I've bought about 10 or 12 bags of this sand. Its amazing I just wish the price could drop a bit. No dust from the sand. Our coop looks amazing. And its caused NO impaction issues with our 22 chicks. Perfect for both my chickens and my little chicks! It is beautiful sand that is the perfect size to clean but not pack together and kill your chicks. Great grain size, aesthetically appealing, and easy to clean with poop scoopers. For chick poop, you need a medium sized iguana sand poop scoop since cat scoop holes are too big for their little poops. I got a multi size pack and I use the medium size for the chicks and the large size for the big hens and the smallest size to sift out the dust from any food that mixes into the sand and breaks down in the chick pen. Makes cleaning the coop an absolute breeze, keeps their feet clean, and there’s hardly any smell in my coop. It’s a bit of an investment up front to buy all the sand, but it is so cheap and easy to maintain. Much less work than replacing soiled bedding all the time and smells so much better and is much cleaner than using the deep litter method. ... show more

We absolutely love the quality of this chicken sand. It looks great and helps keep our run clean. It’s easy to spread and is safe for our chickens. The only complaint I have is the cost. We want to purchase more however it’s pretty costly for us and really need more than we can purchase at a time.

Purchased this out of desperation due to inability to find sand locally. I will say the price point is quite a bit steeper than I would recommend for what the product is. I will say that it is very well washed and zero dust. The granulars are fairly consistent and a perfect size for a chicken coop poop shelf. I used two bags on my 9 foot by 30 in shelf and it made a decent layer. Foot by 30 in shelf and it made a decent layer. I use a small litter scooper and simply scoop out the poop once a week and shake the sand back into place. Definitely a great product but due to the price I don't feel it's sustainable. ... show more

I am so happy about this sand that I can’t stop singing its praises! I have had sand in my run since the beginning, using builders/concrete sand. It was ok but very dusty and I was just never that happy with it. Little to no dust. And I mean it. When I was pouring the bags out: no dust. When I am scooping the run: no dust. When the chickens are scratching around: no dust. The grains are smooth and uniform, which is gentle on your flocks' feet. No rough edges to tear up those toes and cause bumblefoot. So easy to clean. It almost clumps up on the more wet droppings, making them really easy to scoop. The uniform grain size also means the sand sifts easily through the scoop, leaving only the poops in the scoop to remove. Doesn't soak up any smells or get soggy. Will not grow any bacteria or mold. Drains super well so your coop and run aren't a muddy, waterlogged mess when it rains. The bags do have the ubiquitous California Prop 65 "we're all gonna die!" warnings, yep. The reason? Rocks contain silica. Silica DUST can be a carcinogen if you are breathing it in day in and day out. But this is not a dusty product, and my guess is the company wanted to be able to sell to people in California, so that's the only reason why the warning is there. It doesn't worry me, and it really shouldn't worry you. When I saw this new sand was available, I knew I had to try it and I am so glad I did. It was not available locally when I decided to try it, so yeah I paid a premium for shipping. It is now available locally in many states at many farm stores without the shipping added into the price, making it much more affordable. This sand is definitely worth the price if only for ease of cleaning, and did I mention seriously almost no dust? So worth it. ... show more

Product claims 3 cubic feet per bag. I purchased 16 bags and measured them they came out to be 1 cubic foot per bag. Sand is really good quality for chickens. No dust. Chickens won't get bumble foot on it. Every thing about the sand is perfect. But it is 2 or 3 times the price of other sand and does lie about how much sand you will need. ... show more
