  • Passed the Egg Turning and Heating Tests
Size: 8 eggs
The media could not be loaded. A local hobby farmer and chicken breeder of rare, exotic and/or endangered breeds of chickens told me that she uses this type of incubator for her hatchings. She didn't say which brand but this one sounded like that type, being for smaller egg quantities and round. I got my first chicken pets when my son couldn’t take care of his small flock anymore and brought them to me. Being new to being a hobby farmer and chicken caretaker, I have had a couple heartbreaking losses with the little bantams. Now that I am obsessed with these adorable little birds and know more about the joys and pitfalls of caring for them, I want to hatch more in small quantities to keep each other company. I think this incubator is a good choice. Before I order fertilized bantam eggs from other hobby farmers, I am learning how to use this incubator. I did a test run on it that is detailed in the instruction booklet and it slowly turned fake wooden eggs and got warm. There is a dual power supply capability and it includes an adapter that plugs into a standard household outlet, plus a cable to attach to a 12V backup battery in case of a power outage (battery not included). I need to be prepared for that and get a 12V battery because we do have power outages where I live. Two egg trays are also included, one for chicken eggs and another for small birds like quail and wild bird size eggs. Hatching quail could also be fun! One of my tiny bantams lays eggs almost as large as big hens, so they would fit the regular size tray! There are also 2 water bottles and a separate day counter device. Not all of the incubators have the water bottles. I was unable to test the candling function on the wooden eggs. Sadly, it is already getting too cold where we live and this exciting project will need to wait for warmer weather. Last spring I got 4 tiny 2 day old chicks on impulse from a farm store and had to house them for 8 weeks in our guest bathroom. After that my husband said no more chicken nurseries in the house. It’s very messy and there was lots of dust everywhere from the bedding, so I don’t recommend this unless that’s okay with your household. In the meantime, I will have time to get and assemble a bigger coop and be ready for the little ones. I will also do more tests with this incubator, like using a real unfertilized egg to see how the candler works. ... show more

  • Instructions are sometimes hard to understand...
Size: 8 eggs
I like that everything came with the incubator that was listed. Reading over the instructions the translation is really vague and hard to understand. These is just one of many. Example: IV.Precautions-#4 If the product is inconsistent with the physical object, the physical object shall prevail. Does that mean if your product doesn't look like the picture, trust your eyes? On the Amazon statement page, Example: {EQUIED WITH EGG CANDLER }- The LED cold light source does not hurt the egg, it is convenient and fast, the incubator egg situation is clear at a glance, and the bad and dead eggs can be eliminated in time. cum Watering can and day timer. "Equied" is a member horse family....? you can read the rest... That being said, the words don't take away from the product, this is just for beginners or novice. It is hard to maintain the humidity and does make the area you have this in warm and wet, so have protection on your surface. The instructions says things like: "Ventilation inlet-Turn off the switch in the early hatching period, and in the last three days of hatching, turn on half of all switches". What? I don't understand this, next... "Stop-In-In the last three days of hatching period, take off the gear egg tray and stop turning the eggs (no switch to turn off the turner, you just remove the gear, the motor is still working and you can hear it)." "Spray water on the eggs to soften the egg shells and wait for the chicks to hatch." Why is the water and the humidity not enough, are we suppose to stop the water also? Just not enough information on how to correctly use this machine for me. ... show more

  • Well made.
Size: 8 eggs
We are trying our hand at hatching our own chicks, and this seemed like a perfect incubator. It has inserts for small and large eggs (such as quail eggs) and rotates them on its own. If you've ever hatched eggs, you know it can be a pain keeping the right conditions, along with protecting the eggs from snakes and even other chickens (we have a couple that destroy eggs). This solves all of that in one nice little package. ... show more

  • Egg turner wouldn't work. Humidity monitor not accurate.
Size: 8 eggs
I had high hopes for this cute little incubator, but they were soon dashed. I like the bottles and especially their caps that make it easy to flip a full bottle and put it in place without spilling water. The temperature monitor was accurate, indicating within one degree of my external monitor with probe. The humidity consistently measured about 20% higher than my hygrometer. As the instructions say, I tested the turning system before putting eggs in it and it didn't budge. I checked everything, especially to make sure the turning gear teeth meshed with the tray teeth, then tried again and it still didn't work. I don't have time to turn eggs and there are so many good incubators available that do it for you, that I can't recommend this one. If you don't care that you might have to turn eggs manually, it would probably be fine. ... show more
