  • Makes Good Coffee
The photos and the dimensions provided in the listing are accurate. My wife and I use K-pods to make coffee in the morning. Our current brewer only holds enough water to make one cup of coffee. It works very well but adding water for each cup is a pain. I got this coffee pot to resolve that problem. The Good: 1. Makes good coffee (for our taste) 2. Comes with attachments that allow you to make tea or coffee although we don't drink tea so we didn't test how well it makes tea. 3. It comes with 4 reusable K-pods that allow you to use your own ground coffee or make tea with loose tea. 4. It comes with 1 coffee adapter that allows you to use your own ground coffee to make a larger cup of coffee. The largest amount of water that it will dispense is 14 ounces. 5. Has a self cleaning and descaling feature that alerts you after 300 brewing cycles. 6. If you read the manual, which is pretty well done, the controls are easy to understand. The only buttons on the front of the machine that are intended to be used are the On/Off, the brew size, brew, and clean. Fill the machine with water, turn on, use the brew size button to cycle between the available water dispensing options (6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 ounces), then hit brew. There are leds that identify which brew size has been selected. 7. Makes hot coffee. I measured the temperature of the dispensed water and got 182F. The Not So Good: 1. The buttons that control the unit (On/Off), brew size, brew, and clean are touchy. It takes some practice to figure out what input they like. A lighter touch works best 2. I measured the amount of water dispensed without any coffee in the machine to absorb any of it. When I selected 6 ounces I got 7.5. When I selected 8 ounces I got 9.5 and similarly when I selected 10 ounces I got 11.5. Maybe this is to compensate for the amount of water that the grounds retain. 3. With a machine like this there is no way to adjust the strength of the brewed coffee if using k-pods. The 6 ounce option works okay for us. The 8 ounce option was weak. In a single serve machine you can vary the amount of water that is used. Here, both the amount of coffee and the amount of water is essentially fixed. If you are using you own coffee grounds and the reusable pods this is not an issue. Things not tested - Since we haven't got 300 brewing cycles on this new machine we haven't tested how well the cleaning and descaling function works. ... show more

  • Great personal coffee maker! Works well, and doesn't take up space.
Short version: yes, I definitely recommend this personal coffee maker. It works quite well, both with ground coffee (or tea) and K-Cup style pods. For an inexpensive one-at-a-time coffee maker, I was surprised at the simplicity of operation and the quality of the result. After unboxing and cleaning all components (as directed), the first attempt using ground coffee was simple and quick. Note, although you can select sizes from 6-14 oz, you will need to adjust the amount of grounds in the "ground coffee adapter" to match the selected cup size, and produce your preferred strength. For K-Cup pods, it is both simple and flexible, with the wide range of cup sizes. The pod machine that this replaced was vastly inferior, so this was a pleasant surprise. Its form factor (narrow and short) fits easily on the counter, and looks ready to prepare the next coffee/tea/or pod drink. Yes, I recommend this personal coffee maker, and already use it daily. ... show more

  • I love the accessories, but the brew isn't quite there
This coffee maker is compact and comes with some handy accessories. Four coffee/tea baskets you can fill with your own grounds/leaves, a larger coffee and tea container (great for loose leaf and brewing more than one cup), and a kcup adapter. The manual recommends flushing the system several times by running a brew cycle before you use it to make a drink, and I will STRONGLY second that recommendation. The first few times there was a distinctive eggy sulfur smell emitting from the machine. I'm not sure if the water would have been flavored like that, but the last thing I want with my coffee is an egg flavored brew. I flushed it repeatedly, more often than I probably needed to, just to be sure the foul smell was gone. It did clear up quickly, but don't skip that step! The water temperature is low (185) compared to what I typically use for my french press (205). This makes it convenient for hot chocolate and tea, but less ideal for this coffee lover. Testing them side by side, I found this machine brew to be weaker and less flavorful both with my own coffee and with kcups. It's impossible to talk about this unit without making the obvious comparison against a well-known brand. I wish this model included brew strength as an option, and that the buttons were more responsive. You really do have to press exactly as hard as needed and not a bit harder in order to make them work. Worse, the manual indicates that you're not supposed to leave the unit plugged in all the time, and unplugging it unfortunately clears the brew size choice, meaning I have to fiddle with it every single time. Overall it's just ok. I'd personally wait until a comparable name brand model was on sale since this does not quite meet the same standard in spite of the price being very close. ... show more
