Nice compact size to bring camping. Does a great job with kindling, and with a 4 lb hammer will split 6" wide 16" long firewood billets with a few strikes. More controlled than an axe or hatchet - I use it from my chair in front of the fire, even when it's dark. Size: Small 3-Inch
This product has two design flaws that render it ineffective and a waste of money. First, the item is too short and so unless you are splitting a very short piece of wood, the wood won't fully split because it will get "stopped" by whatever is underneath the splitter (e.g., the ground or a tree stump or whatever). Second, the sides of the splitter are not "smooth" and so just below the blade the wood gets "stuck" when splitting. I regret buying this. ... show more

Split some oak on it, bent the heck out of the blade; couldn't take it. It's probably better for soft woods; but then again, who wants to burn soft woods?

Got a chance to use this tonight. We'll worth the money. I can you a mini sledge hammer 🔨 now to split wood with it. I did sharpen it with a file like some people suggested, but other than that I really appreciate it. Had the perfect stump to mount it to and had a role of some rope so I added a little handle.
