  • Echo dot with clock needs more color choices.
This is my second echo. I am still using my gen 1 dot! I have since ordered two more for other rooms in the house. The clock display is a fantastic thing to have. I just ordered my fifth, although it has not arrived yet. I just wish there were more colors with clock option. They only offer white. Get with it Amazon. I do not like the spot with the clock. It is too much for the night stand. All in all the performance has been great. The sound is great to. If you are waiting for the dot with the clock, it should be available again soon. When it is available again, don't delay, buy it. You won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Nifty Gizmo, Tricky Set-up, but Still a Bug
Color: Glacier White Configuration: Device only
I am a longtime internet radio listener. Suddenly, and without warning (for me), Logitech recently pulled the plug on their servers after 10 years and instantly obsoleted the three internet radios I had around the house. I decided on Echo Dots as probably being the best solution to replace the radios. And indeed that is the case. Like my radios, with TuneIn on the Dots I can access just about any genre of audio format programming from around the world with a simple "Alexa play..." Sonically, these little guys are quite impressive given their size. They're not going to fill a room with concert-hall-quality sound but that's not what they're primarily designed to do. As for Alexa integration and set up, I did not find that to be as easy as Amazon suggests. The Dots come with minimalist setup instructions that basically say download the app, plug in the Dot, and follow the prompts. However, my router is partitioned into Primary, Internet of Things, and Guest. I wanted to install the Dots on my IoT. But an option was never given to select the partition I wanted. Apparently the Dots were going to install on whatever network the tablet was on that I was using for setup. It took me a while to work through what to do in order to get them installed as I wanted. There were also other problems that needed to be solved through trial and error that required some googling to figure out. Eventually the first Dot sprung to life but I still don't really have a good grip on what I did to make that happen. Luckily, once the first Dot was installed, the other two were essentially PnP. But the whole process took hours, not minutes, along with a fair amount of anxiety and uncertainty about what I was doing. NOT.SO.SIMPLE. I also don't find the Alexa app to be very user friendly. It's not at all intuitive and takes a fair amount of internet searching just to find out what you can do with the Dots let alone make it happen. Finally, no one should ever forget that in days of yore, government agents would either have to sneak into your home or get court orders to place a bug. The old East German Stasi would never have believed that people would willingly bug themselves like this. These smart speakers are listening devices you are voluntarily putting in your home or office that listen to everything you say, presumably just waiting for the magic word "Alexa" before they start processing the information you provide. As paranoid as it may sound, it doesn't take too much imagination for how these devices could be employed or hacked to violate someone's personal privacy in some places around the world now or in the future. Fortunately, the Dots have a prominent button to turn off the microphone so you can lower the Cone of Silence when necessary (assuming you really want to believe that the mic couldn't be turned back on by a determined foe). The problem, however, is that these Dots are so small and unobtrusive that they just fade into the background, out of sight and out of mind. You forget they're there and listening! ... show more

  • The ultimate fusion of tech wizardry and comedic genius.
Color: Glacier White Configuration: Device only
This little guy is sleek, stylish, and compact, making it a seamless addition to any room. And with the built-in clock, it's like having a mini timekeeper on your bedside table or kitchen counter, always ready to keep you on schedule. But it's not just about looks. This smart speaker packs a serious punch when it comes to functionality. Need to set a reminder, check the weather, or play your favorite song? Just ask Alexa, and she's got your back. Plus, with the clock display, you can easily see the time at a glance without having to reach for your phone or watch. But perhaps the best part is its sound quality. Despite its small size, this little speaker delivers surprisingly robust audio that fills the room with rich, immersive sound. Whether you're listening to music, podcasts, or making hands free calls, the Echo Dot ensures an enjoyable experience every time. This is a must have addition to any home. With its stylish design, versatile features, and seamless functionality, it's sure to become your new favorite tech companion. • Alexa with Light Sensing LED Clock!
Color: Glacier White Configuration: Device only
I've used Echo's for years. This is a nice update, with very good (not quite great) sound, small footprint, and nice appearance. I love the smart clock feature that will also "echo" other information such as the temperature when you ask for the weather, and the artist and track when you're listening to music. It has a built-in motion sensor that you can use for programming events (using the Alexa App on your phone) such as turning on smart lights when you come into a room. It also has a touch sensor so that when you tap the top, it will pause music or restart it. It comes with a built-in thermometer that you can also use to program events such as turning on smart devices at certain temps. the LED's will sense room light and dim automatically in the dark, so you don't blind yourself at night, and you can set the base levels in the Alexa App. I bought two of these for our bathroom to listen to music and news while getting ready in the morning. You can pair them so they act as left and right speakers. This works VERY well, they sound really good in paired stereo. They will also share volume control, so changing the volume on one changes the volume on the other also. When two Echos are in the same room, they will both activate with "Alexa" but only the closest one will respond to the command. By comparison, this Echo Dot sounds comparable to an Apple Home Pod mini (which I also use), but is far more functional, but less expensive, and it will still play the Apple Music service. Recommended. ... show more

