I really wanted this item. But found lots of issues. First of all, it had been repackaged. It was supposed to be new. Not 100% sure if it was. I’ve included pictures of the top issue. The frame brackets “E” is supposed to have 4 holes. The frame itself has 4 holes. The “E” brackets had 5. It didn’t line up right. Also, 2 pedestal pieces were missing. The pieces/bolts that were supposed to be the same size, were not. Out of the first 6 bolts (from same group) I tried, only 2 fit the area where they supposed to go. The holes pre-drilled also were incorrect and the hardware indicated for those pieces didn’t fit. A very small Allen wrench was included, but half the heads on the hardware didn’t correspond with the tool. (One tool is supposed to be needed for assembly). The included tool is so flimsy it felt like it would break, especially since there was so much variation in pre-drilled holes.

The pergola is everything we hoped for. We did have one plastic piece break but the company happily sent me several of the parts within a few days of contacting them.

Putting this thing together is a joke in itself. You basically have to have 2 people to do it, which I'm thankful my GF was around. With the sun beating down on us, we set out to complete this project. First off, the box is heavy. Like heavy heavy. Once we got it into the backyard, we laid everything out. The sealed pack of hardware had popped open in shipment, so there were loose bits all over the box. That was annoying. It comes with a little Allen wrench, the only tool you'll need. Actually, that's a lie. If you tried to put this thing together with just that, you'll go insane. First, when connecting the top beams, joists, whatever you want to call them, they use a connecting plate that slips inside of them and you screw them down to it...sounds easy enough. Nope. They aren't tapped right. NONE OF THE CONNECTORS ARE TAPPED RIGHT. My GF tried her best, but she could only get one in half way, cross threading the bolt the entire way. Since this a a review product we tried to use only what was provided. When that didn't work, I broke out the impact and put them all in that way. You can feel every single bolt cross thread, so this isn't coming apart easily. And if I ever have to move it, it's getting recycled with an angle grinder and a sawzall instead. For as expensive as this is, you'd think it would have been made better. Once we got it all together and put the shade on, it was actually quite nice! Until we realized that you can only have one side down at a time. The picture shows it halfway down both sides...if there is even a gentle breeze, the canopy top comes off, so you have to keep it locked down to one side. I live in the midwest, there's always wind or stronger breezes. So, that's annoying. But, when it's blocking the sun, it blocks it well! I did have to anchor the legs down because this unit will try to walk away if the wind picks up right. I will say, it will hold up to 20-30mph winds if anchored down properly. Anything above that and it's a death trap, so take the top down on those stormy days. Rain is another issue. This thing is a water collector. The shade will pool up water between the slats. Just another annoying thing. If you unhook one corner of the locked shade, the water will generally flow off. Then repeat the process on the other corner. Overall, it works as a shade. But getting this thing put together is a nightmare. I don't recommend it.

Love the shade it provides. However, when rains the water pools on the canopy and some of my cross bars are sagging already. It’s only been up for 3 days. It is not wind resistant and not very sturdy! Don’t recommend if you have wind or rain!
