These steamer bags are becoming more popular as you can save money by buying bulk vegetables and steaming a serving instead of buying the prepackaged steamer bags. We steam a lot of vegetables in a bowl with saran wrap, so this was a welcome shortcut. There are 24 bags, so you get quite a few in the package. They also claim to be reusable (more on that later). The bags come printed with recommended times. We found the times to be slightly longer than we wanted, and used less time than recommended. The bags seal and stay sealed, and after a few minutes we had nicely steamed broccoli. We then washed it by hand, and tried it again with carrots. The bag did not stay sealed and started to give off an odd odor. For that reason alone, I'm very skeptical about the claim that these are reusable. They seem fine for one-time use, but I wouldn't use them more than once or twice. It's certainly not any better than a bowl with saran wrap, as you get the same final product. This would only be better if you wanted to freeze some products that you could quickly heat in the microwave, similar to the frozen vegetables you would buy at a store. But to steam vegetables for meals, I think I would rather use a bowl with wrap than reach for one of these. If you were looking for these, you get 24 so they're a good deal. But I wouldn't get these if you're happy steaming vegetables the old fashioned way.

The steamer bags have several nice features. At the Aldi store near me, Brussels sprouts come pre-packaged in microwavable bags. I am always impressed by the quick cooking time and delicious taste with no cleanup at all. These SEL Natural bags have several nice features and also produce delicious veggies. PROS: * High-quality, Food Grade SEL NATURAL Steam cooking microwave bags measure 8.6” x 7.9" and are BPA free. They hold approximately 3-4 servings of vegetables per bag. * Healthy “steaming” of foods in SEL bags retains more of the nutrients than any other type of cooking. * Reusable bags are available in different quantities and become more economical: 12 bags at $1.00 each; 24 bags at $0.72 each; 50 bags at $0.52 each; 100 bags at $0.34 each. * Strong and sturdy bags are freezer safe and can go directly into the microwave, with the addition of a small amount of cooking time. This saves even more time preparing meals! * Meats, seafood and veggies are ideally cooked in a very short time in the bags, as compared with other methods. * Leftover veggies, meat and fish can be reheated in a bag. * Complete, “Easy-to-follow” instructions are printed right on each bag, along with recommendations for cooking 14 different foods. No need to search on the box. * Bags are very easy to use: (1) Place cut or uncut items to be cooked inside the bag, keeping food within the "Full bag" line. For smaller servings, fill to the "Half bag" line. (2) Add seasonings and “1 TBS. of water” to the bags for vegetables only. (3) Spread items into a flat, even layer, being careful not to overlap meats. Seal ziplock bag firmly and securely. (4) Lay bag flat in the microwave with "COOK WITH THIS SIDE UP" label on top. (5) Cooking time guidelines for different foods are printed right on the bag. If a specific food is not listed, start with 3 minutes cook time. You can always add more time if necessary. (6) Allow bag to stand for 1 minute or more to cool slightly before opening, reducing escaping steam exposure. (7) Hold bag at top, and open slowly and CAREFULLY, pointing bag away from face and body. ESCAPING STEAM will rush out of the bag as it is slowly opened. * Microwave cooking times are given for 1100 watt microwave ovens. Add an additional 1 minute for 800 watt ovens. CONS: * Be careful not to overlap meats, fish and poultry inside of bags. * Keep all plastic bags away from babies and young children. * Keep bags away from an open flame on your stovetop. SUMMARY: These high-quality, sturdy, reusable bags are more economical when purchased in bulk. 100 bags sell for only $0.34 per bag. **I received this item for "free" (I'm responsible for paying taxes on the retail value) as part of the Amazon Vine program, but my only goal here is to provide an honest and unbiased review to help you in your purchasing decision. I have no incentive to do otherwise: **Update 3/8/25 -- Still loving these bags, and just wanted to let you know that yes, they're reusable. I've used one bag several times so far without issue. And I steamed a russet potato for 10 minutes in the microwave, and it came out perfect. Soft on the inside, and the skin was still moist. I then seasoned it (olive oil and garlic powder) and finished it off in my air fryer. I couldn't have been happier with the results from the steaming bag. Still highly recommend these. Have you ever purchased Trader Joe's frozen rice? You know how it puffs up in the microwave for the last 45 or so seconds and subsequently steams the rice? That's what's going on with these bags. I used my first one today with frozen edamame and it worked extremely well. I followed the bag instructions, which says to add 1 tablespoon of water if steaming vegetables. The pods came out hot and moist. They were perfect, to be quite honest. I'm really looking forward to using these bags for other foods as well, like a baked potato, which I always start in the microwave for 10 minutes and then transfer to a regular oven (or toaster oven or air fryer) for the remaining 10 or 15 minutes. When doing the baked potato, I drench some paper towels in water and wrap them around the potato before putting them in the microwave. With these bags, I don't think I'll have to do that, which will be really nice. Bonus feature is that these are reusable, according to the product listing, which makes them an even better value. I'll update my review if I find these can't be reused, but as long as they can be, I can definitely recommend these.
