Nice product. Welds are very smooth... well done. I'm using this for a home fireplace insert, so I don't need it to be portable. I have a gas powered log splitter, this is strictly for making kindling. Several minor issues. 1. The bottom is a bit warped so it doesn't sit perfectly flat on a concrete surface. When I screw it down on a stump, that wont matter. 2. The sharpened edge is not that sharp. It was sufficient, but I'll likely take it to the grinder to put a better edge on it. 3. It works pretty well for shorter 10-12" logs. But for longer 18" logs it struggles sometimes. Instead of only 7" tall, this would work much better at 9-12". 4. The screws that come with it are barely adequate. Buy your own 1/4" lags and you'll be happier ... show more

Seems to be well made. Not made for cutting into rounds or large pieces of wood. Best for cutting small pieces of wood into kindling, and it seems to do it quite well with seasoned hardwoods. Screws for its anchors are a joke, as expected. Happy with purchase so far.

very handy device, mount it to a stump in the yard and split logs right next to the fire as you need them (once they are dry), seems as good as any of the other designs with 4 blades, or fancy flanges or serrated edges or all the other designs you see, simple very sturdy wedge works good for me. welds look to be of high quality. corrosion might be an issue so consider covering or greasing at the end of the season. don't use the included screws, get some 3" wood screws to secure it. ... show more
