The Maono PD100X is a beautiful, highly effective, efficient microphone connected directly to a PC via USB or to a mixer like Maono G1 NEO via XLR. Depending on the application, the versatility of USB and XLR connections are a great plus for this microphone. The microphone has a definite fun appeal. The light patters add that a fun dimension that is quite mood inducing: from calm to excitement. The mic with stand is light weight and sits nicely on my desk. Although specifications are important, I relied on listening to the recordings through noise canceling headphones. First was a direct connection to the MacBook Air via USB. The gain is just below maximum level and several sample recordings. The next samples are through the Maono G1 NEO via XLR adding just a touch of reverb for a little depth. All samples are recorded on Voice to make mp3’s for later insertions in iMovie, etc. Listening carefully to both samples, I was impressed with the sound reproduction and tonal depth. With the adjustment in the mixer while adding a music track, the playback voice is better than my own. The clarity, accuracy and the crispness of the playback is very clear. This rivals the Shure mic I use for voice overlays in my videos but at 1/3rd the cost. Here is the summary: PROS: Sound reproduction is crisp and clear Indicators for headphone and mic gain are clear Usable with both USB and XLR Changing light patters are clever Connections into the mic are firm Mute button is responsive and sensitive The finish on the matted body has a nice feel CONS: At this price point, none really. BOTTOM LINE: The Maono PD100X is a great microphone for clear voice reproduction for podcasting and recording. It is in a nice looking, fun microphone that is usable in different platforms. This is a great find.

I am using this connected to my computer via USB. The sound quality is terrible before you go into the software and adjust the noise filters and equalizer. Takes a few more minutes to set up than a traditional headset or cheaper desktop microphone. The microphone part is also a bit misleading, as you get the clearest sound from when the "top" of the microphone is facing towards your mouth. Other than that, the microphone reproduces the bass in a person's voice and works well for voip or gaming applications.

I have tried a handful of popular mics I could compare this to, and quite frankly I won't go there. I am going to tell you that this mic is a great mic, despite the plastic feel, it actually sounds good. The vocals get that podcasty feel to the sound, and when it's stationary it works great. The handling noises you might be able to tell it's built of plastic, but the pick-up of the vocals sound rather good and for the price would make a great beginner or budget microphone. The plus side to this mic are the interface options. You get XLR and it also has a USB connection (C type) and includes a lengthy USB C cable that is fairly robust in my opinion. The mic can be detected in my DAW as an input device, and is detected on any app that can select mic inputs. There is software you can install specifically used to change the tone an frequency cut-offs of the mic EQ. Very nice addition, though running dry I can do this in a DAW as well.. This software make it useful for Zoom or other cases when you are using the mic without a DAW and you want those features. The diaphram is tucked right under the end of the foam, so unlike some very popular podcast mic you see everywhere, you might want to watch those plosives. Though they aren't bad at all. This mic comes with a desk stand, and the mounting arm that is attached to the mic is double threaded for different type of boom thread mounts. If you are on a budget this might be a good option for you. For the price, it's a viable contender to many other mics. If money isn't an issue for you then there are a lot of quality choices out there.

I really like this microphone. It has great sound and is heads and tails above the small clip on I have used before. The settings are simple and the guide goes over everything to get started. The indicators lights change to indicate when the knob is adjusting the gain or the headphone volume. I didn't think I would be into the lights, but I have to admit I actually love them. I leave it on the alternating colors setting. They are not super bright or distracting and the color mixes are pleasant. You can set the lights to turn off when the mic is on mute, which is a helpful indicator. Some notes: -The cable USB-C to USB-A/C cable is nice and long but has a strong coil to it right now. I wish it was a flexible rope cord which would make it more manageable. It can move the microphone around if I adjust the cable. -The mute icon and the knob settings are upside down when it's sitting on the desktop stand, so it is really made to hang down. -A XLR cable or 3.5mm cable (for headphones) wasn't included, and it wasn't in the included components list so I wasn't expecting it. I have a mixer that provided an XLR cable and my headphones came with a 3.5mm cable so it wasn't a big miss for me and I could test that out.

I recently switched out to this mic for my desk vs one with a pop screen. This has a much smaller footprint on it than the other. I don't always use this mic, so the way I have it is I can fold it out of the way when not in use. overall the quality is good, people tell me the quality is better than my Jabra headset I use for work. the one star I took off is for me being super critical (and this is the way I have it mounted maybe), but the mute button changes the 5 dot lights on the mic which you have to look to see. Because the whole thing is lit up, it would have been nice to change the whole mic color when it is muted to red for example (another reason for the star off, no red color).
