  • Sturdy
Size: 53.5" x 44.6" x 5"
This roof basket is sturdy and well made although some of the welds weren’t complete so I used black exterior caulking to make sure water couldn’t get in. I also painted 2 coats of rustoleum paint on the rack because some reviews said it rusted quickly. It was missing all the hardware so instead of returning the entire rack they gave me a credit and I’ll use it to buy mounting hardware. The good thing is it’s all one piece no assembly required and it’s heavy duty. At 200 bucks it’s a deal considering many of the name brands are anywhere from 500 to 1500 and probably not as sturdy. If anybody is worried about rust just get it professionally powder coated and you’re still a lot less than the name brands. Installing on my Snugtop this week and I’ll be ready to go. ... show more

  • One Solid Construction Basket
Size: 53.5" x 44.6" x 5"
This product is quite well made and is in one piece. The faring is already attached and is blank so that you can add your own decals or flair to make it yours. The hardware is a little tall for the type of rail system I have, but should fit well for Toyota or systems that have flat bars that are closer to the vehicle roof. Very sturdy construction. Seller is in USA and that’s a big bonus. Quick shipping from seller. The paint is thick and not cheap like some other racks I’ve seen in this price point. Very happy with this purchase for a Porsche Cayenne. Looks sharp. ... show more

  • Good Basket, But Tighten All Bolts First
Size: 53.5" x 44.6" x 5"
Installed it yesterday. Driving home last night, I hear this "tink" on the roof, stopped to investigate, found one bolt of the front fairing missing, and its nut and one other nut also missing. The ones that were still there were loose. Since I carry tools, I tightened the ones that remained so as not to maybe lose the fairing before I got home. Also seem to have lost one of the mounting nuts. Nice, bright-but-not-chrome shoulder nuts, which had crept off the mounting bolts during shipment, but should still have been in the bag they came in, but I couldn't find it. Probably find it on the floor sometime next week, but if it was there, it sneaked out pretty effectively when I opened the bag. I managed to find a nut around here that would work, in spite of it being metric, which is an annoyance. I have metric tools, but not metric deep sockets which would be needed to tighten these nuts since the bracket ends stick up so high. Ended up tightening them with an end wrench. Will buy a 13mm deep socket at the store today, and put it with the car so's I can use sockets, maybe an impact wrench to rapidly install and remove this. Am heading for Alaska and the Dalton Highway, so this will carry 2 spare tires that are recommended for that. After that, I'll remove it so's I can use an automatic car wash again. I expect to be installing and removing this basket a lot. I might also be removing the Yakima roof rack bars too unless I need 'em for something specific, as they are easily removed and replaced too. The actual area of the basket is less than the overall dimensions, so 2 28" tires will not fit down inside as I had hoped, but will be resting on the the rails. Not as cool looking, but then again I'm just interested in having 2 spare tires like is recommended for this road, without being 500 miles from the nearest tire store with a space-saver spare that is only good for about 50 miles, probably less on that gravel. Wind noise is noticeable at 55, very noticeable at 80. Since there's some 80 mph roads between here and Alaska, I think that's important, but I think the noise is not so much that it will be a problem. I can turn the radio / book-on-tape up, and otherwise I don't think it'll be a psychological drain or anything. People used to ride around with all 4 windows down before air conditioning was common, and this is quieter than that. Overall, it seems to be a really nice basket with some fastener issues, which are fairly easily mitigated. I'd recommend it to a friend, with the caution of tightening every bolt in the fairing before doing anything else, and purchasing a 13mm deep socket. I may also double-nut the mounting bolts, as they're not too terribly snug but tightening them further might damage the Yakima crossbars I have. I also bought 3/8" neoprene fuel hose and sliced it on one side to shove over the mounting hardware to protect my Yakima bars from too much pressure in too small an area, maybe denting them. But otherwise, mitigation of problems and perceived issues is easy, and this unit is much more reasonably priced than a lot of others, and even looks good. ... show more

  • First Impressions Are Basically Good
Size: 53.5" x 44.6" x 5"
I bought this cargo rack for my wife's Jeep Renegade after doing a ton of research. I actually tried to order a different model from another company, but it was going to take several weeks to receive. After more research on Amazon, I settled for this one. Like other reviewers, the single piece construction sold me. Things I like about it (besides the single construction): -It is sized well, whereas many other cargo cages are smaller. It isn't overbearing on the Renegade (which is fairly small). -The fastening brackets do not protrude up into the cage, but fit flush. Other racks have brackets that aren't flush and make it more difficult to slide things in the cage. The brackets are not thumb tightened like some, but I don't view that as a negative because my preference is to make sure it is cinched down tightly with a wrench. It might take longer to install than others, but again, not a concern for me. -The finish is decent. I put it in the 'like' category, because for this price I worried about a much less refined coating on the rack. -I personally like the sleek angles on front and back; other cages can be a little boxy looking. A couple of things I am not wild about: -The hardware that fastens the wind fairing in the front. I envision problems in the days ahead with the plastic parts. Moreover, all the bolts but two were rattled out in shipping and I had to fish around the box to find the nuts and bolts. I thought I was going to have to run to the hardware store for a bolt, but finally found it when I tore the box apart for recycling (it was wedged under a flap). -The wind fairing itself is a little flimsy. It's plastic, and not particularly rigid plastic. As another reviewer mentioned, the indentations from the bolts when tightened down are very visible. -Mine came with a bad weld on one of the cross pieces. Not just a bad weld, but a open gap into the hollow tubing (Attaching a photo for a visual). I think the integrity is decent in spite of the poor weld, but this is a place that weight in the rack and road vibration could weaken. I used some black caulk to seal the opening. I have had it installed for over a week now. The wind noise at freeway speeds is noticeable, but not overwhelming. I get wind noise with just my cross bars on top and don't think adding the cargo cage increases much. Haven't checked gas mileage, but it is to be expected that it would impact efficiency. To be sure, it comes in a giant box, and the rack is enveloped in a giant plastic 'baggie.' Low budget, but it worked without damage. And the shipping was free - big plus. All in all, I am satisfied. The price was good and I will get some years out of this. When/if I have to replace it, I won't feel too badly because of the budget friendly price. ... show more
