Good for the money. The rack does shift a bit on longer rides, but nothing crazy. They could fix that by adding side straps on the single-bike model.

    • Really Does Take Just a Couple Minutes to Set Up

I had been procrastinating on unpacking the box and trying out this bike carrier because I just assumed it would be harder to install than the listing claimed. But when I got my new bike this week and had to take the front wheel off in order to take it home I realized I’d better just do it. So today on my first outing with the new bike, I unpacked the unit with some apprehension. It’s just had the look of something that would be unnecessarily complicated to get right. Happily it wasn’t! The listing claims “seconds to install” and although maybe the second time it would be…the first time it was mere minutes which is def a recommendation. Especially since my off road bike has a different sized frame (wider on the crossbar) but it fit and everything went well. The only off bit is that the bike really has only two attachment points both on the main crossbar of the bike, and you’re meant to use the excess straps to tie it down (esp. to keep the front wheel from moving around too much). It would have been better if there was a method for this part of the tie down. Or extra connectors or something. But all-in-all, I’m happy with how easily it went up, how compact it is once you’re done using it and want to throw it in the back, and how well it kept my bike on my car. This bike rack works great on my Honda HR-V. It’s sturdy and holds my bike securely. It is very quick and easy to install and remove. I do not collapse it when I remove it, as some reviews have stated having issues after folding the supports down.

Proper Fit: It's been over 17 years since I've been on a bike, and I wanted to get fit and loose some weight so I decided to start biking and walking. I needed to get my bike to the riding trails and needed a bike mount, so after reading all the reviews on Amazon and on the Walmart website, I decided to get this one. One of the reviewers stated that you should go to the manufacture's website to ensure a proper fit and I'm going to suggest you do the same. Amazon was correct with it's fit check, but still confirm by going to http://allensportsusa.com/fit-list/. Don't Ride W/it on Your Back: Folded, it was heavier than I was expecting but nothing to worry about I think, unless you are going to lug it around with you for some reason. In the video demonstrating how to used the mount they show the model riding with it on her back. Why would you want to do that instead of just leaving it in your vehicle is beyond me; because the storage bag it comes with is not padded and use draw strings which would become very uncomfortable on your back IMO the longer you ride. There is nothing to secure it to your vehicle (to prevent theft), so store it in your vehicle, instead of leaving it on your vehicle when you go for your bike ride. I wouldn't even bother folding it back up, just place it in there and all you need to do is get it out and mount it once you are back from your ride. Mounted: Once I got it out of the box it was very easy to unfold and mount to both my vehicles, a 4-door sedan and a SUV. The top tube of my bike is slanted instead of horizontal, so I had to mount it in the tie-downs using the top and down tubes To keep the front wheel from spinning and scratching your vehicle you will need to secure it to the mount using either a bungie cord or the excess from bottom strap of the mount. I found that I could lift the bike slightly away from the mount once I had it secured on the tie-downs, so I used a bungee cord to secure it more snuggly to the mount so it doesn't bounce when I'm driving/go over a rough patch of road. I got a three pack of bungee, various lengths (s, m, l) , from the dollar store that did the trick. Folding It: The only issue I have had with it so far is when I get ready to fold it back up. I have to push really hard on the buttons sometimes to get them through their little slots so I can fold the arms. Makes for very sore thumbs. Otherwise great product. May 15: P.S. Make sure the top feet are level with each other. I didn't do that once and I thought the thing was sliding down but it wasn't, it just looked like it. There is a label on the back of the mount that I can be seen in the review mirror of my SUV and it didn't move the whole time I was driving (even over some crazy bumps/rough roads); so that told me the mount was completely/properly secure. But it still freaked me out to see one pad slanted lower than the other, especially when I got on the freeway and needed to go a minimum of 65 mph. I was so happy to see my driveway and when I got you and pulled on it, it could barely move. Again good product. ... show more
