I wanted try this one a little longer to prove itself before I reviewed it. I have been using it for a month now on a car that I drive very little. Every time I have gone to use the car, it fires right up. Prior to using this maintainer, the battery would either be dead or very low. This maintainer has no settings needed upon initial use, everything is automatic. It will detect your battery type and voltage once connected to your battery and will adjust the amperage to supply (Max 2 amps for the mode I have). Your battery will be ready for you to start your car when you need it, after leaving this maintainer on for a day or two. It is NOT for rapid battery charging or for jump starting, and it DOES need to be plugged in to a typical 115v outlet. It CAN be left on indefinitely as a maintainer without harming the battery. There is a battery "reconditioning" feature that will automatically kick in if detected or if your battery has extremely low voltage. You can apply this setting manually at the onset of charging if you wish. The reconditioning feature is not unique to this model, many have it, and it is known to work in many cases - but not all. Sometimes a battery is too dead for a "smart charger" to identify, and nothing happens (or it mistakenly identifies the battery as defective) until the battery has been at least partially charged**. That was not the case here. I tested it on a completely depleted battery, left it for a few days, and it brought it back to a 12v charge. **Note: This is just one of the reasons I have always kept an old analog charger around, they do not try to tell if a battery is good or bad, they just charge the battery. This can be useful to get the depleted battery charged to a point where the digital smart charger will then recognize it. Bottom line: It has been working fine for me for a month now. I WILL update this review should anything fail prematurely.

I tried this out on my car overnight. My battery is fairly new, and the maintainer's readouts confirmed that it was still in pretty good condition i it only took charge for about 5 minutes before switching to float mode. I switched it to recovery mode just for kicks and left it running overnight (but since my battery was healthy, it didn't make any real difference to its health). If I run into an unhealthy 12V lead acid battery, I'll make sure to give this a try on it. It's really nice that it supports several different levels of current - you can use this to charge not only car batteries, but also smaller batteries too, like for electric scooters and battery backups. The one thing i don't like about it is it's very light and feels kinda cheap. I guess it is kinda cheap, and i also guess it's not 1970 anymore and you cab make a 12 charger without 10 pounds of metal transformer, so maybe that's fine.

I've been needing a new battery charger for some time, and this one seemed like an okay replacement for my previous one. Bottom line up front, it seems to work alright on the couple batteries I have put on it. However, a couple things concern me so I'll voice them as well. First, the unit in the package clearly was a return as the cables were all over the place with mismatching zip ties. It looks like this unit was tested by another customer and then returned. This already gives me some pause, as I don't know what the previous customer might have thought was wrong with it. Second, while it does appear to work, when first plugging it in I get a bright visible spark from my wall outlet. So far this hasn't tripped a breaker or anything, but I have no other electrical appliances that cause such a spark when plugging them in. It might just be because there is no power button, so plugging in it immediately starts drawing a decent amount of power, but it still concerns me. Other than that, like I said, it seems to work alright so giving it 4 stars for being a value priced battery charger, losing 1 star for being a returned item and surprising me with the sparkiness.
