The media could not be loaded. This sealer came in handy to seal my jars of dry goods. I get nervous when winter approaches as mice can sometimes get indoors and like to raid my pantry. Not this year! Excellent seal!

The media could not be loaded. We dehydrate a lot of food for backpacking and camping, and like to vacuum seal it for storage to maintain freshness. We have a full-size, brand name vacuum sealer that can seal pouches, etc. A lot of times with that, we have problems with leaks over time. This unit is specifically for glass canning jars, and works great! It even came fully assembled and fully charged! Just press it in place over the jar with lid on, and it slowly suctions out air for 60 seconds, then shuts off. You can hear changes in the frequency of the sound from the unit as it pumps, and those changes in sound tell you that it's working. It's like listening to an air pump as an inflatable mattress is filling, or a water bottle as water is nearing the top. The really unexpected bonus is that I was able to seal jars containing fine materials, like table sugar (see video). The suction is gentle enough that it didn't pull the sugar up. I didn't try it with flour, but I expect it would work fine. It comes with lids to use, but they looked like ordinary canning lids. We used old canning lids, probably used a dozen times each, and they sealed just fine. The only issue I ran in to was not unexpected: I tried sealing freshly cooked rice, in order to keep it fresher longer in the refrigerator. It sealed fine initially, but after a few hours the lid was loose both times I tested it. There's a lot of moisture in the rice, and that moisture would have been sucked up past the sealing ring on the lid, preventing a complete seal. Note that I did these tests also with old lids, so it's possible with thorough cleaning of the jar top and using a new lid, it might have held better. At any rate, it's not really designed for sealing moist items, just like I would never have tried to seal cooked rice using our bigger vacuum sealer. This is a really great product, and I keep finding more things to vacuum pack for freshness. Wish I had gotten this a long time ago!
