Description

The Steel DX36 is a universal rack system that can be installed on any vehicle with or without drip rails(drilling required). All steel systems are galvanized and powder coated for superior protection. The extra wide mounting base uses polyfoam gasket and interior plate to secures the rack system onto the vehicle. Cross bars are made with 13 gauge steel and mounting bases are made with 11 gauge steel. The max load capacity for this 2 bar system is 350 lbs. This system is Powder Coated Sandy Black.

Just opened package today, 9/22/2020 and here is what I find: Bead welds are poor and missing completely in areas where racks would require strong welding. On this particular rack where the main metal bar and the anchor plate adjoin together, there is visible rust already present where the weld should have been. Instead of seeing a weld in this area, there is a significant sized hole that ultimately will make the weight and pull load much weaker and will break away sooner than you think. The primer and coat are poor. There is a significant amount of scratches and scuff marks already showing the bare metal. Because I am already seeing visible rust, I can only tell you that the grade of metal used and fabricated here is on the cheaper spectrum. If this rack that was shipped out to me by this company sets the standard for the method in which these racks are being manufactured and shipped out to their customers, the cost of this item is really not worth more than $55.00-75.00 which is what I paid for a similar rack almost 10 years ago that took years of use with constant ladder mounts and time and again full pressure ratcheting, and never once did I see the welds break because that company welded completely around the areas where the main bar joined together with the anchor plate. ... show more

    • Use rivet nuts/threaded inserts-do not use the bolts included.

1) I'm a newb and I installed the hardware as the instructions indicate. This was a bad idea. While tightening the bolts it indented my roof under the rack mounts by pulling it down. Use rivet nuts/threaded inserts instead. Save yourself a TON of work and not dent your roof. 2) The cross bars/pipes slide together which makes it universal but when you tighten the lug it creates a 1 cm gap between the two "pipes". Water is going to get in there for sure. Unless that was what the extra pieces of rubber were for.. 3) The instructions could have been better ... show more

Took a few extra days to get here, but they tell you that up front. Comes with all the hardware you need, would recommend self install only if you are handy and have all the tools needed, otherwise take it to a shop for a pro install.     • The 3rd bar is worthless.

It's a nice quality ladder rack but that 3rd bar is worthless. Save your money and buy the 2 bar setup for this particular make and model vehicle which mine is a 2011 Ford Transit connect. The middle bar sticks up farther then the front and rear bar due to the curve of the roof so it teeder todders on the middle bar. You can't use it. I didn't use the hardware it came with. I used self tapping screws and a cement sealing adhesive. But the bungee hooks on the sides are nice and the ladders definitely do a good job staying put at least while traveling. ... show more

I just installed this over the weekend and it was easy, sturdy, and looks good. I have not tested it long term but the instructions were simple to follow. I am a mechanic so fabrication comes easy to me but I do feel anyone can follow the instructions and install the rack in a day depending on how hard it is to get to your headliner. I am going to order a 64" rook basket to fit into this rack. The sides that extend higher than the bars will hold the basket just right, and provide extra support for heavy loads. ... show more

For the money you really can’t beat it. All the parts were there and the installation was easy enough for one person. I placed mine 48 inches wide so I could also load a sheet of drywall or two when needed. I had to adjust the angle of the the base pieces just a bit to meet with the curve on the cap but all in all it was a good buy. ... show more

Got this to use as a ladder rack for a Chevy van that there is no factory/oem config for. It is perfect for configuring your own needs while still being quality and affordable. My roof is narrow and long and had to account for sliding door tracks on both sides (definitely couldn't get a 1 peice rack or a 3 peice). Comes with a good selection of hardware and waterproofing/sealant for the holes. I just needed bolts that were a little longer because of the sliding door tracks. ... show more

I was going to build my own racks when I found these on Amazon. They were delivered quickly, are well built, but not bulky and were very easy to install. We’ll be using these for all sorts of items, but mainly got them to haul kayaks. The price to me is also reasonable.
