I am an Amazon Vine reviewer, and I chose this product, which I received for free (though I do pay taxes on it) for an HONEST review. I am reviewing the 20”x20”x1” foam filter pad 50 PPI. I have a 75 gallon tropical tank, a 37 gallon Peacock cichlid tank, a 20 gallon peacock cichlid tank, and a 190 gallon fresh water pond. I have used a lot of filter pads in the 20 years I have been keeping fish. I currently have canister filters on my 3 indoor aquariums and two submerged filters in the pond. After wetting the filter pad and allowing it to dry for several days, per the instructions, this filter pad rebounded pretty much to it’s advertised size. I measured it at the full 20”x20”, but 0.9” instead of a full 1” thickness. There is always variations in manufactures measurements. This filter pad is easy to cut with standard kitchen shears and can be utilized in any of my filters. At 50 PPI, it does a great job of catching smaller particles and keeping the tanks clean. This type of filter also works well to add to the biological filtration over time. The price for this size filter pad it a good deal. I would recommend this filter pad to anyone with fish tanks. This sponge comes really compact inside a vacuum bag. After you open, you have to wait for a day or use some warm water to make it expand to its original shape. It works great and it is easy to clean.

This foam pad appears to be near the PPI that is stated. It is not however a flat sheet like the pictures show. There is a molded in bump in the middle of the pad. The bump does not go away in a few days like the other distortions in the foam due to shipping. I was expecting to be able to make several identical size sheets from this sheet and this bump would not work for my installation ... show more

I got this filter pad to use in the dump of my Red Sea 350 sump, which is great on concept but I initially didn’t like compared to canister filters due to its lack of filtering particles out as the water passes through. Problem solved! This filter pad can be cut to custom size and is effective at removing food particles and waste that pass through the system. In turn this makes the water in my display tank much clearer, keeps the water chemistry in balance, and significantly reduces algae growth. I recently bought a larger filtering system for my tank because the older filter clogged up too quickly and I was going through lots of filters more often than I wanted. The new filtering system allows me to buy these large pads and cut out the size that I need and save money. This sponge filter pad is just as thick and as dense as the individual replacements are and it will last much longer. The material is long-lasting and it can be removed from the water filter tank and rinsed in hot water, wrung out, and can be reused several times before needing replacement. This one pad will last several months at least and more than pay for itself in cost savings vs buying small pre-cut pieces individually at the local pet store. ... show more

Ordered to replace sponges in some aquariums filtration systems and to add additional baffling to filters with a strong output. Its pores are large so the water flow isn't overly restricted. I have a 80 gph pond pump that was getting clogged after two days and i decided to wrap it in this filter. I secured it with zip ties and put it in a fishnet bag and I can run it for over a month with no loss in pressure. I just clean it out for the first time and it caught a lot of debris and muck and it was easy to wash out with the hose. ... show more
