  • Works well! Don't forget the APN settings!
I needed something to plug into our car so we can have WiFi on the go. It sticks out pretty far some I'm a bit worried about it getting bumped, but it seems to be working fine so far with Google Fi. Two reminders: - change your APN settings! It's not "plug and play" - it comes with a micro SIM slot, not nano like most of the providers use. So unless you already have a nano to micro converter, you'll need to buy one ... show more

  • Doesn’t work
Doesn’t do anything at all after plugged in. Won’t read it after inserted into ANY USB slot of any device. No directions came with it and no product support online besides a video that isn’t in any other language except Chinese

  • Seemed like a quality product, but couldn't get a SIM card that works with it.
I bought this but returned it. If I could have bought a SIM card that it recognized, it might have been worth five stars. When I plugged the modem into my Linux laptop, it automatically made it the default network route via USB. Alternately, when I plugged it into a non-PC USB for power only, I was able to select it to be the default route via WiFi. I easily logged into the the on-device website in my browser with both methods. Those are the positives. But I was never able to transfer even a single byte through it. In spite of the apparent quality of the product itself, they gave no helpful information on what kind of SIM card to buy or who to buy it from. My favorite MVNO company said their SIM would work so I bought it, but it didn't. The micro-SIM fit perfectly, but only six of the eight spring-loaded contacts on the modem made with corresponding contacts on the SIM. The LED flashed red, meaning it didn't recognize it. The flimsy little instruction paper that came with it was printed with such small type that I literally needed a magnifying glass to read it. The diagram showing how to install the SIM was unhelpful even under magnification. Most such devices have a PDF manual you can download from a company website, but if this one has either a website or a manual, I couldn't find it. I ran out of time fighting with it before my trip, so it was worthless to me. Very frustrating. I don't know if it would have ultimately worked well or not. ... show more

  • Took specific settings to get it to work, somewhat buggy, but works
I put a Google Fi data only sim in (with a nano to micro sim adapter). Google Fi uses T-mobile towers so the bands should be supported. I created an APN profile for Google Fi (h2g2). On restart, it seemed to initially connect, got a wan IP and a few kilobytes flowed each way. But within 30 seconds or so, connection switched to unknown and/or limited and kept toggling between the two, wan IP is dropped, no connection. After a long time troubleshooting, I realized that the network selection mode, which is "4G/3G/2G" by default, does not work properly (probably because T-mobile shut down their 3g network but this device keeps trying to connect and failing). Once I set it to "4G only", it was able to maintain a connection. It seems this is made by a company called Kuwfi, which is mentioned in the manual. The software is buggy. There is a spot in the webui to upload new firmware but I did not see any reference to any firmware provided online. ... show more

  • works with T-Mobile
the UI is a little bit clunky but it's pretty reliable about connecting even in degraded RF environments like busy airports and onboard aircraft. Under those conditions it's usually got better data speed than my phone. It's Linux compatible (it better be, inside it's a little Linux machine) and acts like any other usb network device when plugged into my laptop or travel router. As it implements a CDC-NCM interface it should just work on any modern operating system. If you can't use usb, it also has a built-in wifi router (which I haven't used except to test that I can connect to it.) I wish there was an easier way to password protect it so that if it goes missing someone can't rack up huge data charges. ... show more

  • No Regrets
I have had this gadget for about a year now. It still works. Easy to use. I live in Jamaica just so you know. It works with the service providers there. Just get a sim.

  • Save your time: If you're on a Mac, do not buy this.
The upside: This device does work and I can connect to the internet with this device. The downside: It will not work on my MacBook. I was able to get this device running and connected to the Internet using my iPad, but everytime I tried to connect my Mac into this Hotspot through wifi, the Hotspot will reboot, and the behavior was consistent, which is unfortunate. I tried searching this problem up, which led me to booting my Mac into Safe Mode to troubleshoot, and the problem persisted. I tried to mitigate this problem by plugging this device into my Mac directly and getting internet that way... Unfortunately, MacOS does not natively support USB tethering, or at least the kind that this device uses. I've tried to install the Mac driver that came with this device, but it was too out of date. Cluing into the fact that the driver was called "RNDIS", I tried searching for an up-to-date driver with the assumption that whoever developed the firmware took an off-the-shelf driver they found online. That led me to finding a driver called "HoRNDIS" which also turned out to be out-of-date. I tried everything I could to get it to work, from turning off SIP, re-compiling the driver to ARM, downloading a forked version of HoRNDIS, and using a version of HoRNDIS I downloaded off a youtube video. The last one did actually install, but it would not use my hotspot for internet despite the hotspot being recognized by my Mac. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this, especially if you're on a Mac, it'll be a waste of time trying to get this device to work. ... show more
