  • Great value drop-in replacement.
Style: One Door
Assuming these continue to work, these are a perfect replacement for a failed sensor. I actually like that these only come with a short bit of connection wire and that you have to use a separate wire to make the run to the garage door opener. I had to replace an existing sensor not because the sensor was bad, but because the wire had gotten brittle and was making intermittent connection, so I was going to have to get new wire anyway. 2 of my sensors are in a place where they can get wet, so if one does fail because it gets too wet I won't have to rerun the wire again. The sensors come with simple clear instructions and little connectors so safely "splice" the pigtail with whatever wire you use to run to the opener. They fit perfectly in the brackets I already had. ... show more

  • Work just fine, but what a pain in the anatomy to install!
Style: One Door
Let me say, right up front, that the product works just fine. The sensors themselves are nearly identical (more on that later) to the ones that originally came with my garage door opener all those years ago. The reason it lost two stars (and I almost dinged it for three) is the horrible installation procedure. What the seller does not tell you is that these are not the exact same sensors as your originals in that the wires on them are only 12" inches long. When I saw those puny wires I said to myself, "I don't think these will reach from the garage floor to the top of the door to the middle of the garage and then to my opener." Although the seller included most of the installation instructions in the product description, they conveniently left out the part where the wires are only 12" long and that to install the new sensors you need to cut the wires off of your existing sensors and reuse the wires. Another vital piece of information strategically omitted is that the original sensors (at least mine) had colored LED housings. At a glance (even when not yet installed or hooked up), it's obvious which sensor had the amber LED (the transmitter) and which one had the green LED (the receiver). The replacement sensors have clear LED housings and the sensor housings are completely devoid of markings, so you have to use trial and error to determine which one is which. Now, this ambiguity might not be a problem if you were replacing both of the sensors. However, if you're in a hypothetical situation where (for example) your son decided to get the snowblower out of the garage while paying no attention at all to the garage door sensors and you only needed to replace the sensor with the smashed housing, this is a problem. Since the sensors are mounted near the floor, the installation process involves crawling around on your hands and knees while you: - Cut the existing sensor wires; - Separate the old wires stapled to the garage wall at sensor level; - Strip the insulation off the ends of the existing wires; - Temporarily hold the set of white wires together with one hand; - Temporarily hold the set of striped wires together with another hand; - With your third hand, try to aim the receiver at the transmitter and try to establish a beam so you can check the LED color to determine if you're holding the replacement transmitter or receiver; - Curse because you chose the wrong sensor; - Re-do three of the previous four steps. Speaking as a person who has only two hands, I found this to be exceptionally difficult (except for the cursing part, which was about as easy as it normally is). As I mentioned earlier, the sensors are externally essentially identical to the old ones (except for the mystery LED housings), so I could re-use the old mounting nut and wingnut, so at least I didn't need to crawl around on my hands and knees to install a new one. And the little crimp ends were easy enough to use (other than the whole "crawling around on your hands and knees" part). Another thing not mentioned int he product description is that at the end of installation you'll have an extra 16" of wire (the 12" on the new sensor and the 4" of old wire below the bottom staple) to bunch up and secure so that the excess wire doesn't get caught on anything and get ripped out. Now, I understand the manufacturer not wanting to spend the extra 10 cents to include the same amount of wire as the original sensors (the wires are aluminum or some other silver metal, rather than the copper wires in the original, so maybe not even 10 cents). In fact, before I actually received the sensors I had considered cutting the original wires and doing a splice job to avoid the hassle of re-running and re-stapling the wires all the way to the opener. But it would have been nice to have a choice as to how to install the replacement. If the manufacturer would have spent and extra 1.5 cents and made the wires five or six feet long, most of my gripes would have been addressed. The extra length would have allowed the purchaser to do all of the cutting, wire stripping, and crimping at chest level, rather than while crawling around at floor level. ... show more

  • Compatible with more than the brands listed
Style: One Door + Bracket
I was hesitant to buy this because nothing in the description explicitly mentioned compatibility with my opener (an old Martin 3700e), but I read elsewhere that these safety sensors are almost always brand agnostic, and that proved to be true in my case. Be aware that even if your door isn't one of the ones listed in the product description (Craftsman, Chamberlain, Liftmaster), there's a good chance this will still work with yours. I would echo two criticisms that I've read on other reviews: the wires from the sensors are perhaps a foot long at most, requiring you to splice them into your existing sensors' wires (which I imagine could be a PITA if you don't know what you're doing). There is also no indication of which sensor is the transmitter (i.e., the one with the amber light which is always on) and which one is the receiver (i.e., the green light - this one is on only when in line of sight with the transmitter). Excellent value for the price - I can finally close my garage door again, and despite the low price, these are clearly superior to the manufacturer's originals. ... show more

  • Perfect replacements units for OEM. Replaced a another pair (new) that did not work
Style: One Door
Great quality, easy 4 wire install. Works. Replaced a set of other sensors that I purchased from Amazon which looked exactly the same, but did not work. These worked. Not sure what other review that hard long review about about tough install....it's only 4 wires (22 gauge, i.e. small) that you simply cut, place in supplied compression couplers, and squeeze with pliers. It's as easy as it could be. The only thing you need to do is make sure black goes to black, and white (or +) goes to white (or +) ... show more

Great value for the money. I was looking at a similar product at Home Depot / Lowes for about 2x the money at a minimum - but ordered these and 5 minutes later, my garage door is back in business. Exact replica of my Chamberlain sensors. Wire could have been a little longer but I had plenty of slack on mine to start with, others may not be so lucky. ... show more
