I really like this doorbell. The video quality is clear, the motion alerts are helpful, and I like being able to see who is at the door from my phone. I have been debating getting a ring camera for quite some time now. I was never really worried about people stealing stuff from my porch or any shady things going on outside, so the need wasn't too pressing. Enter the wonderful Cyber Monday/Black Friday sale. This little gem was half off, so I figured I'd go for it. The return window was extended until the end of January, so I knew I'd get a good deal of time to really decide if this was something I wanted/needed. I opted against paying the $50+ to have a technician come to my house to install it. Mainly because it would only mean that someone would come to my house and show me how to use the app (without doing anything else). Sorry, not paying someone more money that I spent on the product to show me how to set up the perfectly easy app. I don't have Taylor Swift money just lying around. I also opted to use the battery feature instead of hardwiring it to my actual doorbell. A few people stated that it takes a long time to charge. This is true. I believe it took me about 6 hours (the battery was around 40% when I opened the box). HOWEVER...it is March 2 and I am still sitting at 52% battery life. This was installed on November 25. That's a little over 3 months and only half of the battery has drained. I'm more than okay with that. The only issue that I have is that there is about a 2-3 second delay from when someone enters the video zone and when my phone alerts me. And to be honest, that's really just nitpicking at this point. Once the doorbell has been rung, there is no delay while speaking to the person outside. The video quality is wonderful, even at night. (I'll edit this review later to show the quality, my phone is charging right now, oops) I definitely love my little ring camera. It was easy to install on my door frame (I only had space to use 2 screws, but it is secured perfectly), and the app is very user-friendly (no need to spend $50 on someone coming to your house) ... show more

I love the ring, rechargeable doorbell, and home security product works well. Gives you a live view. Easy to set up it records anything that’s outside the quality is exceptional and the sound is very good. I highly recommend it and I would buy another one again. it hooks up great to your phone and it tells you how much charge you have left so you can recharge it. It’s just a wonderful device that even hooks up to your Echo Dot. I never miss a package ever. ... show more

This is great to have, but the subscription is exploitive

I caved and finally bought this Ring Doorbell after having an expensive package stolen right from my doorstep, which was meant to be a birthday gift for my fiancé. Thankfully, I was compensated for it, but it still really bothers me that this happened, and I’ll never know who stole it. With that said, I don’t regret getting this because I feel a lot safer with it and it’s made me aware of things I may have never known about, like my cat having a super secret admirer… The cat in the video isn’t mine. It’s just a stray that visits every other day. For some reason However, there are some things that bother me. First and foremost, you have to pay a subscription to even comfortably use this product, even after paying a pretty pricey fee for the device itself, which feels exploitive, in my opinion. I don’t think we should have to pay a subscription for something we already own. It’s basically unusable without it and severely limits the features. The footage isn’t perfect, either. Sometimes it completely misses and doesn’t record something at the door, or the recording will glitch or cut out random chunks. However, it works the majority of the time, and the camera quality and audio is honestly pretty good. It’s definitely clear enough to recognize faces, even from a distance. I was surprised and relieved that it has a pretty good view of the ground below despite it being high up on a flat door. The battery is one of the most efficient parts of this product. I’ve owned this for months, have never turned it off, and I haven’t even needed to charge it yet! It is low battery right now, though, so I will need to soon. I’d recommend this, but please be aware of the unfortunate subscription trap and the potential glitches. It’s a flawed product, but I can’t deny it does add much needed safety and comfort to my life, and I can praise it for always giving me notifications instantly whenever something triggers the camera. Best thing i have ever bought. Super duper easy to hook up and the video isnt blurry, you can see and hear everything. I got it for my dogs so I can check on them when im gone. I love that you can go back to review it or put it in live mode. You won't be disappointed with this purchase

Great as long as it is set to "Frequently"

Edit: After working with Brett from Ring, my device is working well and we are happy. I even purchased the subscription plan. It is very important to have the Motion Frequency set to "Frequently" even though it warns that it's the shortest battery life. If you switch to "Regularly", it will not record again after an event even if a person is at your door. It will wait until the next "regular" event time. While using "Regularly", we had a package just show up on our porch without showing anyone delivering it. "Frequently" is the way to go. Thank you for all of your help, Brett!!! The sensitivity does not work well. It's either too sensitive and picks up cars driving down the street and my plant blowing on the porch, or it's not sensitive enough and either shows a random package on the porch (with no footage of anyone delivering) or the delivery person walking away. It does not show the person coming up the steps. It missed my boyfriend going in and out of the house several times. It comes with a 30 day free subscription. After the 30 days, you see what you really get, which is just a doorbell with live action only. We cannot go back to look at video footage at all. The return window closes at 30 days from the order date. If it's installed on day one, you may actually be able to return the device the day the subcription ends. I understand not getting a ton of data without the subscription, but I thought we'd get 24 hours or at least a few hours. It is not worth it for the price and now it's out of the return window. One of Our Favorite Smart Home Upgrades

We absolutely love this Ring doorbell and fingerprint lock combo. It’s one of those purchases we use every single day, and it’s made coming and going so much more convenient. The fingerprint reader has been incredibly reliable. I was honestly skeptical at first because I have very sweaty hands, but it recognizes my fingerprint consistently without any issues. The Ring notifications are fast and reliable, so we always know when someone is at the front door. It also integrates seamlessly with our Google Home setup, which was important to us since we already have other smart home devices. Installation was straightforward, the app is easy to use, and the lock has been dependable from day one. We use the fingerprint feature constantly, but it’s also nice having multiple ways to unlock the door if needed. Overall, this has been one of our favorite smart home purchases.