  • Fun and Helpful
I have been having fun with this as soon as I received it and plugged it in. There was no trouble at all. You simply download the Alexa app and it basically sets up itself. Though I had previously linked it to amazon. It has been fun setting up routines and changing the voice. I have inquired about the weather and it seems to have been a truthful weather (person) so far. I purchased a second echo dot in order to have surround sound and the sound comes through very clearly and impressively. It kind of reminds me of playing with a furby when they first came out. Though furby's got old kind of quickly, alexa is like another person of which you have full control over... I gave this 4 stars as I did want to use the surround sound for my tv, which is a Roku, and it does not work for this purpose. Before purchase I read that alexa was compatible with a Roku smart tv. While this is true, only afterwards did I find out that this only means that alexa can turn the channel or the sound up on your tv, yet does not have the ability to use as a surround sound system for a Roku tv. Yet is supposedly only good for working with a fire tv. So am disappointed about this. But alexa is still fun to work with. Another thing is only a slight annoyance when playing songs. You ask alexa to play the song you would like, some songs are played freely, some songs you need a subscription for, then when the song is over alexa just keeps on playing unless you set a timer. So the annoyance comes as the song may be available and you just have to take a chance, or alexa shuffles similar music you may not like, or if allowed to keep playing may play music you possibly hate. I would suggest for the second echo dot since it does not have the screen/time feature that when setting the volume it could briefly tell you what volume it is on. Though you can ask it. Overall it has been very fun and I'm sure I will discover more ways to use this as life progresses. And since it was all so simple, I am considering buying more alexa's and more smart products in the future to extend to whole house. Happy and Delighted. Thank you for making this electronic device. ... show more

  • Would purchase again
Update 3/10/2024 - Item is being returned even after doing a factory reset it would not continue to play Amazon Music without constant interruptions. However, I do want to call out the Tech Support person Vijay who spent quite a bit of time assisting via a chat. Very patient and helpful. Thank you! Update 3/8/2024 - I would not purchase this item again nor any of the Amazon devices based on the issues with this item and the poor technical support I've received thus far. I've moved it to 4 different places in my home, rebooted it & my home network. It continues to randomly turn off when playing Amazon Music. I'm not having issues with any other device and do not have many devices running. I've asked for it to turn off after a certain number of hours and also, as tech support suggested, even asked to play in an endless loop (which as I told them made no sense). Also ensured my Alexa software is updated. Seems this is a known issue with this item. I'm going to do a factory reset which is all that's left other than returning it.....which will be the first time I've had to return anything I've ordered. I hope the return process is easier than this has been. Update 2/11 - This Echo still does not continue playing music as expected. I can give a turn off command of a XX hours and it will turn off way before then. I've restarted it, moved it, etc and still continues to be problematic. It can not be my network as this is the only device I have an issue with. This is the first Echo product I've purchased. and I must admit the sound from this is very nice. My primary use of it is to play music and it sounds excellent. I am having a problem with the music shutting off. No rhyme nor reason nor specific amount of time. I've just tested it to see if i can give a turn off time "Alexa turn music off at XXXX time" so see if that helps. I have no issues with my WiFi and have very few devices running so can't be the issue. Lastly and most importantly, my dog is afraid of the Alexa voice coming from the Echo. I've tried to acclimate her slowly and introduce her to the sound of it (with the music) without her hearing Alexa voice. She does ok until she hears Alexa voice and she's still afraid of it. I have to be cognizant of her whereabouts when using it. I've read about other dogs being afraid - not sure if it's frequency or Alexa voice. ... show more

  • BEST Purchase I’ve ever made!
Color: Glacier White Configuration: Device only
Love it, I don’t really have any issues with it. The only issue is very rare she won’t listen to you. Not so often, not so little. But it’s very rare when it happens. Everything is awesome, love how it actually does what I ask. I have her connected to my led light from daybetter. At first I didn’t know why Alexa wouldn’t connect to my led lights or why my led lights won’t match my music. You learn so much and how to use it lol. Figure everything out on my own it was a struggle but worth it! If you are using led lights from daybetter and can’t connect your led light to match with the music, you need to open the app of music so your led light music turns its mic on and once placed near Alexa so it can listen to the music it starts changing colors matching the beat. It’s pretty awesome!! 💖💖💖 Update May 3, 2026 Had this since April 28, 2023 and works still AMAZING! Never had issues, also if your Alexa disconnects from wifi is because it’s YOUR wifi, not Alexa, it could also be because you had a outage which I had this happened at least once an year which turns WiFi off for awhile too. Alexa has never failed me. I think people who dislike it because of issue just have bad luck with the device. You either gotta learn more before you hate or you really got a defective one. I can connect to almost anything that is Bluetooth, you can even connect to Bluetooth led ceiling light. It’s pretty amazing and what I love about this is it has a time on it. Not like any other Alexa. My sister calls this Alexa limited edition since it’s hard to get one of these Alexa’s. She been trying to buy one her self but they don’t always make it and hard to find in Amazon search or in the internet. Seems now they are making some more definitely sharing this to my sister. This Alexa is just one of the best made at least in my opinion. ... show more
