  • Best of this style!
I have a home YouTube studio and used these panels on the ceiling, directly above where I sit in front of the camera. When it comes to this 12"x12" foam sound damping panel style that's ubiquitous on Amazon, these panels are the best I've used, full stop. I have 4 other brands throughout the studio but they don't perform anywhere near these, nor do they look as good. All other sound foam I've gotten that comes vacuum packed claims they will fully expand to their original shape but they never do. I even sent a set back once because they didn't expand a millimeter after 10 days of sitting out. This set is legit, every single square fully expanded to the exact same shape and size, which really helped speed up the install process. Not only that, they were full expanded in like 10 seconds or less, so they live up to the expectation set by the product page. One thing to note; unless you spend mega bucks on a true sound PROOF room system, these do not sound proof anything. In fact, no foam panel on this site is sound proof. Will they reduce noise transmission? Of course they do, but their intended purpose is for sound deadening and echo reduction. ... show more

  • Convenient, moderately effective, inexpensive, and low odor
These types of foam panels are not going to make a night-and-day difference in the acoustic characteristics of your room. Maybe if you cover every hard surface -- walls and ceilings -- you'd notice a pretty big difference. But if you're just putting a few here and there, it's going to be a more subtle effect. With expectations set accordingly based on use of similar products in the past, I can say that I was mostly impressed with these. Unlike some I've used, these achieved their full size remarkably quickly after opening the package. I'd say they reached about 75% of their fully expanded size within 30s, and 90% within a couple minutes. I set them aside for a couple hours after that, and they finished their last bit of expansion over that time. They never *quite* reached 2" thick, but they came close at about 1.8" or so. Not bad. I've used some foam panels before that had a terrible smell when removed from the package. Thankfully that is not the case here. There is a slight odor, and I'm almost certain that it's from the adhesive. One minor complaint about the adhesive is that some of the panels were stuck to each other around the edges, and that left some adhesive behind on the surface of. the neighboring panel. It's not a lot, but it's visible in a few places. Different surface shapes result in different attenuation characteristics. I believe a more pointed pyramid shape is generally more effective than the shape of these, which is kind of like a lopped-off/rounded pyramid. But the difference probably isn't enough to be concerned about for a casual home recording studio type of environment. Installation is going to be tricky if you're trying to get everything perfectly aligned. I recommend using a laser level or a straight edge to assure that your panels are parallel. Even then it's going to be tricky to lay each panel out perfectly flatly so that you have even gaps between your panels (if you're using gaps), and that both the top and bottom edges (or left and right, depending on your layout) of neighboring panels are aligned. The problem is that the panels are not rigid, so it's easy to apply a little extra force in one direction or another while you're laying the panels down, and that's going to lead to some uneven sides. For those with OCD, I'd recommend setting up a jig/template of some kind out of thin wood or poster-board, and pushing the panels into place that way to assure that everything lines up. 4/5 stars. These are definitely better than some foam panels I've used. They're not perfect, but I like them and can recommend them if you set your expectations appropriately and don't expect miracles. ... show more

  • Good Sound Panels
These panels are easy to use, and they work well.

  • Great for ceiling noise reduction
These foam panels do a good job with reflected sound, especially on a ceiling. While these are not the densest foam sound-control panels, they are equal to the best 12x12 foam panels I've tested. They do a good job at cutting reflected sound, especially when installed on a ceiling. While foam is the least effective at damping the entire noise spectrum, these are comparable overall to the noise reduction of the thinner fiber options I've tested. These 12x12 foam panels are easy to install. I do caution, however, that foam panels (even these) are hard to keep aligned if not mounted on fiber panels. These do not drift as much as most, but take care installing them or they will wander off a straight line. I recommend these, especially for places like ceilings. ... show more

  • Pretty good for the price
I got some other panels with a different design from this manufacturer. The density calculated out to a bit less than claimed – 1.99 lbs/ft3 vs. the claimed 2.2 lbs/ft3. The mushroom shape makes these hard to calculate, I came out to 1.54 lbs/ft3 but I treated the mushrooms as rectangular boxes; obviously they are not and have less volume, therefore I imagine these are closer to the 2 lbs/ft3 mark like the other panels with a different design. They're good enough for me to add to my studio, but I'm combining them with a ton of other sound treatment and insulations. Alone on a wall these will only cut down a bit of echo and high frequency. Still, for the price, they're pretty good, and for some reason I really like the mushroom design vs pyramid. ... show more

  • SOUNDS Good!
I was so happy to find these panels! As a voiceover talent, I have converted many rooms in my house into recording studios. In the past, I learned the painful lesson that it is not wise to attach acoustic foam panels to the wall using spray adhesive unless you're looking to strip away some drywall when you remove the panels!!! The other method I tried was glueing the panels to a room divider, which completely ruined the expensive room divider. That is why this product is amazing! I had already purchased large foam boards to which I attached these panels. The panels are so lightweight that, once attached to the foam board, it's still light enough to use a small nail to affix the board with the panels on them to my walls. They are really high quality and bigger than I thought. Once I unboxed them and punctured the vacuum seal, these panels really expanded! I would recommend these to anyone looking for an affordable, yet professional way to sound treat a room for a studio, an office or any other place you want to baffle ambient noises. ... show more
