  • Immediately helpful for an issue
I'm an intermediate diy wrencher: comfortable with basic maintenance and some mild troubleshooting and replacing. But sometimes I have to admit I don't have the right tool or expertise to troubleshoot a problem. Had an issue with one of my cars: an intermittent stutter/misfire under load that my shop wasn't able to replicate for diagnosis. Mechanic gave me a list of few potential things that could cause the problem, but it wasn't throwing a code or misfiring on their drive about. I knew I wanted to handle it before it was a real problem or left me stranded. I had a Bluetooth scanner and app, but the log didn't monitor some sensors (or required advanced config). I did some maintenance items (plugs, wires, and checked for vac leaks only to have the symptom randomly return. So I picked this, hoping for more visibility and within a 10 minute drive, I was able to tell which cylinder was misfiring and was able to test and replace the bad ignition coil pack. Went for a long drive, stopped/restarted and drove back, let it cool and went for another drive without a single misfire detected in the log. It just paid for it's place in my toolbox. As far as scanners go, this is pretty basic, it doesn't have customized manufacturer profiles and cannot read things from the canbus, abs, or airbag system, but it will help with retrieving codes, logging the basic sensors, and running a few sensor tests on your O2 sensors or evap system. It doesn't have a case or anything really but the device and a short manual. But even with its spartan features this was a pretty good value as a helper tool to me. ... show more

  • OBD2 Scanner.
I'm an older seasoned automotive technician, I'm reviewing this product based on my many years of experience in the field using high quality tools and equipment. This mini scanner is for OBD 2 based vehicles (96 and newer), won't work on pre-96 vehicles. Scanner is small, which includes the even smaller screen. Has a trouble code "lookup" library, but the codes I tried to look up were not in the database, so may only be for primary codes like engine misfire, oxygen sensor, or TPS related codes and such. This is basically a code reader, it will do a basic data stream of information. Compared to our normal commercial grade shop scanner showed the readings to be reasonably correct. No storage case other than the box. Instruction booklet is very poor. Might be good to just throw in the glove box to have when traveling, or very basic diagnostics. Price point is considered reasonable for this item. ... show more

  • Works well
I have a 2010 Hyundai Sonata and the check engine light has been on since I had bought it. I decided to get a code reader and finally have an understanding of what is wrong with my car. It works well.
