  • Solid wood!
I think this little coop is amazing value. We brought one of the doors into lowes and had them color match the stain. Then we added some additional panels for privacy for the birds. Also built a frame out of pressure treated 2x4 so the coop would not have contact with the ground.

  • The bridge instructions
The only thing wrong was the instructions on how to do the bridge but I figured it out

  • Went together easily. Ideal for bantams
It's smaller than it looks in the picture. It was easy to assemble. Light weight wood. A good value for the price.

  • Well designed and nicely made, with caveats
This was bought to be a cat playground rather than a chicken coop. As someone who has raised a lot of chickens in my youth, this is only for hobby use if you have one or two chickens. For my purposes, it will suit well, but let's get into what is and isn't good. It is well-designed for what it is. If you want a portable chicken coop and small run that you can move around in your yard, this is perfect. Two people can move it fairly easily, and it could be retrofitted with wheels and a bar for someone to move it by themselves. It is cute and chickens would absolutely love it, as will the grandcats when they come to visit. To put it together, you're going to need a drill, some small drill bits, #1 and #2 Phillips bits, wood glue, some spring clamps and a couple of bar clamps or a strap. Otherwise, you will need two extra people to hold things while you assemble. It's advisable to drill pilot holes to the depth you need, because although they are predrilled, the hole is often not deep enough and because the wood is fir and prone to splitting, save yourself some headaches and drill pilot holes to the depth you need. The directions are crap and apparently have not been used by anyone that actually put anything together. I put it together by first constructing the house/nestbox part, then constructing the cage part, then lifting the house part onto the cage part, putting the two pieces together. Because it's made with molding and furring strips mostly, I felt it needed additional support, especially as I am intending to move it around as the seasons change, so I used a lot of T and strap hardware at critical junctions. Whoever designed this originally knew what they were doing by using the various molding to make rabbets, etc., and most of the fussy parts are preconstructed. If you had to build this yourself, you would spend several weeks cutting and fitting, so A+ on this. It has a light wash of stain on it, but if you want this to last through more than a few seasons, you had best plan on adding some good oil or alkalyd-based paint, or marine-grade (not polyurethane) spar varnish is in order. To make things easier, a sprayer to apply would be even better, but don't be stingy with the coats. Make sure you somehow protect the bottom of the structure to keep it from coming into contact with bare ground or it will rot. I intend to put mine up on some bricks that are partially sunk into the ground, to support the base at strategic points and prevent soil contact. Altogether I probably spent around another $75 for the hardware, extra screws and spar varnish. I'm very pleased with the purchase. Although I did more retrofitting than most people would do because it has to handle the rigors of cats hanging off various parts when they get excited, it's fine for a couple of chickens. It would have taken me much longer to build it myself, and at today's prices it would have been close to a wash on the price, and it's really cute. It is well-designed and well-constructed, saving me endless amounts of headaches. ... show more

  • Rust
The house is cute, functional and not too difficult to put together with 2 people. Unfortunately, within 2 weeks of being outside, the galvanized mesh on one panel was seriously rusting. I emailed the company and never heard back. Within a month or so most all of the mesh is rusting. Yes, I can treat it, but I shouldn't need to in such a short time and 0 stars to the company for never responding. ... show more

  • Broken parts
the box was so diminished I could have pulled the pieces right out and there is a lot you should do to keep the water from going in the cracks.

  • It's a good buy for the buck
As far as assembly, it was easy for my husband but would not have been so easy for me. The instructions were not clear. It is not exceptionally sturdy but it is very cute and has everything a chicken would need. However, we installed it in a 7'x12' run. If the chicken is confined solely to the coop I would consider it too small. ... show more

  • Small
Way smaller then I thought. 2 chickens seem to be enough for this little guy.
