Had my doubts about this rack but went for it anyway, ultimately glad I did. At first we were very disappointed, as we had almost assembled the entire rack and went for the last piece, the vertical support arm, only to find the box was empty! Our rack had arrived missing this crucial piece, making it unusable. I sent a message to Allen via their website with my order number, went out of town and forgot about it. A week later I get a message from someone in our building asking if I ordered a 50 lb package; Allen had shipped a full replacement, no questions asked, this time WITH the vertical support arm. This was unexpected and I was very appreciative for their timely and excellent resolution. The instructions left a lot to be desired but it's not too hard to figure out on your own. I've taken it loaded for two trips on the highway and several around town and everything holds up perfectly. We did forego the front wheel straps as they seemed a little flimsy, opted for bungee cords instead. The other straps (back wheel and bike frame) work well. I love how easy it is to load up the bikes. Also love that the rack folds up vertically without the bikes to get it out of the way. With my car this blocks the trunk from opening but you can't always have your cake and eat it too, it's easy enough to pop it down to get into the trunk. The stem fit perfectly (no give) into the 1 1/4" hitch receiver so I can't comment on the 2" adapter. All in all very sturdy, functional and a great price, excellent customer service. I decided to wait a bit before posting my review of this bike hitch so that I could put it through its paces. In the past couple of weeks, I have transported our two bikes to several locations. The bike rack has performed admirably! Now... I'll add this in. I would NOT rely on the straps that come with the hitch. When I purchased this bike hitch, I also purchased a set of 6 quick release straps. When the straps arrived, I cut each one of them down to about a 1 foot (to 2 foot) lengths and I use 3 straps on each bike in tandem with the straps that come with the hitch. The bikes don't wobble and there seems to be very little movement at all while I'm driving. I would VERY strongly advise getting this rack if, AND ONLY IF, you also purchase a set of straps to use in addition to the factory installed straps. The hitch itself is heavy duty and seems like it will last me a good long time. OH... one negative thing... the screw down straps that allow you to position them in different locations on the upright bar don't screw down very tightly. Just another reason why you need to buy a set of 6 tie down straps to use in conjunction with the manufacturers straps. Update after trip to Florida: We took a 2000 mile (round trip) journey to Ft. Myers beach this past month and took 2 bikes along with us. This Easy Load Deluxe hitch worked flawlessly. I never felt worried one bit that the bikes were in danger of coming off. Of course, if you read my review above, you will know that I used 6 extra straps... three extra straps per bike in order to hold the bikes in place. I would not recommend using the straps that come with this hitch by themselves. I don't believe they would hold the bike in place. But, by using the extra straps, this hitch worked like a CHAMP! ... show more

We just used this for the first time traveling from NJ to the OBX in NC. The trip is about 475 miles each way. The rack worked fine for the most part. It fits tight in the 2" receiver with no wobble. The bikes (both Trek bikes) fit well and seemed secure. I have to admit, I did add a small bungee in addition to the strap on the rear wheels. Not sure it was needed but it made me feel better. I also added a "safety bungee" to keep the bike to attached to the rack just in case one of the rubber tie downs failed. Same philosophy as the safety chains on a trailer. Again, probably not necessary but it made me feel better. I gave this 4 stars as there is no locking the bikes on, the rubber on the upper tie down cradle split but it still works fine, and lastly the lock for slide adjustment for the front wheels on one side stripped without hardly any tightening. This is a very simple fix but still frustrating it happened on the very first time I used the rack. In the end, even with the minor issues, the bikes road very smoothly and securely. I already reviewed this product once but feel compelled to add an update. Had no complaints with the first 2 short trips we used it for. Ease of use, and the fact that we could tip the bikes away from the the hatch to open it without removing them was great. However, we just finished taking our bikes on a 12 hour trip to the beach and back. On the return trip the rivet that held the strap securing the frame of the outer bikes broke loose allowing the front of the bike to drop down to the road causing damage to the handlebar and gear shift. Fortunately the strap securing the wheel held or the whole bike would have come off. I called Amazon support the next day and they were great. They handled everything to my satisfaction-I elected to try the same bike rack again hoping the first failure was a fluke. We may, however, add a security strap in addition just in case. ... show more

We used this bike rack for two mountain bikes on spring break this year. We drove 2000+ miles, all of it on relatively smooth paved roads. It worked really well! On the down side, the rack has a tilt feature that is supposed to allow you to open the back hatch door of your vehicle. We are NOT able to open the rear door on our Tahoe even with only one bike on the rack (mounted on the side of the rack away from the vehicle) - this is not a deal breaker for us because of the really low cost of the rack. We did use backup straps on the bikes tires after reading other reviews - this was not really a big deal. I'll update this review if the bike rack appears to have low durability as we use it more. ... show more

I was worried about reviews that said this hiych mounted carrier wobbles but as soon as I put it together and monuted a bike my fears were put to rest. I am using it on a 1 1/4 hitch and the anti wobble bolt works great. Easy to assemble and I have not used additional straps as some have suggested. Only downfall is that I did break one of the plastic strap holders in the upright center holder but breaking it does not seem to effect the security of the strap. Glad I purchased it. I do wonder if it will wobble if I use a hitch lock instead of the anti wobble bolt but for now it is super secure and does not bounce or sway. I took a video of it at highway speed but can't see where to attach. ... show more

This rack is heavy and bulky. Everything involved with this product is a hassle, from the assembly, to the attaching/detaching the bicycles, to folding up and breaking down. My husbands and my bike cannot fit at the same time no matter which way we try (a road bike and mountain bike). The whole frame shakes around in the hitch, jostling whichever bike we have attached. The hardware is poor quality and it has started rusting already in less than a month. Unfortunately missed the time frame to return this product (by 4 days). I read the reviews before purchasing. Some reviews talked about 'wobble' with the hitch. I have a drawtite hitch on my 2002 Toyota Tachoma. When you insert the hitch there are 2 holes in the receiver. Install the bolt in the hole towards the cab. There is no wobble, and the hitch is tight and secure with no issues. I did crack both 'frame secure' plastic pieces when securing a road and gravel bike to them. It was 35 deg F when I was attaching our bikes. That in no way has any effect on the functionality of the straps. I contacted Allen to let them know and they agreed to send me new ones! We have carried out bikes over 200 miles on this rack with no problems. I live on a dirt road with lots of washboard and neither cycle has loosened up . Now, I drive slowly on the road to prevent problems from occurring. Good price for a very nice carrier! ... show more
