  • DO NOT LET BAD REVIEWS KEEP YOU FROM BUYING THIS BIKE RACK
Style: Deluxe
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT let bad reviews on this product keep you from ordering this bike rack. Racks at bike shops are $250-400. I read reviews about how this rack didn't fit into the hitch sleeve and how it was loose and how the bikes swayed around. NOT TRUE! Anyone with half a brain can install this into a receiving hitch. You just have to make sure the bolt is tight and you may actually have to use some muscle and do a little wiggling to get the bolt through the hole. But not any more than you would a trailer hitch. My point is: this hitch doesn't just clip in and snap on. If it did it would sway and be loose. My wife and I have used this rack to travel with both of our bikes and we use a bungie cord around the front wheel just to make sure it doesn't move. This rack is well worth the money. I would definitely recommend. I bought this item with my own money, this is not an endorsed review. I just couldn't believe the bad reviews I read that almost kept me from buying this. And when I installed it I thought to myself, "The people making bad reviews probably shouldn't even be riding a bike, much less trying to drive a car!!" Perhaps I'm being a little too harsh, but no more than the harsh reviews that are simply inaccurate. ... show more

  • Is your time or money more important?
Style: Deluxe
What other people are saying about the rack not bring right inside of the hitch is 100% correct. While tightening the bolt thru the hitch will stop the rack from swaying side to side, the rack will still bounce up and down tremendously which I just cannot see being safe to carry bikes on like that. So long story short I have the luxury of being a machinist and fixed that problem myself. I have no idea why they wouldn't just make the bike rack to an exact 2" that will fit into a 2" hitch with no slop, but there is about a .105" gap when placed into the hitch. So to fix this I took a piece of stock steel and ground it down to exactly .105" (105 thousandth of an inch) countersunk some screws then tapped holes in the frame. I've heard of people just putting shims inside the gap however I didn't fee it would stay on a long trip without screws. It fits absolutely perfect now no bounce at all. (Still need bungee chords to help tie the bikes in tho) So at the end of the day, my review of this product now is that I had to fix it to make it work properly which I'm fine with but I assume most people don't have these capabilities. So I think maybe if you don't have the resources or time it may be a better idea to spend a little extra and buy a better quality product that actually fits into a 2" hitch. But for me I had the time and resources to fix it myself. Hope this review helps some people out with their decision to buy this product. ... show more

  • Up date on Stuck in hitch-Superior Customer Service
Style: Deluxe Locking
Hold off on buying this until they figure out the lock. Once you install it works great and is solid. BUT now I can not get the rack out of the receiver. One of the keys snapped off second use, and the button to push in for release was difficult but I got it. Now on trying to remove the rack the second time the release button will not push in and the rack is very solidly stuck in the hitch. Not sure what to do next. Contacted Allen Sports and sure hope they are helpful because I need to use my hatchback and get this off my car so I can return it. First thing in the morning after I wrote this first 2 star review, I receive an email from Allen Sports. First thing was offering to make the situation right asap. The night prior i had some family help looking at it trying to figure out what it was we needed to do. Final solution was some WD40 around the release button on the hitch and them some wiggling. I think there was just not the right slip after unlocking it to get it out of the hitch, and perhaps that button I think was maybe too big for my hitch. They offered to cover the cost of the 2 stronger keys I had made and will look into the keys and what may have been the issue with my rack. I am going to try it a few more time to see it the issue comes up again. They do a lot of product testing and were genuinely interesting in my problem since it never happened in their product testing. They offered to replace with another rack if this continues, this was Allen Sports, not Amazon. The rack is very well made, I looked at a lot before buying this one and the quality and function is great and would now definitively recommend you can by their product with confidence. ... show more

  • HIGHLY Recommended (if you also purchase additional tie down straps)
Style: Ez Load
I decided to wait a bit before posting my review of this bike hitch so that I could put it through its paces. In the past couple of weeks, I have transported our two bikes to several locations. The bike rack has performed admirably! Now... I'll add this in. I would NOT rely on the straps that come with the hitch. When I purchased this bike hitch, I also purchased a set of 6 quick release straps. When the straps arrived, I cut each one of them down to about a 1 foot (to 2 foot) lengths and I use 3 straps on each bike in tandem with the straps that come with the hitch. The bikes don't wobble and there seems to be very little movement at all while I'm driving. I would VERY strongly advise getting this rack if, AND ONLY IF, you also purchase a set of straps to use in addition to the factory installed straps. The hitch itself is heavy duty and seems like it will last me a good long time. OH... one negative thing... the screw down straps that allow you to position them in different locations on the upright bar don't screw down very tightly. Just another reason why you need to buy a set of 6 tie down straps to use in conjunction with the manufacturers straps. Update after trip to Florida: We took a 2000 mile (round trip) journey to Ft. Myers beach this past month and took 2 bikes along with us. This Easy Load Deluxe hitch worked flawlessly. I never felt worried one bit that the bikes were in danger of coming off. Of course, if you read my review above, you will know that I used 6 extra straps... three extra straps per bike in order to hold the bikes in place. I would not recommend using the straps that come with this hitch by themselves. I don't believe they would hold the bike in place. But, by using the extra straps, this hitch worked like a CHAMP! ... show more
