The ends are a solid base for holding at sides of windows and a good quality "rubber" to keep them from slipping. I ordered the small size and the fit was perfect for my small width windows. Very sturdy with the sheer curtain panels I am using. I recently converted my closet into a “Cloffice” and my son removed the door. The latter plan is to remove the door frame but until then these curtain rods are very useful and are of great quality.
