first
Color: Blue & White Size: 1 Gallon
I purchased the Crane cool mist humidifier in Dec'10 and have used it, with great success, for many months. With all the negative reviews (about 20%) I almost didn't purchase this machine. But I'm glad I did, because it works really well for what it is: a mid size/capacity humidifier. First of all: ***this humidifier has a 2.3 gallon per day maximum output, with a .9 gallon tank.*** Amazon's initial title for this (and many other humidifiers) mentions daily output capacity rather than tank size... this may be confusing, although the correct specs are prominently listed on the Amazon page - fifth bullet point in the "product features" section. As for Crane (the manufacturer), their package clearly states a 2.3 gallon daily output, and .9 gallon tank size... The reviewers complaining about the "misleading name" should try emailing Amazon suggesting a title change on their website... instead of writing a 1 or 2 star review of the product. That would be more helpful and more fair. As for the product itself: A few buyers obviously received defective machines; this has to be expected on some level with any manufacturer. But having read over the negative reviews, I realized that most of the complaints were due to improper use of the machine. It is essential to read the instruction manual and use the machine as intended by design. Doing so will avoid the pitfalls described by most of these 1-2 star review writers. For reference, I have addressed their most common complaints below: 1) White dust buildup in the room: use filtered or distilled water. This is important if you have hard tap water. (85% of American homes do.) I run my tap water through a Brita filter; the exchange ion resin lowers the concentration of calcium carbonates, accordingly softening tap water. It also helps keep the humidifier cleaner by removing organic impurities, and I have had no white dust buildup. ***If your water is particularly high in mineral content, you should use distilled water, or else opt for a vaporizer-type (humidifying) machine, which creates water vapor free of white dust.*** 2) Limited effectiveness: you are trying to humidify too large a room. In my 500 square foot living room level the machine helps a little; in my 150 square foot bedroom the machine is more than adequate. 3) Height of machine: the manual directs you to put the humidifier *at least* a few feet off the ground; there's no reason you can't place it even higher up if you wish. Doing so will disperse the mist more effectively. 4) Machine runs out of water: try turning it down to about 2/3 power instead of full power. The machine is practically noiseless at this setting and the water tank if actually filled to the rim will last at least 8-10 hours. 5) Machine makes bubbling noise on high: see #4 above. 6) Wet area forms immediately around humidifier: you have the machine turned up too high for the conditions in your room. This is explained in the instruction manual: you need to make sure the mist isn't falling down onto the surfaces around the machine; otherwise moisture will accumulate on those surfaces. Turn the power dial down until the vapor stream is fully evaporating in the air. 7) Machine leaks: Take care that the water tank fits snugly into place, with no gaps. Also, make sure you have the clear rubber ring that fits inside the tank cap. During my initial setup, this little (1 1/2" diameter) ring came loose and rolled away, and I almost didn't notice.
