Use the six dormant tubers to add a focused splash of foliage to a shaded garden bed or outdoor planter. This plant is grown chiefly for its leaves, not for a spring flower display.
  • SIX TUBERS TO ARRANGE: Group the tubers in one appropriately sized container or divide them among a few smaller garden areas. In a bed, allow approximately 812 inches between tubers so emerging plants have room to develop. Six bulbs make a believable planting for a real home garden.
  • PLANT WHEN THE SOIL WARMS: Wait until frost has passed and garden soil is warm before planting outdoors. Place each tuber with its knobby side facing up, about 2 inches deep. Cool soil can slow growth and increase the chance of rot, so this is a warm season planting project.
  • FILTERED LIGHT AND MOIST SOIL: Choose a position with partial shade or bright filtered light and soil that drains well. Keep the soil evenly moist during active growth without leaving the tubers waterlogged. If growing in a patio pot, use a container with drainage holes.
  • PLAN FOR WINTER IN YOUR CLIMATE: Caladiums are tender perennials. Gardeners in colder regions can lift and store tubers before frost, or enjoy them as seasonal foliage plants. Soooo pretty. They were a few days behind the other caladium bulbs I planted, but a heavy rain seemed to trigger all the growing, twelve bulbs in all. And everyone is a winner. If you have the right location for these insanely beautiful plants, you cannot go wrong with these bulbs. I added compost manure when planting, and the foliage came up so brightly colored and happy, they make me happy! I wish I could have a field filled with Caladiums!! If You are not sure about where or how to plant, Google is a tremendous information resource. I ask Google questions such as, How deep should I plant this lily bulb, or, does this Chinese Snowball like compost…should I use 10-10-10 when planting a new pawpaw tree? Update: It is now June, a year on, and sadly only two of these Caladiums have come up so far. I am still hopeful. They do surprise me. ... show more

    • Sad looking pot of dirt with nothing growing since January
Purchased in January. I tried starting these using a heat mat and grow lights so they would be ready to go when the weather warms up. All of my other plants are growing well, while none of these have grown. I got 6 duds... I tried contacting the seller through their web site as directed in the packaging materials. No response. I should have contacted through amazon, but at this point, I'm writing them off. This seller has a lot of interesting looking bulbs, but I won't be buying any more. I'm glad I decided to just order one pack. No pic because it would just be a sad looking pot of dirt with nothing growing. ... show more

Beautiful Caladium. I put 6 bulbs in about 3 weeks ago and it was about 10 days before I noticed 1 plant coming through the dirt then all 6 bulbs started showing the dirt. At first I thought I had turned the bulbs the wrong way so I was worried until I noticed the first bulb coming through. Now there is lots of plants filling the pot and they’re beautiful with the crimson color. In the photo you can see smaller plants coming through. I would recommend these bulbs but you have to ensure that they are put in the correct way. ... show more

Only two of the six have broken thru the ground, so far. I did soak them 1/2 hour in water before I planted them. I saw them break thru the soil in about 3 weeks. Have them under an umbrella to protect them from the AZ sun. They look just as pictured. UPDATE: All six have broken thru the soil and are now growing like crazy. Looking great along with the cranberry dot (white leaves with cranberry dots thru out the leaves). Nice color combination. I like CD Grains as a supplier. ... show more

Not the colors advertised in the main photo, but they did germinate and are still producing up to now. At first I received rotten, molden bulbs that smelled, but the seller replaced them. You have to make sure they are positioned correctly or else they wont grow correctly. I had to fix mines, once I looked and saw they were sprouting roots. I get compliments on the appearance and am happy even though they are not what I expected. ... show more

Terrible I bought 3 varieties to equal more than 25 bulbs and only 2 came up …. Never had that happen with caladium … ever ! I’m really not happy .
