I'm pretty stoked about the kindling splitter. We usually run out of the stuff before the end of winter, and searching for more is a chore that's not really that pleasant in the sub-zero to 20's out here in the windy winter part of the country. This is NOT a log splitter! This is for small wooden already split or small branches that have been cut into lengths. Trying to split logs on here is dangerous and dang dumb, especially with a 6 to 10 maul or sledgehammer. For one, that sledgehammer hits that tip and you could end up somewhere else, and none of those places are good! This is a nicely made kindling splitter. The top wedge is nice and sharp enough the start the splitting. This splitter is perfect for splitting down cut up lengths of pallet wood, salvaged lumber, bamboo, dried branches, etc... Best with a small hand sledgehammer. Maybe up to 4#. You just need to use the wedge and the rest is easy! The value for this kindling splitter is descent and you should get half of a lifetime out of it. PS... thanks for the baby screws. This kindling splitter is getting the lag bolts treatment!

This is handy for creating fire starter at camp. Once mounted at home, it reduces the effort needed to bust down fire wood into starter and kindling. A mallet can be used instead of balancing a piece of firewood while trying to pound a knife down through it. Having the wedge mounted securely allows one hand on wood and the other on a hammer or mallet. There is a sturdy rubber cover for the sharp edge. I recommend making a wood block that could sit on it so it someone fell they would not be insured. This product is made from thick steel that seems adequately welded where it counts. The bottom of center blade/wedge section has pegs that go through the main frame. This is good in that it adds strength and counters it from bending to one side or another.

It’s built solid and the included blade cover is a good safety touch. For thin, straight‐grained wood it does an okay job, especially when mounted securely. But when I tried it on tougher or thicker pieces, it struggled. If your firewood is already split into manageable chunks, this can work fine. But don’t expect it to replace an axe or maul for heavy work.

The media could not be loaded. I was really excited to try this product out because it seemed like a much safer alternative than swinging an axe over your head, however, I discovered that it has a pretty major design flaw. The wood we used to test with this is relatively soft wood being pine. We went ahead and installed the device properly and mounted it properly with an impact wrench and bolts. We used multiple sledgehammers of different weights and still had no luck splitting a pretty soft wood on this thing. We discovered that the issue is that there’s a pre-significant design flaw in it. While the leading edge is very sharp, and while you’re not swinging around a razor sharp edge, the device flares out too fast and instead of gradually allowing the wood to split, the excessive flaring causes the wood to become trapped on the device before it has a chance to split. The wood was so tight on the device that it sheared a bolt that was mounting it. Kind of unbelievable, but it just sheared right through a bolt that was meant to keep it secure and safe. Just be sure there was not some odd thing going on with the wood we then used a traditional wood splitting axe and had no problems at all with this piece of wood splitting it multiple times. It was a piece of cake. That was so unfortunate. I really thought that we had something that was safer than swinging around an axe, but instead because of the design, it appears to be even more dangerous than using a traditional axe to split wood. Which ever method you choose I hope you remain safe with how you use it but because of our experience with this, we can only give it two stars.

So far, so good... Much better than swinging an ax over your head trying to hit a small piece of kindling. I have not used a similar product before, but this one seems to work well. While it may be finicky based on the type of wood and the length, I've learned to cut the pieces shorter and it works much better. After a bit of effort and a little practice, I now have a decent size of kindling with much less effort than swinging a splitting ax... At this point I would definitely recommend, and would purchase again. If any issues develope, I will update my review.

I got this hoping this splitter could maybe be used as a log splitter but found it is truly met to cut up already split wood into small pieces of kindling. It actually works great for its intended use. It is small, and can easily be attached to a bigger log or board. The blade is very sharp and appears durable. I think where people are disappointed is when they are expecting this to be a log splitter which it is not intended to be.

This is a heavy little thing! Won’t go anywhere once you screw it down. Has a little protective cover on it which I know won’t last long cuz I’ll loose it but grateful it came with. Makes splitting kindling a quicker job

Interesting way to split kindling without risking your fingers. I only used it a little so far but like the concept. Very dry wood will work much better if you have that available. Thanks.
