After 18 years my 6 gallon 150 psi Porter Cable pancake compressor stopped working, the motor still ran but would not hold air anymore. I did a lot of research because much has changed in 18 years with compressors, and I didn't want to spend a lot of cash because I'm retired now and needs have changed. This one received many good reviews on the internet so I looked up the company, where they were made so on and so forth and decided to go ahead and buy one. The compressor is set up well, small footprint with 3 padded legs, a long power cord that has it's own storage on the side. The gauges are protected, and it comes with 2 outlet connects, pop off valve and the power switch is the side. It has a nice large handle and a ball valve drain on the bottom. Everything is easy to see and get at and it is easy to carry and move around. I like it and can recommend it.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I needed a compact compressor to take along for smaller jobs and the pancake style seemed to be just right for running light duty tools, tire inflation, blow cleaning, etc. All of the pancake style compressors are in the same light duty job class with very similar ratings and features, so it made sense to buy the one with the best combination of price and features. I don't think branding makes any difference in this light duty classification. Functionality: This compressor functions just like any other. The 1/4" hose adapters allow my tools and air fittings to plug right into the air ports. The gauges are easy to read and indicate tank pressure and tool line pressure. I paired this compressor with a Keepro Durable Hybrid Air Hose, Flexible 1/4 Inch ID By 10 Feet Long from Amazon. This is a winning combination. Use: So far, I have used this compressor, a 10ft hose and a 100 foot hose to accomplish several inflation and light duty jobs. Tip: Users should keep in mind that the compressor cord should be plugged directly into a power outlet without any extension cord. If you need more range, then move the compressor to another outlet or use a longer air hose, not an electrical extension cord. This is because power losses would occur in the extension cord and the compressor would then be required to run on reduced power, causing it to overheat and shorten its life. I keep a 100 foot hybrid 1/4" air hose handy for those times when needed. Noise level: The noise level is surprisingly mild. I am very pleased with this compressor, its features and its noise level. I can easily stand next to the compressor and have a normal conversation while it is running. See my video for a demonstration. Portability: I find this compressor very portable. At 28 pounds, I can easily lift and carry this compressor. Also, this unit is easy to take along whether I'm driving my car or truck. This is basically the most compact compressor that can be put to practical pneumatic tool use. Value for money: I find this Ecomax compressor an excellent value at the original $160 price point. But now during Prime Days, Amazon is offering 20% off and that makes this compressor an even better bargain. I can enthusiastically recommend this compressor for portable applications. 5 stars!

I got the 6 gallon pancake air compressor for powering nail guns around the house and on small job sites, and it has performed better than I expected for its size. It builds up to the full 150 PSI quickly, and the recovery time between bursts is short enough that I never felt like I had to wait around for the tank to refill during projects. The oil free design keeps maintenance simple, and it runs smoothly without any messy upkeep. I started by using it with my 18 gauge brad nailer for trim work, and it fired consistently with no noticeable drop in pressure even when I was working quickly. The regulator is easy to adjust with precision, and the gauge readings are clear and accurate. The compressor is stable while running, and the rubber feet help keep it from sliding across the floor on smooth surfaces. For its capacity, the noise level is reasonable, making it tolerable for indoor work without ear protection for short bursts. I was impressed that it even powered my roofing nailer for a small repair without struggling, which I did not expect from a compact unit. The tank size is just enough to handle short bursts of higher air demand tools before needing to recover, and the quick connect fittings make switching between tools a fast process. The handle and compact form factor make it easy to carry up stairs or load into a truck bed, and it stores neatly on a shelf when not in use. After several weeks of use for both carpentry and minor roofing work, it has held pressure well with no leaks, and all fittings remain tight. This has proven to be a dependable all around compressor for both home and light jobsite use, offering enough power for a variety of pneumatic tools without taking up too much space.

A quarter century ago, I bought an Emgloo AM700 compressor. It's the type with a pair of two gallon tanks and a handle that comes out of the top. It was quite a stretch back then for me to pay so much for a compressor, but it turned out to be a good choice. It still runs great after all that time, and being tossed into the back of a truck over and over again (one repair - replaced the pressure switch). This compressor, while having some similar attributes is intended for a different customer base. You can still get a compressor that is a lot like the AM700. Dewalt bought Emgloo and new sells a compressor that appears almost identical to the AM700 (except that it is yellow). The Dewalt compressor runs just under four hundred bucks. That's where this thing comes in. In terms of performance, it is very similar to the others I've described. This puts out the same amount of air as the Emgloo (a little less than the Dewalt). In terms of durability, I am not confident that this will still be working in 25 years, but that's not a big problem cause I certainly won't be working in another 25 years. This compressor feels sturdy enough, but might not handle being tossed in the back of a truck every other day for a few decades. On the positive side, this compressor weighs about half of what the Dewalt and Emgloo do. In terms of noise, they are all about the same. The bottom line is that for someone like me that is essentially just a DIY homeowner, this compressor is just fine (I especially appreciate that it is about 25 pounds lighter than the others.) If I was a contractor in the first half of my career, I might want to shell out the extra couple hundred bucks for the heavier duty brands.
