Awesome deal for a 5 string bluegrass banjo based on the standard prewar Gibson. I had no idea I could get this type of banjo for under a grand. I took a chance on it and here to my surprise is what I found. First off it is beautiful with the hearts and flower inlays on the fretboard. I had no high frets and they are pretty smooth. I will polish them when I do a string change. The gloss finished neck feels good and it has a nice binding around it and the resonator. The nut looks like bone and not plastic and the 5/8" bridge I think is maple and purple heart wood. The headstock with its mother of pearl inlay is beautiful also. The orbital geared tuners are very nice and work well along with the 5th string geared tuner. The chrome plated hardware seems of good quality my hope and surprise came when I removed the resonator and found a real 20 hole tone ring and dual coordinating rods. The chance I took on buying this was worth it for sure now. I am not quite sure what the tone ring is made of but I am pretty sure it is not bronze or brass. It has a nice thick wood rim that looks like it is constructed like a block constructed rim. I scrapped the tone ring on the chrome plating and it showed a grey silver color making me think it is a zinc or some sort of other metal tone ring (I did not see a bronze color). Down the Road (no pun intended) when the Remo head is bad and needs replacing I will remove the tone ring and weigh it. I suspect is that it will weigh anywhere from 2 to 3 pounds since the whole banjo weighs around 11 lbs. Folks this is a great deal for a banjo of this quality. Best kept secret on Amazon for a banjo player looking for a quality instrument! Oh I forgot it also come in a really nicely padded gig bag too. ... show more

I didn't want to a whole lot of money for a good quality banjo, so I stumbled upon this and gave it a try and I'm glad I did. When I first it came in a pretty good bag, but when I tried to tune it it simply would not hold to tune. But it simply just needed the tuning pegs to be tighten with a screw driver so if you run into the same problem try that. Overall a very good banjo for the price, it has a great sound and so far I haven't ran into any issues even the strings are quite good 10/10 ... show more

This is the second banjo I’ve bought from Amazon. The first one was fine- cheaper, lighter and good quality but I gave it to my daughter who wanted to learn. 🤪 This one is noticeably heavier so takes some getting used to but seems like good quality. I haven’t put new strings on it yet as I did with the first one. I have some low event winter months coming up to really test it out.     • Couple of problems right off
First: Tail piece is JUNK all though it looks good in the photos. And it was so screwed down it was almost touching the head which is totally wrong. It was impossible to adjust the pitch because the screw was frozen and locked solid. Also the lugs holding the resonator are nearly impossible to reinstall once taken out because the nuts they go into to rotate 360° and I can’t see a way of tightening them. I managed to get three back in and called it good! The fretboard is very dry, like all Chinese instruments when you get them. Put some lemon oil on yours. Now the good: The bridge is actually pretty good, and surprisingly the 3rd string is composited! I am anxious to hear it with a better bridge and some USA strings. May post a video when I do that. I would buy it again. I’m wondering how the other banjos they sell are? I think it sounds great and I own a Stelling a SwallowTail AND a Gibson. I bought this to play outside at the fire pit but I would play this at a jam or on stage once I change the strings. I may keep the bridge on it. ... show more

I bought this after first trying the $153 no tone ring model. Should have gotten this one first. Sustain must be 5 times as long. Tone and volume are amazing. Planetary tuners are a pleasure, once you snug them up. Feels like the real deal.

Great banjo for the price. Tightened nuts a little on tuning keys and been staying tuned for weeks. Ended up buying a hard shell case also.
