  • THIS WATER SOFTENER IS WORKING GREAT FOR ME
I bought this particular water softener after reading expert on-line reviews and ratings. If you are not handy doing DIY plumbing projects yourself then you should consider having a plumber install, especially if you have copper piping. I have PEX (plastic) piping which is a breeze to change / modify / reconfigure using off the shelf twist connect fittings. I had to completely re-arrange my piping in my mechanical space to install the system, but even with that the whole project took less than 3 hours. A lot of pre planning research, drawing work and pieces and parts are necessary to complete the project successfully. For example, at the very least you will need to purchase two standard quick connect flexible hoses required to connect the softener system head assembly to your water piping. These are $30 each available a major hardware stores and designed for this specific installation. In total I spent $180 on accessories but I did have to do a lot of re-arranging piping and the PEX quick connectors are not cheap. You also have to figure out where and how to connect the system drain as well. There are some excellent YouTube videos detailing the installation of this particular system so putting it together was relatively easy. My equipment package also came with a ZIP drive with very useful detailed instructions on it. Programming the unit is probably the most intense part of the installation but again if you have read the literature and watched the videos it is relatively simple. I would recommend having your water tested by a lab and don't rely on the included test strip. For the cost of a $50 lab test it is well worth it and more accurate. The mineral content of your water is an important setting for the equipment. After setting it all up and turning everything back on almost immediately we had soft, clear, delightful water throughout our house. We live on well water in NC mountains, our mineral content is quite high and the difference with the softened water on your skin, in your hair and to drink is amazing. My only regret is that I did not install this system four years ago. ... show more

  • Works perfectly and we saved $700+ on the old unit replacement.
Our home has a well and a water softener system installed by the previous owner. The entire system is now 19 years old and recently our water became hard (started seeing water spots on the coffee maker). I tested it with a Hach 5b test kit (read 13 grains post softener) and I called the local water treatment company that installed the system for service. A drive motor assembly and wiring harness needed to be replaced ($334), or they could put in a new softener at $1,299 plus installation. It didn't seem to be a good idea to put the repair money into an old system that I learned was probably due for a resin bed soon also. I researched the unit we had and found this unit was the modern digital version. We bought the 48K capacity unit and I installed it yesterday. With basic plumbing skills, there wasn't any difficulty, though this tank was taller than our old one and I had to get plumbing supplies. I tested the water this morning and the sample turned blue without having to add reagent, indicating our water is now dead soft, less than 1 grain, and better than the old softener numbers. Our home system has a bleach tank with Stenner pump feeding into the aerator and a carbon filter before the softener tank, for what it's worth. No regrets on this purchase and am glad I didn't get one from the box hardware stores. 2020 Update: Added one of their Carbon filters instead of repairing our old one and replacing the carbon. Awwesome water now. ... show more

  • Appears to be a good softener
The box the softener arrived in was very badly damaged and one end was completely open. However, it appears we received all of the parts we needed and they weren't damaged. Our plumber installed the unit and it appears to be working as described. We will update this review if we have any future issues. ... show more

  • Just installed, but love it so far!
Will update as time goes on to give a better description of the water feeling change. I just installed this unit, so this review is going to be mainly on the delivery, item, and installation process to start. I ordered from Aplus Water specifically over other sellers of the same unit because their reviews were so good (100%) and a few people remarked that the YouTube installation video they emailed you a link to was amazingly easy to follow (very important in my amateur book). I had a non-working old GE water softener that I needed replaced, so the plumbing was already installed for me. Softener delivered in less than 5 days (quicker than expected) in 2 boxes - one tall 70+ pounds and one that was tall but lightweight. Turned off the water, unhooked our old unit, and turned on the 24 min YouTube video that was sent in a separate email from the seller and followed along step-by-step. SO EASY. Note that they don't provide everything you need, so you will have to make a Home Depot run for (most likely) a 1/2" drain line, 2 fasteners, and 2 shark bite tubes that link from your intake and outtake pipes to the unit. We spent around $60 for additional parts with the shark bite parts being about $22/piece for a 2 ft one at Home Depot (we needed about 1.5 feet, but they only had 2 ft in stock). Stocked the salt reservoir with about 160 pounds of salt to begin with and set it to regenerate. We were able to put the salt container behind the tall resin container for a more compact look since we got the 2 ft shark bite tubes, so that was great in the end! Note - our drain line goes into our attic and back down into our laundry drain. Installation and setup took less than 3 hours (including a Home Depot run), but I feel like we could have gone quicker if we had just pulled up the YouTube video before even unloading the boxes and watched the beginning of the video to kick us off quicker. It made a daunting task extremely easy. After setup, I had a question I emailed the seller and they called me back within MINUTES with the answer - wonderful service. ... show more
